The couch might have been too small for both of us, but River was practically lying on top of me. My arms were wound protectively around her. I was stroking her forehead, weaving my fingers in her precious curls. Neither of us had spoken in quite a while.

Then she started moving a little, adjusting herself so she could turn her head up to look at me.

“I tried to hate you for so long,” she said and her cheeks were a shade of bright red. It hurt me to watch her blush, to remember how many times I’d pictured her blushing like this and now I could see her in person.

“Do you still hate me?” I asked.

River sighed, she was thinking…I arched my eyebrows and she grinned.

“No, of course not, I can’t hate you Spade. Not after what you just told me.”

She leaned towards me and I gently kissed the tip of her nose.

I couldn’t imagine myself acting this way with anyone else. Any other woman. Sex was over. Why were we cuddling?

  Only with River.

“I’ve missed you,” I blurted out before she could say anything more. This was something else I wasn’t expecting to say. It wasn’t a part of the plan. I could see it had taken her by surprise as well. Her green eyes grew wider and she stared at me in awe.

“I didn’t think you were even thinking about me.”

“I was thinking about you every day, River. You have no idea how hard it was in the beginning to stop myself from picking up the phone and calling you.”

She looked concerned now and placed her head on my chest. I knew she could hear my heart racing.

“I missed you too, Spade. It was really hard for me too, even though I thought I needed to hate you.”

I kissed the top of her head and she snuggled up close to me. It was such a relief to know that we were back to being on good terms again. I had no idea where any of this was going to lead but I was just glad she was willing to talk to me again.

I stroked her hair and she looked up at me, her face shining and bright.

“Can I ask you now how long you’re going to be in Vegas? The last time I asked you, you refused to answer the question.”

River grinned and then took in a deep breath.

“Well the last time you asked me, I didn’t think you deserved to know. But the truth is that I don’t actually know myself. I don’t have a plan right now.”

That was good. That made me hopeful.

“Do you have anything important you need to go back for?” I asked, trying to not sound overly enthusiastic and scare her away.

  River shrugged.

“Other than the fact that I built a whole life there in Texas, for the past seven years.”

I nodded. It was foolish of me; to assume that I could just make her stay here in Vegas after all these years. Based on nothing.

“Have you thought about maybe moving back here?” I asked, trying to prepare myself for a huge let down. The most I could do was be appreciative of the time we had together, instead of trying to dig for more.

River shrugged, refusing to look me in the eye and staring up at the ceiling instead.

“I hadn’t really thought about it before I came here for the funeral. I’d spent so much time assuming that dad would not allow me to be here, that the thought never entered my mind. But I quit my job before I came here for the funeral.”

River lowered her eyes and looked at me straight. I wanted to kiss her again. I wanted to tell her just how happy I was to hear that, but I decided to keep the enthusiasm to myself.

“Well, you don’t have to decide anything right now. There’s no rush. You should take your time to grieve your loss and deal with whatever else you have to deal with here,” I said.

River searched my eyes and then she came closer to me. She kissed me, deeply and slowly, sinking herself into me so I held her. My arms tightened around her and we kissed till neither of us could really breathe any more.

She pulled away from me and her lips were plump and pink from the pressure of the kiss. She bit down on the lower one seductively.

“You always knew just what to say,” she said.

“And sometimes I said the absolute wrong things too,” I added and she rolled her eyes. I was glad to see she was smiling though.

  I wanted her again.

Just that one kiss was enough to get my cock going again. Besides, we’d wasted enough time already. My hands traveled down to her waist, to her smooth soft naked skin and she breathed in sharply because she knew where my hands were going next.

I reached down where I could feel the softness of the inside of her thighs and I slowly began to part her legs. River shifted, laying herself on top of me so that her back was on my chest. My nose was in her hair, I could smell the sweet citrus scent of her shampoo. It overtook my senses.

My arms stretched out over her, reaching for her sweet delicious pussy. Her butt was pressing up against my cock. How did she do it? What kind of magical powers did River have over me that I couldn’t control myself around her? Even after all these years.

She moaned when I first flicked her clit. She was wriggling her hips, moving them in a seductive circular way so that she could stroke my growing cock with her butt. I wanted every inch of her. I wanted to be inside her this time.

She reached over with both arms, crossing them behind my neck and she hauled herself up closer to me. Our mouths met and she gasped. My tongue slid into her mouth quickly and I was tasting her again. I couldn’t get enough of this woman. No matter how much time I spent with her, I would always want more.

With my fingers I was stroking her clit, it was swollen and there was a heat rising from between her legs. I could feel her sticky juices there in her core too. At the same time, we were kissing slowly. My tongue was diving in and out of her mouth. Echoing the motion of what it would be for my cock to be inside her pussy. I couldn’t wait.

I drew myself away from her, leaving her panting, and before she could say or do anything else I slipped out from under her. Just a few inches. Just enough to flip her over from over me. She sank into the couch and I switched positions with her again. I was over her, stretching myself over her body.

River parted her legs, inviting me towards her again. She reached up and started to roll my t-shirt. I helped it, pulling it off me and throwing it to the floor. River’s eyes grew wide, like she was fascinated with what she saw. She tried tracing the shape and design of my tattoos with her fingers, tracing them on my chest and arms. Then she squeezed my biceps and giggled a little.

I could see she admired the fact that I’d looked after myself. She was in awe of my muscular torso and my washboard abs. I wanted nothing more than to please her.

I leaned in and kissed her again, reaching up for her breasts and squeezing them. Her tits were perfect. The right size, fitting in my hands exactly. I tugged at her nipples, gently at first and then squeezed them hard while I kissed her. It made her squeal with delight and I rubbed her nipples with both palms.

I could hear her panting now. She was raising her hips up towards me, grinding herself with me so she could feel my cock growing between my thighs. I left a wet trail from her mouth down her slender neck, then I circled her left nipple with my tongue till she was gasping and pleading with me for more.

I opened my mouth wide and latched on to her nipple and started sucking. I watched as River’s eyes rolled back in her head and she wrapped her arms around me, pressing herself to me.

“Oh my God…Spade…please…give it to me…I want you…”

She was panting and hissing, trying to get her words out.

I drew my mouth away from one nipple and I was about to focus my attention on the other but my cellphone rang. Startling us both.

“Fuck. I need to get that,” I growled, skipping off the couch. I couldn’t avoid phone calls from the MC at a crucial time like this. It was Edge and I answered immediately.

  “Yeah?”

“Hey, you need to be here at the Clubhouse. Get here as soon a
s you can.”

“Yeah, okay. I’ll be there in twenty,” I said and hung up the call.

I had to clench my jaws, trying to get the throbbing to stop in my cock. I wanted to curse and shout, but I forced myself to turn to look at River.

She was still on the couch, already pulling her clothes up to herself from the floor.

“Sorry, something’s come up with the MC,” I said. She nodded and looked up at me while she hooked up her bra and started rolling up her panties.

“No worries. I get it. You have work to take care of,” she replied. Even though she was smiling, I could sense she was also a little disappointed.

“Can we meet again soon? I would like to take you out tonight,” I suggested, reaching for my own clothes now. I needed to stop looking at her naked body because my cock was still rock-hard for her.

River looked up at me and there was a glimmer in her eyes. Like she was surprised by my suggestion. Maybe she wasn’t expecting me to take her out, this soon. I couldn’t wait to see her again and I wanted her to know that.

  “Yes, sure, that sounds good.”

Within minutes we were both ready to go, even though we both looked a little bit of a mess.

“Tell me where you’re staying and I’ll drop you off there on the way,” I said.

“You don’t have to. I’ll take a cab,” River replied, shaking her head.

Before she could protest again, I reached for her and pulled her to myself. She fell with a thud on my chest and a big smile on my face.

“I want to drop you off. Okay?” I said and kissed her forehead.

She was blushing again, but bravely looking up at me.

“Okay,” she replied and reluctantly, we made our way out of the door of my house.

  Chapter Fifteen

  River

I was on Spade’s bike again, with my arms tightly wound around him as his engine roared. I could feel the vibration of the machine, the way it felt as it vibrated all through my body rhythmically. Spade was so powerful as he maneuvered it, gliding through traffic like we were on wings. His bike was so big and heavy I was sure I wouldn’t even be able to hold it up straight with all my strength if I had to.

I couldn’t focus on the traffic or the noises or the sights around me; all I could look at and think about was Spade in front of me. How seductive this experience was, just sitting behind him, having our bodies press up together like this. I still couldn’t believe any of this was actually happening. It just seemed so unreal.

The breeze was in my hair. My already messy curls blew everywhere, I had no control over them anymore, just like I had no control over my emotions for Spade either.

Even just a few days ago; if someone had suggested that I might be intimate with him again—that I might seriously be thinking about moving back to Vegas for him; I would have laughed. That sounded ridiculous even in my head when I thought about it. Spade had been just a distant memory all these years. Someone totally out of my reach.

The journey came to a quick end and Spade stopped the bike in front of Marley’s apartment building. He helped me off his bike and since he seemed to be in a hurry, I didn’t want to keep him. At the same time, I didn’t want to see him go either.

I smiled at him and started taking a few steps back while I admired his strong chiseled physique on the bike. He was grinning at me too. It was like we were both in disbelief that this was actually happening.

“I’ll see you later?” he shouted out to me. I’d backed right up to the steps of the apartment building and I nodded.

  “See you later…”

Spade revved up his engine once more, getting ready to leave, but before he did he gave me a wink. It literally made my knees weaken. That wink was like a secret story shared between us. Something that nobody else in the world knew about. I wanted to squeal and giggle like a school girl. Was this really happening?

Spade was zooming away in the next moment, but I stood there and watched him disappear. I couldn’t even keep my heart still. I wanted to feel it again…his tongue between my legs, his fingers exploring my hot wet core. His mouth on my pussy. My hand on his cock, growing and throbbing in my mouth.

All I could do was sigh. I looked up at Marley’s apartment. I’d been gone for a few hours now and I had no idea when she would be back home.

  ***

I used the key she’d given me to unlock the door and when I stepped in I saw Marley stepping out of the kitchen. She seemed fully dressed in her work clothes.

“I just came home on my break to check on you. Did you get my note? Did you have breakfast?” she asked cheerily.

I shut the door behind me, blushing hard.

“I slept in. It was too late for breakfast when I got home.”

“So, you’ve eaten lunch?” she asked and I heard my tummy grumble. I hadn’t even realized I’d eaten nothing but an apple all day. I shook my head.

“Silly you! I’ll make us some grilled cheese. Sit down!” Marley rebuked me.

Instead of sitting down, I followed her back into the kitchen where she was getting coffee ready. I was too impatient and excited to sit down and keep still. I knew I was going to tell her. What was the point of keeping it a secret from her anyway?

“I went to see Spade,” I blurted while Marley was preparing the sandwiches. She looked to the side to glance at me, but I could see she was curious to know more.

  “You called him?”

  I nodded.

“I told him I was ready to talk and we decided to meet up at a cafe nearby. I was so nervous,” I said.

Marley was chewing on her lip and as she laid the sandwiches down on the pan, she turned to me fully.

“Tell me everything. Don’t leave out any detail!”

I wanted to burst with information. I hadn’t realized how desperate I was to tell her everything and before I knew it, without losing a beat, I was blurting out everything.

I told Marley about the cafe, how hot he looked and how polite he was. Then I told her about how he invited me to his place and I didn’t leave out the thoughts that were going through my head. I wanted her to know that I wanted him. That the sex didn’t just happen out of the blue. Things and thoughts had been building up to it for a while, since I first saw him again at the Church for the funeral.

Marley was rapt with attention as she listened to me. The sandwiches were ready and we sat down at the kitchen table with our plates. They were greasy and the oil was on my fingers and I didn’t care. I was licking dripping cheese off my fingers as I narrated the events of the afternoon to my best friend.

I told her what Spade had revealed to me about the MC. The real reason why my dad had sent me away to Texas. Then how Spade admitted he’d lied to me on the phone that day. Then the sex.

Marley clamped her mouth with her hands when I got to that part. I was blushing but I wasn’t embarrassed to tell her how hot the sex was. How Spade knew exactly what to do to make me feel good. How dazed and happy I felt because I’d given myself to him.

“So, what’s going to happen next?” Marley asked as we dug into our sandwiches. I gulped down the food before answering.

“He said he wants to take me out tonight, so I guess we’ll see.”

Marley put down her sandwich before she squealed, fluttering her hands in the air with excitement. She jumped off her chair and came over to throw her arms around me.

“Oh my God, River! I am so happy and excited right now!”

“I didn’t realize you felt this strongly about Spade and me,” I said and Marley kissed both my cheeks first before she went back to sit on her chair.

“What can I say? I’m a sucker for the real deal…”

I rolled my eyes and shook my head.

“I’m not sure what any of this means. Right now, all I really care about is us spending time together so we can get to know each other all over again. Plus, the sex is great.”

“I’m sure that doesn’t hurt,” Marley added and we laughed.

>   “To Spade and River, round two!” she cheered and lifted her mug of coffee in the air so we could toast. We were still laughing as we sipped on the coffee.

I realized I hadn’t stopped smiling since I returned to the apartment. Marley was watching me. I knew she could sense the shift in my mood too.

“I always thought you two were perfect for each other. Even back then, when we were nothing more than kids. The two of you just clicked, and I never gave up hope that you would find your way to each other again, somehow.”

She was speaking in a low humming voice.

“That’s very sweet, honey, I’m glad one of us kept the hope up because I’d given up all of it. I didn’t think it would ever work out.”

She looked at me all excitedly again.

“But now there’s a chance, right?” she asked.

“Sure, there’s a chance. Fingers crossed that it all works out for the best, but I’m not going to push it. Things are still so complicated between us. I hope he’s not into me this time around because of nostalgia or some kind of act of defiance against my dad or something like that…”

Marley sighed and nodded her head.

“Yeah, you’re probably right. You should take it slow and figure it out. You finally have the chance to make your own decision without your dad’s will hanging over your head.”

  I nodded in agreement.

The idea of Spade and me in a serious relationship sounded amazing, it sounded perfect—but I didn’t know if that was what he wanted too. All I knew was that he wanted to see me again and that would have to be enough.

  Chapter Sixteen

  Spade

I was driving in the direction of the clubhouse, but all I could think about was River.

I still had no idea how any of this happened between us. One minute we were sitting in that cafe and talking and next minute we were in my house. The very fact that River had agreed to come to the house with me, when she knew we would be all alone—meant that she had kept herself open to the possibility that something might happen between us.

Whatever had happened to change her mind, I was glad it did.
