I step back, behind her and get on one knee.
When she turns around, she nearly collapses.
The roar of the crowd disappears in the background. Only the two of us exist in this moment. She’s the most important person in the world to me. I can see her knees shaking.
She nods, frantically, as her eyes fill up with happy tears.
I slip the lavish ring on her finger and she sobs with joy.
I imagine the moment is overwhelming for her. I jump onto my feet and take her in my arms. I want her to know that she’s safe with me.
I won’t ever let her fall, unless it’s into our bed.
“I love you,” I tell her, as we embrace.
“I love you too,” she whispers back, through her tears.
Our love cuts through the cheers of the crowd. It feels like the whole world is celebrating our happiness.
I don’t care.
I only care about Lily, and she’s saying that I’ve made her the happiest girl in the world.
Well, If she’s happy, then I’m happy, from now until forever.
She’s completely turned my fortunes around and made my life better in every single way; I’ll never stop repaying her.
Forget work and money and football... Lily is who I’m dedicating my life to.
