It may have only been four words, but it was progress from the death glares he sent him the last few weeks. Jude grabbed my hand and started leading me up the staircase. Our room was the second on the left and Stella’s room was right across. I was going to share a room with her, but we all knew I’d be in Jude’s bed every night anyways.
“Close your eyes little bird, I have a surprise for you.” I closed my eyes and he led me into his bedroom.
“Ok beautiful, you can look now.” I opened my eyes and was immediately in shock. The wall behind our bed was now painted with what our tree looked like. Actually, it was the same as his tattoo, but the bird is flying towards the tree instead of away. He even put twinkling lights all across the ceiling, making it look like the stars we would watch at night.
“You did this for me?”
“Yes and for me also. This was my favorite memory of us back in the day when we would lay under our tree and watch the stars. We would talk about everything from how are day was to what our dreams were. You know even when we were apart those few years, most nights I would wish I could just have one more night with you under our tree. Now that you’re here, I want to spend every night with you under our tree.” I jumped in his arms and kissed him deeply. This was the sweetest thing anyone could ever do for me.
He led me over on to the bed and we laid down wrapped up in each other. There was one thing I wanted to know so I asked him, “This is exactly like your tattoo, but why is the bird flying towards the tree and not away?”
“I painted it that way because you finally flew home.” I curled into him and he held me while we just stared at the twinkling lights. For once in my life I can finally say I’m home.
