Waiting For Milo: THE WAITE FAMILY - BOOK ONE Page 14

by Devlin, Angel

I waggled my eyebrows. “Oh I don’t know. I can feel my own luck changing by the minute.”

“And Silas is a womaniser, you said?”

“Yep, different one every week. And then Ezra, well you’d have more clue than me about him from the gossip websites.”

“So you’re not close to him at all?”

“Nope. Dad’s in touch with him, and I think Silas, because Si feels as the oldest he should look out for us all, but I don’t know the last time I spoke to him.”

“Do you think all the reluctance to be in relationships comes from what happened with your mum and dad?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “Who can say? It can’t have helped, but these things might have happened anyway.”

She chewed on her bottom lip for a moment. “If you had the chance to find out what happened in the past, with your mum, I mean. Why she left and never came back. Would you take it?”

I shook my head, feeling warmth leaving my body at the very thought of facing the woman who didn’t love us enough to keep in touch. “No. I’d rather focus on the future than dwell on the past.”

“Fair enough.” Vi said, but she seemed a little distracted.

  “Penny for them.”

She took a drink of her wine. “I thought I didn’t want anything more to do with my mother, but the last few days have got me thinking. I don’t know why, but suddenly I feel like I have some questions, and I hope that by answering them, she could give me some closure on things. I’m considering going to visit her, just once, to ask my questions and tell her goodbye.”

“And what if it makes things worse instead?”

“I don’t know.” She answered. “I’m not rushing to arrange to visit her; it’s just something I’m pondering. I’ll probably end up not going.”

“Well, whatever you decide, I’ll support you. Just make sure if you need to speak to someone before you visit, or after, you have that set up. You said you saw a counsellor after what happened with Jay. Maybe arrange something like that again?”

“Yeah, good idea. I don’t know what it is about you, Milo Waite, but you just know the right things to say at the right time, and even though sometimes you say the most outrageous chauvinistic things to me, I think I’m falling for you, Miley.”

“Good, because I already know I’m madly in love with you, Violet Blake.”

She looked at me, smiling and tears caught at the rim of her lower eyelids. “Do you want a dessert?” She asked.

“Only if it’s pussy pie.” I growled.

Violet laughed so loudly the entire restaurant looked at her. “Let’s go then. I think I have that at home.”

“Can we have the bill please?” I shouted over to the waiter. “There’s an emergency at home we need to rush back for.”

“Nothing too urgent I hope.” The waiter enquired.

“Just a pipe that’s about to burst if we don’t hurry.” I didn’t tell him it was in my trousers.

  Violet

It must have been the wine because I thought I was feeling crazy in love type feelings for Milo Waite. It was definitely the wine when I blurted out I was falling for him and now I felt I needed coffee to sober me up because I was sure he’d just told me he was madly in love with me.

  With me!

  Violet Blake.

When he told me he wanted ‘pussy pie’ for dessert, the copious amounts of wine added up and connected with my brain and voice and I began what became a bout of uncontrollable laughter to the point where tears were streaming down my face.

Milo paid the bill while I made a mental note to give him half towards it later and then he rang for another taxi. I’d stopped laughing by the time I got in the back seat of the taxi and feeling all mellow and loved I snuggled up to Milo and closed my eyes.

“We’re here, Princess.” I opened my eyes to find Milo looking down at me. “Might have to change your nickname to Sleeping Beauty in a minute.”

I let him lead me out of the car and watched him pay the driver.

“Have a good night,” the taxi driver said.

“We will.” I shouted and then I waved.

“Oh, Lord. Violet Blake drunk is a sight to behold.” Milo took my key out of my hand and let us in, turning the alarm off.

“I’m not drunk, I’m just merry and happy. Now where do you want to eat your pussy pie?” I started laughing again.

“I’m having no dessert until you’ve sobered up a little, so I’m going to make us some coffee and you, Princess, can sit on the sofa and wait for my return. Put your feet up.”

The sofa seemed like the most amazing idea ever and as soon as I sat down on it, I thought about just how comfy it was. I went to shake off my shoes but could only get one off, so I got in a position with one leg on the sofa and one hung off and then I decided to rest my eyes until Milo came back from the kitchen.

The next thing I knew, light was breaking through the windows of my bedroom. Trouble was I couldn’t remember coming to bed.

I sat up, once again feeling a now familiar thump behind my forehead. “I need to stop drinking.” I complained. A body stirred at the side of me, making me jump, and I saw Milo was in bed with me.

I tried to retrace my steps from last night, but I could remember no more than lying down on the sofa, so I guessed I’d fallen asleep and Milo had brought me up to bed. I was still in my dress so it would appear Milo had had to go without dessert.

I then almost crapped my pants when an alarm on Milo’s phone went off. His hand reached out of the covers, grabbing his phone and then he turned and pressed buttons, silencing the noise. He placed his phone back on the side and then began rubbing his eyes.

“And Monday rolls around once more, only this time I’m not working for the Princess unfortunately.”

I turned over to him and snuggled up. “Thanks for putting me to bed.”

He placed his arm around me. “You’re welcome.”

“Sorry I had too much wine.”

“Don’t worry about it. It was like being on a date with three different princesses last night. I took out Rapunzel, I brought Sleeping Beauty home, and I took Cinderella to bed, because you’d only managed to get one shoe off before you passed out.”

“I’d better get up and do something with myself if I’m popping to the yard today to see your dad.” I sighed.

“What time did you arrange to meet him?”

“Eleven, so time for a few cups of coffee yet.”

“That’s good. Well, if I’m to get a coffee at all today I’d better get a move on. Can I shower here? Saves me wasting time waiting for one over at our house.”

“Sure and I’ll make you some coffee and breakfast.”

“You’re an angel. It’s the home visit tonight, right? Do they bring the dog?”

I smiled. “No, they just check the house. Then if everything is okay they arrange for me to collect Rocky.”

“Oh, all right. I don’t need to be here then.”

“Why would you need to be here?”

“I need to meet the little guy. It’s only right that we check we bond if I’m gonna be his dad.”

  My mouth dropped open.

  “His what now?”

“He’s a guy, dude’s going to need a father figure. I’ll step up. Make sure he learns how to charm the ladies.”

“My head hurts and I’m not even talking about the effects of the alcohol now. Get in the shower.” I tried to push him out towards the edge of the bed but he didn’t move a millimetre.

He looked down at me with that cocky grin. “How’s that working out for you?”

“Get out of my bed. You’re going to be late for work.”

“Hmm, maybe you could make being late worth it?” He drawled.

My stomach leapt with desire and thoughts of my head were forgotten as lust swept over me. “You’re still owed a dessert.” I whispered.

  “So I am.”

He pushed me onto my back and sat astride me. Then he peered d
own at me. “How much do you love this dress?”

“Enough I bought it in another colour.” I told him.

He undid the belt at my waist and then unbuttoned the top button of my dress and then he put a hand either side of the material and pulled. My dress ripped right open from top to bottom and I saw at least one button ping off.

“Totally bare to me. I don’t know what to do first.”

I was tempted to say, ‘Sew my fucking dress’, but I forgot as soon as he parted my legs and started licking between them.

  “Mmm pussy pie.”

If anyone but Milo spoke to me that way, I’d have cringed, but his words just were him. He was uniquely Milo and I didn’t want him to change in the slightest.

His tongue flicked, and nibbled, and licked at my core until the familiar rumbles of an approaching climax had me yell his name.

  “Milo, fuck me. Please.”

He moved up the bed. “I need to get a condom.”

“No, on my front. I’ll clean up after.”

  “It’s fine, I’ll—”

“Milo. That’s what I want you to do.” I felt terribly wanton and dirty. What did this man do to me?

He thrust inside me, again and again and again, his finger strumming my clit at the same time until I exploded over his cock and then he pulled out and tugged his length a few times until his creamy cum sprayed out over my tits and belly.

“Fuck, Princess. You look so damn hot and dirty right now.”

I basked in his admiration. Milo made me feel so wanted. So important. And so attractive.

“I know it will make you a little later still but how about we get clean together?” I winked.

“Lead the way, Princess.” Milo leant back on his feet. “I’ll just have to feign a flat tire.”

Once Milo had eventually left, I only had forty-five minutes before I was due to meet Josh at the yard. It was time to make a drink and sit on the sofa and catch my breath for a moment. Everything was happening at a pace I hadn’t anticipated. The house renovations had been done so fast I felt like I’d dreamed them. I had this man in my life I didn’t expect to have. New friends lived nearby, and tonight I would hopefully be approved for a dog. It was all lovely, but all so quick. I felt like I needed to pause to breathe.

But as I switched on my phone I realised that that wouldn’t be happening anytime soon, and I had no one to blame but myself. Elias had replied.

  Hello Violet.

My dad mentioned you a couple of times to me. Just never told me where you lived. Where anybody lived to be honest. It would be nice to meet you. How about McDonalds in the city centre tomorrow at about half-past four? If you have any family photos, I’d love to see them.

  Eli.

I swallowed. What had I done? Was this a good idea? But something about his message called to me because there seemed to be an underlying desperation. I quickly typed back.

  Hey Eli.

That sounds great. I don’t have any photos of your dad, but I have ones of your nannan. I’ll bring them and we can get a drink or something. No pressure. You can leave when you like but it would be nice to meet you. I don’t have a lot of family so it will be cool to meet my cousin.

  Violet.

This time his reply came back swiftly.

See you then, Violet. I’ll wait outside because sometimes they don’t like teenagers hanging around inside.

  Eli

  Okay.

I’ll try to be on time so you’re not kept waiting!

  Violet.

As much as I felt guilty that I was meeting a teenager who the Waite family didn’t even know existed, selfishly I was looking forward to getting to know my own flesh and blood. I didn’t want to tell Milo right now because I didn’t know what his reaction would be. For now, I wanted to see what Elias was like and get his story. Then I’d sit down with the whirlwind I appeared to be dating and see if it didn’t cause a tornado.

“Shit.” I realised it was a quarter to eleven and I needed to set off to the yard. I’d been caught up in messaging Eli.

I wasn’t sure what to wear. Josh said I was taking a look around, but it felt a lot like some kind of preliminary interview. In the end I put on a pair of plain black trousers and a white blouse. I was going to be warm, but I’d rather be smart looking. The yard was only a ten-minute walk away so I slowly made my way there in the hope that by not rushing I wouldn’t be sweating like a pig by the time I arrived.

The sign appeared ahead of me. Waite Home Renovations with the phone number underneath. I walked across the yard and took in my surroundings. There was a small concrete office that said ‘Reception’ on the door, a medium-sized warehouse, and parking for five vehicles.

Josh was on the phone when I walked into the reception. He indicated for me to take a seat and then carried on chatting away and booking in some work into a paper diary. I looked on his desk seeing an almost empty cup of cold coffee. I knew how he liked it from breakfast at his house, so I headed over to a glass windowed door behind him and pushed it open. Sure enough there was a kitchen and a bathroom through there. I filled the kettle, and switched it on.

A couple of minutes later I heard the outer door open and Josh walked through.

“Initiative and making me drinks. When can you start?”

  I laughed.

“Let’s grab those drinks and I’ll give you a quick tour. And when I say quick, I mean quick; there’s not a lot to look at.”

“Sounds good.” I finished making the drinks while Josh went and answered the phone again. Finally, we made it back out of reception. “Most of the time I have the office phone diverting to my mobile phone because we’re not around. As you can imagine it can be pretty disruptive.”

I nodded. “So how come you’ve not got anyone working in the office at the moment, if you need them?”

“Long story and I don’t know if Milo has told you but we had Finn’s girlfriend Sylvie working here for a long time, but once they split up and she met someone else, she left. After that we had a few short-term placements but none stayed because it’s not the most glamorous of surroundings and there’s a lot of time spent on your own. They moved on. Then of course, Silas slept with one of them which created chaos.” He looked at me. “I realise you have something going with Milo, but I think you’d be perfect for the job, so on this occasion I’m willing to risk it if you are?”

My mouth turned up at the corners. “If I take this job you have to tell Milo there’s no dating between employees. I’m sorry but that’s too good an opportunity to pass up.”

Josh chuckled. “You see, this is what Milo has needed. Someone to banter back against him.” His face fell slightly. “And to love him, because he acts all cool and cocky, but really he’s a teddy bear.”

  “I’m noticing.”

Josh unlocked the warehouse and we walked inside. It was a big space filled with things like pieces of wood, plasterboard, plaster, paint, and piping. “We have things here that we keep in stock all the time, stuff used regularly, then we also store anything ordered for a job. It would be part of your job to keep inventory and to order the items, price up everything for invoicing. At the moment everything is done on paper. I would pray for a computerised system. How are your computer skills?”

“Pretty damn fine if I say so myself. I did a secretarial course at college, and I’ve kept up to date with things. Anything like invoicing I’m sure I could pick up quickly. You can learn anything via YouTube or Google these days.”

“Obviously this place has to be locked up at all times, and the lads are supposed to say what they take. I’d leave it to you to work out a system for that, other than them trying to guesstimate at invoice time. You’ll probably pay for yourself in terms of what they forget to bill for!”

“So you have the board at home that you write your schedule on on a Saturday morning. I like that still because it’s easy to look at and see what everyone’s doing, but if things need changing around it doesn’t work.” />
Josh nodded. “It’s time for a system that’s on our phones to be accessed at all times. We need to be leaving the house as being exactly that, our house, and having the meetings in the office. We can fetch bacon butties and things. The guys need to be calling in here every morning for updates before they go on their jobs. On days you don’t work, I’ll do my best to keep your systems going.”

“You keep saying my systems as if you’ve given me the job and I’ve accepted.”

Josh dropped to his knees and put his hands in a prayer pose. “Please help us, Violet.”

I laughed. “Oh God, I see where Milo gets it from.”

He got up and laughed. “What do you say?”

“I say, how about I start Monday? If… I can definitely bring my dog.”

Once the animal sanctuary worker had visited that night and assessed my home as being ideal for Rocky, I was buzzing. I had a new job and was getting my pet. Tomorrow while I met Eli in town, I’d go pick up some pet stuff ready for collecting him on Wednesday morning.

  I texted Milo.

Violet:I’m all approved for Rocky! I’m collecting him Wednesday morning.

Milo:My Wednesday job just cancelled, so I can come with you if you like?

Violet:That would be fab. Would you drive and then I can sit and comfort him on the journey?

Milo:Can’t Rocky drive and you can comfort me on the journey?

Violet:Want to come around tonight and I’ll cook you dinner? Then I’ll comfort you in advance. Right, now you’ve ruined the word comfort. I can reassure my dog.

Milo:I will drive you to and from the rescue place and yes to dinner.

Violet:Great. See you at seven tonight?

  Milo:Be naked.

I laughed and placed my phone down. Right now, I felt on top of the world, like my life was finally all coming together. I threw all notions of visiting my mother out of the window. Why upset myself when right now I seemed to have everything I needed?
