Ena agreed to come back in a couple of days to see a scan specialist. Regin told her to bring Blane. She knew Regin was right, he had a right to see his children. Two. One scared the hell out of her. Two? She didn’t have words to express that. She looked out the window realising they had stopped. There were cars in front and behind them. It was usual to have traffic at this time of day. She buzzed the front of the car. “Problem?” Both her security were in the front. It was mid-afternoon, her men were human. “Don’t know yet. We have two cars behind us and this one in front is not moving.” “Go around?” The driver shook his head, “not possible.” Ena had a feeling there was something wrong here. “Call for back up. I don’t recognise this road as part of our route today.” The passenger answered her. “No its not we were diverted.” Now Ena really didn’t think this was right. “That was convenient. Weapons check. This car can take a tank shell so no one goes outside.” Ena checked her own weapons then pulled down the concealed weapons hold in her section of the car. It held four automatic rifles and ammo. She tapped on the window between the front and back of the sedan. It slid down. Ena passed the guns to her security. “Well time for introductions boys, I’m Ena. Nice to meet you. If this is a hit. Kill the fucking lot of them. Got it.” “James and Rylie. Yes mam.”
“See any movement in that front car?” “No nothing I think it’s a road blocker.” “We have movement coming out from the two cars behind us.” Ena turned to see four men get out of both cars. Military. Ok this was a hit. The glass was the most vulnerable target, enough impact and it will give. Then all bets were off. “When I tell you open my window, I have some thing for them. When I let loose, I’m then going to fire into that car in front, you crash through it get us passed that car. Got it?” Ena picked up the rocket launcher. It was a neat and tidy weapon with a very heavy payload. It could fire six shells before the cartage had to be replaced. It looked a bit like a mobster’s gun. Only on a bigger scale. Ena pulled down the pillion seat on the back of the front passengers seat so she was facing what was coming at her. “Window.” She shouted. As it started to slide down she positioned the launcher at the first car behind them, leaned out quickly and fired. She was back in with the window rising and the car moving by the time, the bad guys opened fire and the explosion hit their car. Her vehicle moved side on and now she was facing the back of the car in front from her window. As the window slid down again. Gun fire was hitting their car on the opposite side. She took up the launcher and directed it towards the car in front of her and fired.
Ena watched the car blow up and then blow again. “Hit it.” She told her driver throwing herself back into her seat and clicking the seat belt in place. “Get us out of here.” Her car leaped forward and charged the burning vehicle. “Corner left ram it.” Her car moved expertly forward, hit the burning wreak and spun it out the way as they pushed on through and out the other side. “Get in main traffic now.” She told James her driver. “Where’s back up?” She asked and Rylie answered. “Still ten out.” He told her holding on as they sped down the road and around a corner. “We have incoming.” James called out. Ena looked behind her. There was one car now on their tail. She must have got a good shot at the first one. She smiled. “Tell um we’re going towards the warehouse, if we can get there we can take um” Ena heard Rylie relay the information. “Warehouse now. Tell um we’re coming in hot.”
The car was eating up the distance. They were close to the warehouse. Ena knew this area very well. She’d been her most days over the last six weeks. The car behind was closing the distance. Ena could see the gates up ahead. They were open. “Right in the gates boys.” The car roared through and skidded to a stop in front of the building. The car pursuing came at them through the gates. The gates closed behind them and all hell broke loose. Men came out of every possible space and fired on the pursuing car. Ena got out the sedan on the opposite side to the car under fire. Her security joined her. She walked to the front and watched the take down. It was quick and efficient. One of the Elite team leaders she recognised come jogging over. “You ok mam?” “Yes George we’re good. There are a couple of other vehicles and some more men out there to be picked up and I expect our vamp friends are going to want a chat with these guys.” “Yes mam.” He walked back the way he’d came. Ena strode into the building with her security following her through the double skinned entry that kept out all the sun. Artificial light and UV protection kept it light and airy. Gia and Charlee met her. “You know, how is it you get all the fun?” Gia asked her leaning into her and hugging her. Ena shrugged. “Don’t know, kinda have that face I guess.” She told them stepping back and circling her face. They all grinned at each other. “Find out what they know. If their killers, kill um.” She had no problem taking out the trash. They had wanted her and her baby. Ena wanted names of people to put down and she would have them.
Ena checked in with her shop. She was concerned that this was not an isolated incident. If they were following her then they would know everything in her life. She made sure her girls had security.
Blane woke knowing two things. Ena was not in the house and there was a problem. He reached over for his phone and read the messages from Gia. He moved at vamp speed and was out of the house and in his car within minutes headed to Ena and the warehouse. He wanted answers. In the car he checked his phone again. Nothing from Ena. He knew she was safe but it would have been nice to hear it from her. He seethed. That woman still needed a reminder. Didn’t she know he’d be worried. Course she did. And knew that Gia or Charlee would have told him. He would have to remind her that her chain of command started with him.
Blane’s car entered the warehouse’s car entrance for vamps. As it pulled to a stop he got out and heard screaming. He moved towards the noise. There were several Elite groups going through training trying to ignore the noise. Blane gave them points for doing so. It was clear they were going to need sound proofing in parts of this place. He’d put it on his list of things to do. He walked on to the back and found Gia and Charlee coming towards him. “Those coming from the attackers?” Gia nodded at him. “Yep.” “Whose interrogating?” Gia grimaced. “It was me, but I was called out and told I was being too polite to the humans.” “So who’s doing it now?” he asked her. Gia looked away uncomfortable. “Who’s doing it now.” He asked again. “Ena and two of her boys from the black op days.” “Fuck.” Blane went to push passed them. Gia put out her hand. “You need to see her work Blane.” He stopped. “Why?” “She is way beyond what we could do. She’s a master at this.”
Blane approached the office window. Four chairs were sat in the middle of the room. A man was tied to each. Blane had difficulty in believing that humans had done this damage. They were a mess. Their faces bloody and bruised, their bodies bloody and torn up. Showing heavy damage. Their clothing gone. They sat naked bleeding out from several wounds. From this angle he could see several fingers they were broken or dislocated. An arm looked broken on one and a foot on the other. They were also wet and breathing heavily. Ena and two of her people were chatting in the corner of the room. An alarm went off. Ena reached out and turned it off. She turned and walked back to the four chairs with her men. “Breaks over. Got anything to say?” She asked them. “Their heart rates just rocketed.” Gia turned to look at him, “she scares them.” Then turned back to look into the room. Ena was talking again. “We,” she indicated all the people in the room, “know exactly how this goes. We hack away at you. Break a few things. Give you repeatedly more pain than you can cope with. We cut, punch, kick, dissect, burn, drown and anything else we can think of. Give you time to think about what has happened and think about what’s coming. We give you a chance to talk and it starts again. Or not. Up to you but we don’t stop till we get what we need. But and you better listen up boys, this is a whole new world folks and this is new, so pay attention. If I think, you are pushing for death deliberately without giving me what I need,” Ena thumbed over her shoulder, “I’m gonna get one of my vamp
friends out there to drain you dry and bring you back. A newbie vamp, is ravenous, so when starved, is becomes uncontrollable. We’ll pack you up and send you home. You won’t care if it’s your mother, father, brother, sister, child, aunt or cousin. You will kill every one of them, rip them apart for what you need and you will drain them dry to feed.”
Blane could feel the tension in the room sky rocket. The tied men were sweating. Heavily. “Still no talking. Do you not care about your families? No. Ok then.” Ena clapped and rubbed her hands together as if in glee. Blane watched Ena walk over to a table and pick up a knife and turned it in her hands. “You know it’s a good thing we have two eyes.” One of the men in the chairs started mumbling. Ena looked across to her two men ignoring the male. “Who goes first?” She asked. Both her men walked over to one in the middle and grabbed his head. He struggled and fought and cried out but they held him. Ena approached, “now now, I’d rather not take off half your face but if the knife slips because your being …… difficult, well I can’t be held accountable for that now can I? Left or Right? Which will it be?” the man they were holding didn’t answer. Ena walked towards him. “You won’t, you’re a mother.” The man cried out. Ena stopped and straightened.
Blane saw her go ice cold. He felt the change in her in their bond. “O I’m sorry, was I meant to break apart there and cry or something? Your right I am going to be a mother and you fucked with the wrong woman.” Ena moved in and dug the knife into his eye socket. The male screamed. Ena kept cutting while her men struggled to hold the male. She pulled the ball out and cut off the optical tendon holding it and stepped back. Blane knew the others could see her clearly now. She held up the eye and looked at it. “This bit is always a little creepy. Don’t you think?” She held up the eyeball and smiled. “Who’s next?” The men started talking.
Gia entered the interrogation room and Ena walked out. “Compulsion?” Blane asked her. “No good. Trained against it. Had to be what they knew.” Ena was wiping her hands. “You are scarily good at that.” He told her. Ena shrugged. “It was part of the job.” Blane had a sick feeling. The mother of his child was more blood thirsty than he was and she was human. “Do you enjoy it?” He asked her not sure what to think. Ena looked up at him. “The day I do, I’ll have something to really worry about.” He watched her walk to the bathroom and close the door behind her. He hoped to god she was never a vamp. She’d be unstoppable.
Ena sat down in the toilet stall. It never got easier. She thought she’d left that all behind and here it is once again apart of her life. She hated it. Hated what it made her. But she was good at it. Those men didn’t stand a chance. She just had to push the right buttons and once you found them, pick one to prod. She finished up and washed up. Blane was still standing where they had talked. She walked over to him. “You done here?” He asked her. Ena nodded. “I’d like to go home.” He stared at her for a moment and gave a nod. “The boys will take you home. Extra security ok.” She nodded and walked towards the cars. She felt tired. The car door was opened for her and she got in putting her head on the back of the seat and closing her eyes. Someone got in after her. Ena really didn’t care who. She was done.
Blane got the information they needed from Gia. The soldiers were taken care of but held in case they had lied. They’d been paid a lot for the job. They were to kidnap and detain. Exchange was to be tonight at midnight. They now had the address and Blane and his Elite would be calling. Gia would play Ena. There would be a reckoning.
It was dark by the time Ena got home. Security had passed them through and the car had driven into the garage before closing. Charlee got out the back seat first and held it open for her. Ena thanked him and walked over to the security pad and opened the house. “I’m going to take a shower and go to bed ok.” She called out over her shoulder, not waiting for an answer she walked down the hallway and climbed the stairs. She needed that shower.
They had quietly surrounded the meeting place. They’d chosen a park. The only predators there where them. They’d arrived early and got into position. All the exits were covered. At five minutes to the hour a car appeared and parked. No lights. Then Blanes car arrived with Gia as bait. She was a similar build to Ena and had a wig on. A padded stomach gave the impression of being pregnant. The people on both sides had never met. Ena’s own forces Elite took point. Dressed in combat black from head to toe. The black ops leader on her side exited the car and waited. They couldn’t be vamps they would smell them. It was bad enough that Blane and his team had to be a way off, the breeze moving in the opposite direction giving them an advantage and Gia was covered in Ena’s clothing and a blanket. They hoped the vamp vibe coming off her would be put down to the child. One of the black ops guys on her side looked annoyed and called out. “You’re here, we’re here, job done, let’s get this moving. Have places to go, things to do.” The other car doors opened and four vamps got out. “You have the goods?” One of the vamps called out. Ops man turned around and the back door opened and another Ops guy got out and pulled out Gia who was acting very human. “You got the money? I wouldn’t recommend trying to double cross us. We have snipers in place.” The vamp put his hands up. “We only want the girl. No trouble.”
The third Op guy pulled Gia around to the front of the car and walked out in front of it towards their guests. “I can smell vamp.” One of the buyers told the others. “She’s meant to be pregnant with one of ours so I guess that’s right.” The lead guy told him. Blane thought they knew a lot about what was going on. Too much. They had a leak. They started walking towards Gia. That was the signal. Blanes team moved in. Their Ops guys handled their weapons and Gia, took off the blanket and wig. Blane rushed in and got to their car. It was just the four of them. The four vamps found themselves surrounded. “Well well. Look what we have here. Unauthorised Vampires in House Arturo territory. Doesn’t look good for you guys. O and you tried to kidnap my wife. We’ll be having a nice long chat about that. Take them away.”
Ena was sitting in the window seat of her lounge when Blane came home. He always knew where to find her. She’d woken up a little while ago and got some food and make coffee. He came into the room towards her. Bent down and kissed her head. “I thought you’d gone to bed?” She nodded, “I did but I woke a little while ago and baby needed some food.” Blane sat down beside her and reached out to touch her tummy. “Actually, that’s not true.” She told him realising that she hadn’t given him the news. Ena reached down and caressed his hand. “Regin told me today that its not one baby, its two.” “Wait, what? Two?” Ena nodded. “I’ve never heard of that. Two babies? Twins?” Ena smiled. “That’s what she said. There are strong indications that this might help others.” “Wow, Ena that’s amazing. Your amazing.” Blane leaned in and kissed her. “Thank you for this gift.” He told her. Ena shook her head, “no thank you. I never realised I wanted it until I had it.” Blane squeezed her hand. “I will never let anything harm you or our children.” He told her earnestly gazing into her eyes. Ena leaned in and placed her head on his shoulder. “Nor will I.” Blane smiled holding her tightly to him. That was his mate. His bonded. She was Athena. Goddess of War and no one fucked with her.
The end ……….. for now..

Evangeline. House Arturo.
Eve had been at the Elite training ground for most of the day. She was an intracule part of one of the human teams. The training had been hard even for someone like her. Her learning curve had been steep. Many of her preconceived ideas on humans were stripped away very quickly. These were a different kind of human. They fought. They waged war. They won. Seeing them at their best during the take down of the kidnap attempt on Ena had reinforced her respect for those around her. Her curiosity when Gia had walked out of the interrogation of the failed kidnappers and seeing Ena walk in had been surprising. So had the screaming that had started soon after. Ena could cause as much damage as the best vamp and she was another human, well kind of. Eve had learnt much from Ena a
nd her black ops people. There were many ways to get something done. If you were willing to go there. As a day walker. Eve was used to being the deadliest thing in the room. That was no longer particularly true. She was one of many deadly people here. A dhampir. Young in vamp terms with the power of a master. She could move faster, strike harder, kill more effectively than anyone she knew and she’d had to kill a lot of vamps in the protection of her family. They were a mystery to Vamp society. There were very few of them. Dhampir’s were an unknown quantity to the world and given a wide birth. Few were willing to take them on for good reason. The vamp nation cried out for progeny but few were born. She and her sister were an exception. Much coveted by many for the answers they needed. No one knew why her conception had been successful or her sisters. It was very rare indeed. Her father had been a blood thirsty monster for hundreds of years. Vile and murderous. Her mother had been dedicated to god in a time of ravished lands. Their meeting changed them both. It was no wonder then, that she, the ultimate vampire, was the combination of both. Beautiful and very very deadly ……
