  Chapter Two

Ireti sauntered into her room very early the next morning, her body sore from the blows and making love all night with Yomi. Her mind was numb from the agony in her body and soul. She crawled to her bed, pulled the cover up to her chin and prepared to sleep off.

“Good morning, Akintola Hall sisters.” The familiar voice rang out from the open field outside her block. It was the voice of the lady that preached around six o’clock every morning in her hostel.

“Oh God, this girl has started again this morning,” her roommate Jibike muttered and turned to the other side.

“…I have brought a message of love from the best lover in the world that any lady can ever have. It is the message of Christ’s love for you, that no matter your situation or how deep you are into sin, His grace is sufficient for you.”

Ireti pulled the cover over her head. She didn’t want to hear. The early morning cry of this girl had become an arrow piercing her heart each day, nudging her to break away and run. She desired to, but she was stuck. Yomi held her heart in his hands.

My grace is sufficient for you, Beloved. Please, turn back to me.

“…He says come unto Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. What state of hopelessness are you in? He says come and lay it all at His feet and He will give you a new hope and a fresh start. He loves you …”

Stop, stop! Don’t say anymore. Tears welled up in Ireti’s eyes.

Lord, I can’t come. I am too dirty, you have no need of me anymore. I am not worth it.

I will wash their sins and I will remember them no more. I will heal you.

“ … The Lord bless you as you make that decision in Jesus’ name.” The lady finished praying and she was gone.

Ireti sighed and closed her eyes.
