“Sure, sounds good,” she smiled at Beverly earnestly.
Chapter 3
Samantha Cox
“What do you mean he is coming after me?” Samantha said into the phone as she spoke to Diane.
“Yes, I have a feeling that he bribed some of the guys at the agency so that they would give him the details of your whereabouts. He passed by here threatening me and telling me that if he didn’t find you I would regret it,” Diane said. “Alex was furious. I really wonder how you ever got involved with such a man, that guy is a psycho.”
“I don’t think that he will find me. This place is hidden away from the world,” Samantha said.
She had been at the ranch for two days already and she was actually enjoying her stay, although she hadn’t yet met Wes since he wasn’t back.
“I think that you should tell the cops that the asshole actually dared to threaten you, for your own sake,” Samantha was troubled at how her issues were affecting her best friend.
“Hahaha, are you kidding me. Fred wouldn’t even think twice about turning the guy into mincemeat,” Diane said, referring to her husband. “And besides, I think that I can handle that guy myself.”
“Oh yeah, I had forgotten just how big you are,” Samantha laughed. “I don’t think Alex would be a match for you. Anyway, I don’t think that he’ll find me here.”
“So, when do I get to visit you?” Diane asked.
“As soon as I'm completely settled in I’ll make sure to invite you. I’m sure that you’d love it here and you'll soon be trying to convince Fred to buy you a ranch in these parts,” Samantha said. “Anyway, I want to ride off to the ranch to meet Beverly. Maybe I can call you later?”
“Sure thing, Sam, just take care of yourself, and if Alex actually finds you, just let me know and I'll put the jerk where he belongs. I love you.”
Samantha stood there thinking of her best friend. It had only been a couple of days but she already missed her.
“Miss Samantha, your horse is ready for you,” Jeffrey called into her bedroom as she grabbed the Stetson that Beverly had given her. “I think Ms. Beverly is waiting for you where the cattle are being loaded onto the cattle cars.”
“Thanks, Jeffrey,” she said, heading out of the bedroom.
It felt odd having a butler attending to her needs as this was something that she had never been used to. She was going to have quite an experience getting used to all this luxury and opulence. She got along very well with Wes' sexy looking sister, Beverly, and Beverly was intent on spoiling her with designer clothes and perfumes. Samantha realized that people around the ranch actually feared Beverly because she was one tough woman, but Samantha knew that deep within she was one of the best people that she had ever met. Behind all that hardness was a woman who cared for others more than herself. She was loving, kind and very down to earth. It was hard to find such a billionaire woman riding a horse instead of sitting in in a chauffeur driven limo.
As she got onto the horse, she noticed that the pistol that Beverly had given her was in the saddle bag. Samantha didn’t even know how to use a gun and saw no use to it. Beverly, however, insisted that every woman needed a little insurance to ensure her safety, and had insisted that she takes it with her everywhere she went when she wasn’t in the house. Samantha saw that the butler and ranch hands had followed Beverly’s instructions to boot. She trotted to the main road so that she could head to the trail that led to cattle trails on the far end of the ranch. There was a car parked some distance away from the main gate, but Samantha thought nothing of it as she galloped away.
She had been going for almost ten minutes when she heard a car behind her. Without bothering to look at the car, she let the stallion walk on the very edge of the road. The car approached slowly from behind and then suddenly overtook her and braked right in front of her. Samanth’s horse almost collided with it.
“What the hell is wrong with this one?” she cursed under her breath as the horse swerved to avoid the accident.
The door of the sedan opened and she almost dropped off the horse when she realized that it was Alex, looking drunk as usual.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Alex? I never wanna see your face again!” she fumed at him without getting off the horse.
“Did you think that it would be so easy to get rid of me?” he slurred as he held onto the car to get his balance. “You might have fled, but you're still mine.”
“I'm sorry but I moved on. You had no respect for me as a woman and that is one of the reasons that the farce of a marriage came to an end,” Samantha felt all of the anger bubbling to the surface.
“Stop bitching around and get into the car. You and I are going back home,” he said as he started staggering toward the horse.
“Don’t come any closer, Alex—”
“Hahaha, look who’s talking. What are you gonna do, huh?” he interrupted her as he got closer to the horse.
She felt the same fear that she had felt every time that he had abused her, but she knew that was not the way she was supposed to feel. “I'm warning you, Alex, one step closer and you're going to regret it.”
Her eyes moved from Alex to the gun in the saddlebag and although she had never used a gun before in her life, she was sure that she wouldn’t hesitate to use it on Alex.
“You whore, bring your fucking body here,” he shouted just as she reached into the saddlebag and pulled out the gun, cocking it the way that Beverly had shown her and pointing it at Alex.
“Like I said, one more step and you're dead.! I'm not going to repeat myself again!” she said, holding the gun as steadily as she could.
“Samantha, it’s me. How can you point a gun at me, and who gave you a gun anyway?” he stopped in his tracks, seeming to sober up as he stared at the gun.
“It doesn’t matter where I got it. The truth of the matter is that I won't hesitate to pull the trigger if you move a step closer,” she held the gun steady as she swung her leg over the back of the stallion and got off the horse. “Get into your car and go back to Colorado and never to look for me again.”
“Sam, are you serious?”
She shot onto the ground right before him, the sound of the blast startling her just as much as it did Alex as he staggered backward toward the car.
“Sam, did you just shoot at me?” his eyes were wide with bewilderment.
“And I won't hesitate to do it again if you don’t get the fuck out of here!” she said, cocking the gun again, just as she heard horses riding in their direction.
She turned to look and at the front of the group was Beverly, who quickly pulled a shotgun out of her saddle and pointed it at Alex as did the ranch hands.
“Do we have a problem here, Sam?” she asked, moving in front of Samantha protectively without moving the target of the gun from Alex.
“I think you should ask him.” Samantha was more than relieved, breathing out a sigh of relief as her gun dropped to the ground. She even realized that goose bumps had formed on the surface of her skin because of the nervousness that she felt.
“This woman who shot at me is my wife and I'm here to take her back home,” he said, pointing a finger at Samantha.
“Last I heard, she had fled and she doesn't have to live with you, and I suggest that you get off this ranch before somebody dies,” Beverly said as she got off her horse.
At that point, Samantha was more proud of Beverly than she had ever been of anyone. She had stood up for her and had no plans of budging. The ranch hands also followed suit, getting off their horses with their guns drawn and pointing at Alex. He looked defeated as his face sunk, creases suddenly making him look like an old man, the effects of too much drink.
“Yes, show us some proof that I'm your wife,” Samantha gathered her courage. “And I'd also like you to explain to all of these people here where these marks came from. What kind of man lays his hands on a woman?”
Samantha lifted her hair off the sides of her face to show everyone the marks o
n her face and she saw the anger on Beverly's face.
“Is this the asshole who gave you those marks?” she turned to Alex, walking over to him and slapping him across the face with the butt of the shotgun as he sprawled against the sedan. “And he has the guts to bring himself here?”
Beverly cocked the shotgun and pointed it at Alex.
“Ma'am, he isn’t worth it, just let it go. He would rather rot in jail other than you rotting in jail for killing him,” Mark, the foreman said to her, taking the gun away from her and tossing it at one of the other ranch hands.
“You're right, Mark, but some people shouldn’t even be walking freely,” Beverly said. “Sam, I think that we should take this guy to court for abuse.”
“That is something that I would have done a long time ago, but I didn’t have the money to chase after the case,” Samantha replied.
“Well then, consider it done,” Beverly said, and then turning to Alex, “If you know who I am, know that I'm gonna use all of my resources to make sure that you rot in hell.”
Chapter 4
Beverly Twain
“Whoa, that is quite a tale, almost like a story out of a novel,” Beverly said after listening to Samantha recounting her experiences to her and her attorney. “I wonder how you even tolerated that guy for so long.”
“I think that we have a pretty strong case here based on the facts that you’ve given us. We will need your friend Diane, and your former neighbors, to testify in court,” the attorney said as he shut his folder and placed it in his briefcase. “I don’t think that he will be bothering anyone any time soon.”
“I guess that we have that issue under control and so Samantha and I had better get going,” Beverly said.
“Yes, I’ll give you guys a call in case of anything,” the lawyer said as they all stood up.
They were in town at a hotel that was owned by Beverly. It actually felt good being in town and she intended to pick up some personal effects before they headed back to the ranch. She took the issue of abuse against women by men very personal, and especially due to the fact that she actually liked Samantha a lot. They had a lot in common, both of them being fighters that were struggling to make it in a world where men had the ultimate say. Beverly was glad that Samantha had actually moved to the ranch with them because she felt as if she could protect her from other predators like her ex.
“How about we do some shopping, have a drink at the local bar, and then head back to the ranch?” Beverly said to Samantha as they strode out of the hotel and began walking down the street.
“That sounds perfect. I would love to walk around Austin and get to feel the town and its people. Everyone seems pretty friendly here,” Samantha agreed with her.
They spend the rest of the afternoon shopping. Beverly handed Samantha a credit card that she could use for her own shopping, but Samantha clearly had no intentions of using it and so she picked up things for Samantha herself. For some reason, Beverly felt some sort of attachment to Samantha, something that she couldn’t explain. Maybe it was due to the fact that they were both women, and they were both struggling to survive in a world where men wanted to control everything.
“Well, that was a day well spent aside from the drama earlier in the day,” Beverly said as they finally sat in a bar with cocktails before them.
“I don’t know how I'll ever be able to thank you for everything—”
“Hey, hush, you're a woman like me and I like you. That’s all that matters,” Beverly said, studying Samantha closely for the first time and realizing just how vulnerable she was.
She was actually a very sexy woman if you looked at her closely, but Samantha tended to hide her beauty behind her hair.
“You know what, we need to work on your looks. I've just realized that you hide your beauty a lot,” Beverly said as she reached across the table and touched Samantha's blonde locks. “Tomorrow, we’ll call in the beautician to work on your look at the ranch. When you're with me, I'm gonna make sure that you look like a queen.”
The words seemed to brighten Samantha up as her blue eyes widened. She looked like a little girl who was excited about getting something new, and she reminded Beverly a lot about herself when she had been younger. As the afternoon wore on, Beverly discovered that Samantha was actually a very intelligent woman and that it was just fate that had gotten her stuck where she was.
By the time that it was getting dark, the drinks started going to their heads. Beverly found herself slurring a lot while Samantha looked a little more composed. Samantha was wearing a low cut top that showed off her cleavage, and for some reason, Beverly found herself staring there constantly.
“You know,” Beverly said to Samantha as they finally staggered out of the bar to the truck that was parked outside, “many women would die to have breasts as filled up and firm as yours.”
“Stop pulling my leg, Bev, you're the beauty here. I mean, everything about you is sexy. As a matter of fact, why aren’t you married yet? Are the men around you so blind not to realize the gem that they have within their midst?” Samantha laughed infectiously.
“Men, that is a very sensitive subject that makes me sick sometimes because I've never really understood them,” Beverly found herself opening up to Samantha in ways that she had never opened up to anyone else before. “I guess that’s the reason why I'm still single. You wanna know what the saddest thing is? It’s the fact that I'm not sure if I'll ever get there!”
“Hey, relax, it isn’t as bad as it seems, and besides, after what I've been through I would rather take my time before committing to any sort of relationship,” Samantha said, placing her hand on Beverly's hand on the gear.
Beverly felt precious for a moment there as emotions soared through her, probably partly due to the alcohol. Samantha made no move to remove her hand from Beverly's, instead starting to massage it with her fingers and sending a funny feeling through Beverly. Beverly had never been touched this way by another way, or rather, not that she had ever noticed until now. She turned to look at Samantha and realized that Samantha's eyes looked like they had dilated as she also looked at her.
It was slightly dark in the truck as their heads began moving slowly together, almost as if they were drawn by some unknown force. Their faces were barely inches from each other and Beverly realized the way that Samantha's scent was going to her head and making her feel dizzy with desire. As their lips touched in a light kiss, Beverly felt a zing going all the way to her most sensitive spot in between her thighs. She felt herself starting to cream up as a surge of arousal passed through her body.
Their kiss became even more intense as their tongues started erotically dancing together in their mouths. Beverly had never imagined that another woman would ever make her feel this way, but she didn’t want to stop. Without thinking twice, Beverly's hand reached over to Samantha's breasts, massaging one of the boobs. The breast was firm and huge, and it felt good in Beverly's hand as she flipped her fingers over the nipple. The nipple pebbled in the bra, the effect making Beverly even more aroused.
“Bev, what are we doing?” Samantha said, tearing her lips away from Beverly's to Beverly's disappointment. “I think we should get home.”
Samantha looked flushed, almost as if she also couldn’t believe how her body was feeling. Her breathing was heavy, something that was visible from the way that her breasts were moving up and down on her chest.
Beverly had to force herself to look away from Samantha. “I'm sorry about that. I'm not really sure what came over me, Sam.”
“There’s nothing to be sorry about, Bev, we both did it. Let’s get home and then we can talk about it when we get there,” Samantha said, squeezing Beverly's hand one last time before reaching for her seatbelt and strapping it on as Beverly did the same.
Chapter 5
Samantha Cox
Samantha tried to understand what was happening to her body but she couldn’t. The drive back to the ranch was in silence as neither of them seemed to know what
to say.
“Well, here we are, safe and sound,” Beverly said as she killed the engine of the truck and opened her door. “I hope that Mark and the boys made sure that all the cattle were loaded safely.”
“Mark looks like a very dependable guy who wouldn’t mess with his job,” Samantha said as she also stepped out of the truck although the tension between them was very obvious as they headed into the ranch house.
“Hey,” Beverly said as soon as she had shut the door, prompting Samantha to turn around and look at her. “I hope I didn’t do anything to upset you back there. I really don’t know what came over me.”
They were standing close and Samantha didn’t know what came over her as she took a step closer to Beverly and pulled her into her arms, their lips seeking out each other as they began kissing hungrily like it was the end of the world. Samantha had never experienced anything like this before as she became dizzy with desire. Not even when she had initially started dating Alex had she ever felt like this when they were making out. This felt different in ways that she couldn’t explain.
Their bodies pressed tightly together, her breasts pressed against Beverly's in the most arousing way. Beverly ran her fingers through the back of Samantha's hair before moving the hand over her back and down to the crest of her butt, massaging it. Samantha felt as if she was going to melt from all the arousal she was feeling. She held her breath when she felt Beverly moving her hand off the crest of her butt and in between them, pushing her blouse up as her hand slipped into her jeans through the waist. Something was happening here and no matter how much Samantha wanted to stop it, she couldn’t because her body wanted it badly. As a matter of fact, she found herself moaning into Beverly's mouth as they continued to kiss. Beverly pushed her hand past Samantha's thong and Samantha found herself parting her thighs as Beverly's hand slipped in between her thighs.
