Smashed Steel: A Steamy Stand Alone Sports Romance (Steel Crew Book 7) Page 20

by Mj Fields

One night, I had a breakdown, and it was because I realized I have basically run from everything my entire life, and Amias gave me big hugs and held me together. After I calmed down, he told me I didn’t run away from anything. I was running to him, and that I just didn’t know it yet.

I also kind of love that.

I lean back and look up at the stars when something catches my vision.

Zandor, Jase, Cyrus, and Xavier are all standing on the balcony above me.

  “Ellis,” Xavier calls down.

“Xavier,” I call back to him.

The four of them have been drinking for a few hours. Apparently, this is normal on this particular weekend.

“Is it true you met My while he and his old teammates stripped for you and your friends?”

“That is, in fact, true.” I nod.

“You think, if this baseball gig doesn’t work out, he could maybe make a living shaking his ass?” Zandor asks.

  “Wha-wha-what?” I laugh.

“Ignore them,” Bekah says as she walks toward me and hands me a virgin daiquiri.

  “Totally ignore them.” Taelyn laughs.

  “Ignore me?” Xavier calls down.

“See? I’m ignoring him, and he’s trying to get me to—”

A shirt hits her in the face from above, and all four of them start down the stairs toward the pool area.

“What song was it, Ellis?” Jase asks.

“Bet it’s this one.” Cyrus chuckles.

“Oh, God, this isn’t good,” Tara sighs, sitting behind me in a chair, holding Creed.

“By not good, you mean great, right, Birdie?” Cyrus winks while ‘Pony’ by Ginuwine plays from the outdoor speaker system.

“Jase, no cookies. None. You hear me?” Carly asks, walking out to the table, and his shirt hits her in the face.

“You’re getting the whole bakery tonight, baby.” Jase laughs.

“Prepare yourself, Kitten.” Zandor pulls Bekah’s chair away from the table and starts moving his hips in front of her.

Tris snorts. “Oh, shit, here we go again.”

Then I hear laughter from Brisa, Kiki, Truth, and Bella.

I pull my feet out of the water and stand.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Amias asks from behind me.

I shake my head. “Do not do this to me here.”

“This isn’t even our song.” He rolls his eyes as he looks down at his phone. “Just sit down. The old men will throw their backs out or some shit soon enough.”

“Throw my back out?” Cyrus huffs as he lifts Tara, who’s holding their baby, and sits down in her spot. “Come here, Birdie; perch that fine ass on my lap and dance for Daddy.”

“He did not just say Daddy!” Carly laughs as she peeks around Jase, who’s straddling her.

“Yes, he did, but he’ll have to wait. Creed needs to be fed.” Tara laughs.

“Irish, eyes back on the prize.” Xavier chuckles.

“You are a man child.” She snorts.

“And the star of your very own porno.”

Laughing, I look back at Amias, who is no longer behind me, and see all the girls laughing as they walk out from under the balcony toward me.

Brisa grabs my hand and drags me over to the lounge chairs, and we all sit.

Sutton and Gabrielle walk out with Tricks and Justice, all of them laughing.

Sutton puts her fingers in her mouth and whistles loudly. “That’s it. Work it, Grandpa X.”

“Stop objectifying me,” he calls back.

I can’t stop laughing as I cover my face.

When the song ends, I hear ‘Candy Shop’ and look around until I see Trick’s, Justice’s, Amias’s, Max’s, and Brand’s asses facing us. Tobias and Ranger stand to the side, both shaking their heads.

  “Where’s Matteo?” Brisa asks Tris.

  “He went to bed early.”

Five asses, five narrow sets of hips, all swaying to the beat of the music. Only one matters.

They turn, and their shirts get tossed to the side.

“Oh, God, Max, don’t do it!” Carly laughs.

“How does every guy know this dance?” I ask the girls.

“They’ve practiced this since they figured out what their penises were for.” Tris laughs.

  Epilogue Two

  Final Game of the Season

Watching the game from the box isn’t the same as watching it from the dugout, but not much is the same anymore. However, I am truly grateful to have the box to sit in, since our little Teddie Bear came into this world a bit early, and I’m not exposing her to the crowds or taking a chance of a foul ball coming down on us.

I lean down and kiss Teddie’s sweet little head as I look down to the front row where Georgie insisted on sitting for her daddy’s last game, with Poppa Z.

“He’s up to bat next, right?” Sutton asks as she somehow manages to nurse both babies at once.

  “He is.”

“And there’s no chance of them winning?”

“They’re down by ten, with two strikes at the bottom of the ninth. I’d love to say yes, but I know that, even if Vander gets on first and Amias hits a grand slam, which he will, there’s no way it’ll make it around to him again. The team has gotten good, but realistically, this is it.”

“So, next year the World Series?” Kiki, who is up here with us, too, because too many people recognized Brand, her mega country star husband, at the last game.

“Better be,” Tris, who also gets recognized, but sadly, it’s not because of her talent. It’s because of the leaked near-pornographic videos from her ex.

  “Shh …” Brisa shushes her.

I look back at her, and all the girls glare at each other.

  Awkward.

“Now we have to tell her,” Brisa snaps at them. “She feels like—”

“I’m good, Brisa. Just hormonal.” I laugh.

“We’re buying the Jags,” Tris blurts out.

  “What?” I gasp.

“Matteo and I have a bunch of money. JT, Truth, Brisa, Kiki, and Bella, we all have trust funds that need to be spent. Don’t tell our parents, or Amias.”

  “Hold on. You’re seriously—”

  “We heard Buck and Dad—”

“No, you heard them,” Brisa cuts her off. “I’m not that nosy.”

“Whatever,” Tris huffs. “He offered it to Dad and, well, their money’s tied up and takes longer to liquidate, so we decided, fuck it. We don’t know how My’s going to feel, but when he retires, he can buy in. Max can as well when his trust is released . It’s a crew thing.”

  “You’re being serious.”

  “Sure am.”

  “So, you’re my—our—boss now?”

“Hell no! Buck’s staying on as GM until our fathers end up bullying their way in.”

“But why would you buy the Jags and not—”

“It’s actually smart business.” Kiki smiles. “We own the team and the properties. We can hold concerts and events during the off season, and since we have a tie-in to the music industry”—she grins—“we know we can make it a happening concert spot and draw large crowds.”

“And because my asshole ex is fucking with the market and Steel Inc.—”

“You don’t know that for sure,” Brisa whispers.

  Tris shrugs. “Yeah, well, I—”

“My’s up!” Brisa jumps up, and they all rush up to the glass.

“There’s your daddy, little Teddie Bear,” Brisa coos.

“I hope you have your daddy’s butt,” I whisper against Teddie’s dark hair.

“That would have been fine if Teddie was born a boy, but she’s gonna have momma’s ass, right, Teddie?” Kiki asks looking over my shoulder.

“You’ll have a brother in about ten months, Teddie.” Tris snickers.

“Hell no. Not until …” I stop as I watch Amias swing and hit the first ball pitched. “My, what are you doing?”

  “He’s hitting a ho
me run.”

“No, something’s off.” I watch the ball fly. “It’s a foul.”

“How do you …?” Tris stops and watches the ball fly out of bounds. “Won’t ask that again.”

“Ask anything you need to—you own the team.”

“Partial owner,” Brisa corrects as I watch Amias step back into the box.

“Look at his footing. His spread is too wide. I think he’s going to bunt, which makes no sense.” I stop when he swings and misses. “Come on, Amias; shake it off and focus.”

  The next pitch comes in.

“His stance is perfect,” I whisper to Teddie. “Watch Daddy.”

He hits the ball, and it soars.

I watch as he rounds the bases, and then I see him slide into home.

“Why did he slide?” I wonder aloud.

“He’s hot dogging. He did that in high school, too.”

“And did he not get up during high school?”

  “No,” Brisa whispers.

It feels like ten minutes have passed, but I know it’s only been thirty seconds. Regardless, with Teddie strapped in front of me, I head out of the box and make my way to the field. Each step closer, my heart beats faster.

  “Get up, My, get up.”

I have no idea what it could be, but the closer I get, the less I can see. The entire team is surrounding him.

Security allows me to pass without hesitation as I make my way onto the field.

The team circled around him opens up, and I see Georgie standing beside him, and he’s … on one knee.

I look up and see us—me and my people on the big screens—as I walk closer to him.

“What are you doing?” I half-laugh and half-cry.

“Georgie and I were talking, and we thought it was about time you and I—”

  “And me!” Georgie grins.

“Of course and you.” He smiles and looks back at me. “We think it’s time we all share a last name. So, what do you say, Ellis Stavros? Will you do me the honor of becoming mine forever?”

Nodding, I smile and hold out my hand as he slides a beautiful solitaire diamond on my finger. “Yes, yes, yes.”

He stands, leans in, careful not to get Teddie dirty, and kisses me big time. “I love you, Sweets. The forever kind.”

  Are you ready to write?

Recently on TikTok MJ came across a newer author who mentioned how hard it was to make friends in the industry and it hit.

Her advice was to make one or two who you truly click with on a business and personal level and love them up. But she realizes that you need an audience in order to do that.

It has been a plan of hers for years to bring other authors into her worlds.

She’s done her research, participated in something similar and would love to extend the opportunity to you.
