‘Please?’ she quietly pleaded. ‘I know you really want to help me, because of what you are – The Angel Detective.’

Deans pushed the door, but stopped himself, leaving a small opened crack. A teardrop escaped from his eye and flowed in slow motion down his cheek. He wiped it away with a fingertip and counted to five in his head. He opened the door to the woman again and looked deeply into her eyes.

‘Yes,’ he said. ‘I suppose I am.’

He dropped his eyes and paused. Maria was with him. She was now part of him. He opened the door wide and stared at the woman.

‘Well,’ he said softly. ‘I guess you’d better come inside.’

  ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Being a writer isn’t a glamorous existence. Many sacrifices have to be made, especially when you are trying to write aside a ‘normal’ day job. Unfortunately, the nearest and dearest endure the brunt of these sacrifices. It is not always easy. My writing priorities don’t necessarily correlate with family priorities and there is a fine balance that has to be tread, and so I owe my family a great debt of gratitude.

I must send a huge thank you to many other people who have helped to create this book. To my superb editor, Debbie Hobbs-Wyatt who makes the editing process so painless. To my brilliant cover designer, Jessica Bell, and the excellent formatting team at Polgarus Studio. Not forgetting, my fantastic background team of advisers: Terry Galbraith, Phil Croll, Varun Sharma and Barbara Olive. I now have a team behind me that I can truly rely upon to help me make the best books possible.

Thank you to my team of Advance Readers, many of whom have become friends. You give me the encouragement to keep going through the gloomiest of days. Your support means everything to me. Once again, the support of my local community in North Devon has been unbelievable. You are a very special bunch of people and I am lucky to know many of you and call you my friends.

Finally, a sincere thank you to all of the readers who take the time to review my books and contact me. You give me the hope that writing can one day be my full-time occupation. Your kind words and encouragement truly mean the world to me.

  Thank you all.
