“You have to be shitting me?” Frankie says, dropping it on the table.
“What? Something expensive? I’ll get it for her,” Jax says, picking up the letter. He’s sure got a soft spot for that kid. He reads the letter and drops it as though it’s on fire.
His gaze falls to Frankie, and she cocks her jaw and nods.
“What’s so bad?” My mom picks it up and reads it. “Ah, this is so cute.” We all step forward as my mom reads to us, “‘I want Jax to be my daddy and if he can’t be my daddy, I want a puppy.’”
Jax walks away without saying a word, silently tucking his container under his station.
“That’s so sweet.” My mom looks at Frankie.
Frankie feigns a smile, but we all know, between Jax’s need to make sure Jolie has a father figure in her life and also to be her fairy godfather—making every wish come true with the flick of his tattoo gun—Frankie and Jax might just go head-to-head this holiday season.

Cockamamie Unicorn Ramblings
Do you think we’ll ever learn not to write ourselves into a corner? We hope not because most times we get such better storylines figuring our way out. We’re sure some of you are surprised it wasn’t Leilani that Knox ended up with. And I’m sure your question is why did you tease their relationship through three books then?
Well, truth is, it was supposed to be Knox and Leilani. We wanted to tease that second chance relationship by allowing you to see them together first. But once we got down to truly plotting out their entire story which we do right before we write, it was clear there was no conflict. If Knox loved her, there was no reason if Leilani returned for a second chance that they wouldn’t just get back together. Plus, and maybe this was us, Leilani didn’t come off too well the few times she was on the page. Quite simply, we didn’t want to put him and Leilani together. She just wasn’t the one for him.
So, we decided Knox needed a new woman. Someone he should’ve picked from the get-go. Someone who complimented his desire for a real relationship. We almost made Kamea Leilani’s sister but thought that’s just against sister code and couldn’t do it. So, she’s just her friend, but not close enough that it mattered. Anyway, we hope you enjoyed the twist that Knox’s love life took with the introduction of Kamea.
Fun fact: There is a spy bar that was taken as inspiration for the one in this book in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Look it up and give it a try.
