Epilogue
“A large stash of secret money no one can find, and now this Order is coming for the book the Ancestors took into the cemetery. Life in Coventry is a whole lot more exciting than I remember,” I said.
“Not for you,” Thorn groused. “I think you should give boring and safe a try for a while.”
“Not a chance,” I said. “You don’t really think you’re going to keep me locked away in this house for my own good, do you, Thorn Wilson? I can take care of myself.”
“I know you can,” he said with a chuckle. “Maybe you can make your own grilled cheese too.”
“Let’s not go too far,” I retorted.
We were in the kitchen. Thorn was standing at the stove melting butter in a pan to make a grilled cheese sandwich. I was sitting in a chair that I’d dragged over. I was getting fatigued more easily as my baby grew, and I found myself needing more rest and more food to sustain us. The little peanut had gone quiet during the time I was using too much magic, but when I’d stopped they’d begun to flutter regularly again. I would never admit to Thorn that he was probably right about me needing a little more boring and safe in my life..
Just a little, though. I wasn’t going to live my entire life like that. No thanks. It’s what I’d thought I wanted when I left Coventry as a teenager, but the short time I’d been back had already proven me wrong.
I was at home in Coventry, and not only that, I was at home with who I was too.
Being a witch.
In fact, I’d decided that at some point, after the baby came, I’d take my powers out for a test drive. I was finally curious about what I was truly capable of doing with my magic. After all, being who I was and not using it was a waste.
Many fences needed to be mended in Coventry. There was a lot of rot that needed to be carved away. Some things had been ignored for too long. I didn’t want to just live in Coventry. I wondered how amazing the town could be with all of us working together.
It wasn’t all curiosity, though. A small part of me, deep down inside, knew that I needed to harness my powers to protect my family and my town. A storm was brewing, and while I couldn’t see it on the horizon yet, I could feel it in my bones.
“Hey, Kinsley?” Thorn broke me out of my thoughts.
“Yeah, babe?”
“You wanted provolone, right?”
“Yep.”
“And cheddar?”
“Yes, please,” I said.
“And you said muenster too?”
I chuckled. “Yes, all three, please.”
“Oh, and Kinsley?” Thorn inquired.
“Yeah, babe?”
“Will you marry me?”
