“We are working on plans to pull our planet out of the shadows and remind the galaxies that we are alive and well. It’s time to move forward and regain our place amongst the leaders of the other worlds. For far too long, we’ve hidden in the shadows. That time is almost over. I’m only slightly sad that it won’t be under our reign that this victory will come to fruition. It’s only fitting that our son, one of the greatest gifts given to us by the gods, will see it to its end.”
Marek’s father lifted his hand, palm open, and moved it toward Marek, as if pointing him out. “The next King of Vartik has come home early to be with us. He will remain here for the next six months in preparation of his reign. The gods have brought to his door one of the most powerful deities in all of the universe. The twin daughter of light, his mate, Jazmine.”
Jazmine tucked herself farther into Marek’s side until he leaned down and pressed a kiss to the side of her head. “Stand up, baby. Let my people see their soon-to-be queen. Take your place beside me.”
She stiffened her shoulders and moved out from under him, glancing up at his mother and smiling softly. She nodded, giving her approval. Jazmine reached up to wipe a tear from her eyes as the crowd went wild.
The queen spoke up. “We couldn’t be more pleased. She and Marek will be wed within the next six months and they will sire twins shortly thereafter. Praise be to the gods for their graciousness. My son has claimed his mate.”
Marek turned toward her, tugging her against him as his arms wrapped around her tightly. Jazmine got lost in his eyes, unable to help herself from falling more in love with him in that moment than she ever thought possible.
“She’s right, you know.” Marek spoke softly.
“What part?” Jazmine locked onto her future, seeing every bit of it in Marek’s loving gaze.
“That I’ve claimed my mate. You’re mine. Now and forever.”
