“What does it say?”
“It doesn’t say anything. It’s a map.”
“What kind of map?”
“I think it’s a treasure map, it has an X on it. Maybe that’s what Captain Tobias meant when he said it was the greatest treasure a mouse could ever have.”
“Maybe.”
“What do you think Gnuj will do in Laurus? Do you think he’ll tell them who he is, tell them the whole story of how Laurus was created?”
“I don’t think so, but I do think he’ll find the peace he’s been looking for.”
“And he’ll get to fly in one of those Bubble Riders. How fun would that be? It’s funny how something he thought was so tragic turned into something so amazing.”
“Life is like that sometimes. If Papa hadn’t been killed I never would have met you.”
“I don’t know, we still probably would have met, just in a different way.”
“You sound like Papa. He says if you love someone, you just roll through life toward each other until you meet again.”
“I wonder how long we’ve been friends?”
“Probably forever, maybe longer.”
Orville looked up at the sound of approaching footsteps.
“Arghh, pardon my intrusion, Captain Dread Pirate Orville,’tis white sails plyin’ the seas to the east. Shall we give merry chase, run down the scurvy blaggards and rid them of their gold and gems?”
“Maybe later, I’m kind of hungry right now. Is there any snapberry pie left?”
“Arghh, ’tis three whole pies still at the ready.”
“Yum, sounds good. Sophia, do you want some pie?”
“No thanks, but a glass of lemonade would be nice.”
“Arghh, as ye wish, so it shall be.”
“Orville, I know it’s your dream, but do you think the pirates need to say ‘arghh’ so much?”
“That’s what pirates say, everyone knows that. Arghhh.”
“You’re kind of cute for a dread pirate.”
“You think I’m cute? Not scary looking?”
“Cute and scary looking.”
“I guess that’s okay.”
“I saw some islands to the west, maybe we should explore them.”
“We might find treasure.”
Sophia leaned her head on Orville’s shoulder, taking his paw in hers.
“We already have, Dread Pirate Orville.”
