Amy's Rest Page 19

  A Note from SR

I hope you enjoyed reading Amy’s Rest as much as I enjoyed writing it. It always amazes me where ideas can spring from, and this one came from a conversation I have with my wife every now and again about how we would cope if the other were to die. As morbid as it might sound, it’s actually quite comforting to know that your partner just wants you to be happy, and that’s what I wanted to write about in Amy’s Rest.

Georgia and Zoe are both dealing with grief but in vastly different ways and it was interesting to me, during the course of writing their story, how they dealt with that grief and each other. And of course I couldn’t resist throwing in some good old Aussie humour.

When I started out, Amy’s Rest was meant to be a single, stand-alone book, but once I began writing about Elizabeth Creek, I realised there were more stories to be told. I can’t say too much at the moment, but I have at least three more stories set in Elizabeth Creek that are percolating away. If you want to know when they’re ready, be sure to jump on to my mailing list, so you’ll be the first to know.

And if you have a few minutes, I’d love an honest review on the site you bought Amy’s Rest from. Reviews help readers find books they love and encourage new readers to take a chance on authors they might not have tried before. Even a short note on what you thought about the books you read makes a huge difference, and of course, each and every review I get means a lot to me, so thank you so much if you write one!

If you want to get in touch with me directly, you can do that via email or social media. I love hearing from readers and answer every message and email I get. I am most active on Twitter and Facebook, and can be found posting pictures of my dogs, coffee and home brew on Instagram.

  Acknowledgements

There are always a lot of people involved in writing my books, from answering small questions, to digging me out of major plot holes to pushing me forward and giving me the motivation to keep going.

Huge thanks to Alison Bedford as always, for keeping me on track with this, my first foray into adult fiction. Your ideas and subtle nudges and not-so-subtle suggestions have made the book much better than it would have been without you.

Thank you to Diana King for helping me name Elizabeth Creek. Anyone who has ever heard me talking about my writing knows naming people and things is not my strong point, so I’m extremely grateful to you for saving me from pulling my hair out finding just the right name for the small Australian town that became Elizabeth Creek. Also, thanks to Kristin Charles for coming up with Amy’s daughter’s name, Harper. She is much more suitable to Harper than any of the names I could come up with.

Michael Wait deserves special mention. Although the specifics of cars aren’t mentioned too much in any of my books, you’re always my go-to car guy when I need to know what sort of car my characters would drive. It makes it even better that I can give you a vague description of a character and you nail their vehicular choice every time.

To my first readers and Aussie author mates, Sophie, KJ, Camryn and Lesley whose comments and encouragement guided me through the uncharted waters of adult lesfic and made the journey so much easier, I owe you all a beer next time we see each other. My betas are getting way too numerous to name individually now, but you know who you are, and I can’t ever say it enough - your enthusiasm for my new books every time you read one keeps me going.

To every reader who has taken my stories and characters to heart and loved them as much as I do, if not more, thank you too - you are the reason I write.

And finally, as always, to my wife, Teresa, whose unwaivering faith and support (along with the constant dirty looks when I’m not at my laptop working) propels me forward into each new bookish adventure.
