No one could ever consider me a virgin after I got my life back together following Chris’ betrayal.

“Alright, I want you to know something before you start,” Eric says. “You don’t have to tell me everything. I know it’s painful for you to talk about.”

Well, he’s half-right, though I believe he needs to know everything in case he wants to run for divorce court prior to us having kids.

“Like I said, his name was Chris. We met in the police academy. At first, it was just some fun. Friends with benefits to help relieve some of the stress of being yelled at all day.”

My fingers grip Eric’s thigh, the muscles in my jaw tightening when the memories creep up in my mind.

“It became more once we entered the force. Chris quickly became detective, rising through the ranks as the precinct’s big shot. I was proud of him. He’d worked so hard. The night after his promotion, we went out to celebrate. He was drunk off his ass when he went down on his knee and asked me to marry him in the middle of the restaurant.

“Idiot as I was, I said yes. It was only two days later I started noticing Chris wandering around the precinct flirting with every female cop he found.”

I pause to get a grip on myself by reining in the hurt and betrayal at the asshole who took advantage of me.

“He was using you, Destiny. You were nothing but pussy to him.”

I nod. “I found that out the hard way and confronted him with it. He yelled at me, laughed at me and said I wasn’t anything but a warm cock-sock he used when he needed to get off. The marriage, he said, was a joke to please the guys who dared him to ask me.”

Eric’s fist tightens over my hand. Looking up at him, I see the veins in his neck starting to pop out, his gorgeous face turning red. “I’d like to kill the bastard.”

I can’t help but chuckle. “Careful. You’re admitting pre-meditated murder in front of an officer of the law.”

  We both burst out laughing.

“Eric - really though. I think if I saw Chris again, I’d thank him. If it weren’t for him, I’d never have come here. Never have found you or the friends who live in a small town I’ve come to love.”

Eric grins that sexy crooked grin, bringing his dimple out to play. Neither one of us says a word when he takes me to the plush rug in front of the fireplace.

Our lips meet as his hand draws my leg up. That’s when I know I’ve found my place.

Right here by this man’s side for the rest of our lives.

  Thank You
