“Well isn’t that just wonderful,” she said, taking up her seat and sipping her coffee.
The same thoughts as before swirled in her mind again.
“Cedric, I need to speak to you about something…” she said.
“Yes, of course, anything,” he replied, taking a bite of his toast.
“I know we haven’t known each other long and I don’t know why I feel this way after only one day together, but I don’t think I can let you walk out that door without me saying it,” Marianne started, “You’re a vampire and I’m a human girl. You know more about the world than I could ever learn and that means you probably know more about feelings and emotions too. I’m just a simpleton when it comes to these kinds of things but my heart is saying one thing and my mind can’t comprehend how to reason with it.”
Cedric sat quietly, listening to Marianne speak. She felt nervous, knowing that with many other people on this planet, she would sound crazy with what she was saying. It was one night, they didn’t even know each other more than a day now and most of that was sleeping after a night of pleasure. It didn’t make sense to her so she was hoping that it would make some kind of sense to him.
“What are you trying to say?” Cedric asked.
“That’s the problem, I don’t know what I’m trying to say. I want to say a lot of things and I want to say nothing at all. I want to sit in your arms all day and I want to go out and see the world. I feel like we’ve known each other for years and I know that I want to you in my life for years still. I just don’t want you to think I’m crazy.”
“I don’t think and never will think that of you,” Cedric took Marianne’s hand in hers and she squeezed tightly.
“You haven’t heard it all yet though, so you wouldn’t be able to say that yet,” she replied.
“I know what you’re going to say, so just say it,” he insisted.
“Well, damn, Cedric King. I know it’s only been one night and this isn’t really something you can know in such a short time but I think I’m in love with you,” she blurted the words out and a sigh of relief washed over her. The fogginess in her mind went away with her realizing that it’s probably true and she felt comfortable in that moment. All apart from the niggling feeling deep inside that he may think her crazy now.
“I fell in love with you from the first second we spoke,” Cedric replied. Marianne couldn’t hold it back, the tears that welled in her eyes were now freely pouring down her cheeks. Cedric leaned in and gave her a kiss and she threw herself into it wholeheartedly.
Marianne knew, in that moment, that she was going to have a life well-lived with him. That she was going to be happy with Cedric at her side. He was the perfect man for her and she was the perfect woman for him.
