and the like. I like to see world building and character grow as I read. Plus, I thought this would be more fun than a collection. In fact I believe short stories will in the future be one of the biggest sellers when it comes to digital writing projects. I think digital short stories will strengthen the view of short stories in general to the average reader as I think now and for a very long time most readers haven’t had much interest to read short stories that often.
Q-Will others be working with you on these series?
a-Yes. I have three writers working on stories right now. One writer will have a story that will be a Tin Universe story coming out in 2012. The two other writers will have stories coming out in 2013. So while most of the stories will be by me. I’m also really enjoying working with other people. One of the things I’m looking forward to doing in the future is writing stories with other writers. It’s one of my favorite things to do when telling a story. I use to do that a lot when I was writing film scripts.
Q-You mentioned how monthly comics were a big influence on you deciding to do these projects. How do you think you will keep out of some of the pitfalls of comics such as late issues?
a-Well, for one thing the great art that artists produce takes time and that’s usually why comics are late. I have first drafts written of all of the stories up until 2014 and the stories by others will give me a break now and then. With that being said every month will contain a ton of revising, rewriting, and editing on my part. The no rest thing is in my future for as far as I can see but I spent the first half of 2011 writing, writing, and doing some of that writing to get the gears prepared for this so I’m not diving into the dark.
Q-Any merchandising plans for these series?
a-If I hire any artist to do any art covers, yes. Though I’m looking for somewhere outside of Cafepress who I’ve used in the past to create merch through. Right now all covers will be photo covers so as of now no but I really want to when I get the chance and cash to hire artists. Though as I talked of before, demand can change things and if one of the photo covers takes off and people want it, I’ll do what I can to make sure it happens.
Q-Are you excepting submissions from writers for stories and artists for covers?
a-Right now I’m closed to submissions because I can’t afford cover artists and the writers I have lined up already have slots open to them if they want to write more than what they have already committed to.
Q-What are you the most looking forward to in doing this?
a-The expansion of the universes, readers reading as these characters move forward, and hopefully readers caring about what will happens next because we have big plans for so much. I’m also looking forward to seeing how crazy this makes my brain after about six months.
