No matter what happened tonight, I already won. I had hit the jackpot with Henry.

“Michael Wins Again!” a magazine proudly exclaimed. I stood in the magazine section of the airport. All the magazine covers were talking about how our film won three awards, including the award for Michael.
“Pretty crazy, huh,” Henry said.
“The craziest. Feels like a dream.” I really couldn’t believe it. I flipped to a page in a Time issue and saw me and Henry on the red carpet. It was so surreal, like an out of body experience. I couldn’t wait to tell my kids and my grandkids. Let’s hope Henry would get to making some with me tonight.
I called up my grandma to tell her the good news. “Hey, grandma! Did you see me on TV last night?”
“I did. You looked stunning, darling. Your mother would be so proud of you,” she said, trying to stifle her bad cough.
“Yeah, it was amazing. Hopefully you’ll be able to come next time,” I said.
“Oh please, I’m too old for that. I’m happy just to watch it on the TV. That Henry boy looked so dapper on the red carpet,” she said, softly laughing.
“That’s nice of you to say. Actually Henry wants to say something to you,” I said. I handed him the phone. He was happy to take her call as people bustled by with suitcases on wheels. The smell of cinnamon from a bakery swirled around my nose, I could almost taste it.
“Hey, this is Henry Bermejo,” he said, cool as always.
“Hi, boy. I was just telling Jane, you were a handsome fella,” she said on speaker.
“Well I’m looking forward to visiting you in Maine. We’re on our way right now, just waiting at the airport,” he said.
“You’re kidding,” she said. And we weren’t. We had wanted to surprise my grandma and I felt this was the best way to do it.
“I can’t wait to see you and be with the best woman in the world, my Jane,” Henry smiled. “I just know I’m going to be with her forever.”
I blushed. My face grew hotter than a hot plate, but I was so elated to hear him say that. To my grandma, of all people! He had such high confidence.
“Well what are you waiting for? Get over here!” My grandma laughed.
I put the phone away and as our plane was docking at the airport, Henry looked into my eyes. “Here’s to fifty years more,” he said. He kissed me, warming my heart.
“I love you, Henry.”
“I love you, Jane,” he said, his hand caressing mine.
After all we had been through from Maine to Hollywood and to the Oscars, I felt I had finally reached some level happiness with my life and myself. I had found a great guy and I’d stood up for myself against Michael and the other people that had tried to stop me.
I couldn’t wait for tomorrow. I couldn’t wait for the rest of my life.
