“Well, I don’t want to be presumptuous, but a yes would be nice.”
“What? I didn’t say it?”
Gideon shook his head.
With a smile, Rowan leaned down and held Gideon’s face as he kissed him. The kiss was deep as he slid his tongue over Gideon’s. He breathed in deeply and pulled back, opened his mouth, hesitated but then smirked, saying, “I’ll tell you later. In bed.” He tilted his head and picked up his phone. “Right now, I need to text everybody.”
“I hate you,” Gideon expressed, lifting his hips as he rearranged the front of his pants.
“Not what your bubble is saying.” Rowan pointed to the empty space above Gideon’s head. “It’s all hearts and blushing emojis.” He scrolled through his cell.
Gideon couldn’t argue with that observation; his heart and head were full of Rowan. “Oh,” he quipped as he realized something.
“Hmm? What?” Rowan looked up from his phone.
“Jared.”
Rowan froze then comically slapped his forehead. “Oh my God. What time is it? Gah.” He rushed from the room as he made the call.
“I’m so sorry,” Gideon heard him say when Jared answered.
Leaning his head back, Gideon stared at the pattern of light on the ceiling. He could hear Rowan in the other room. In the office, Rowan was organized, on top of everything. At home, he was kind of an airhead, preferring to take things as they came. He smiled when Rowan erupted into laughter.
Gideon picked up the remote and turned off the television. He got to his feet, switched off lights as he made his way to the bedroom eager to hear Rowan’s answer, though he was ninety-nine percent sure he knew what it was. There was always that one percent of unpredictability when it came to Rowan. He nudged open the door, his chest tightening as he laid eyes on Rowan’s shining eyes, his nose crinkling as he laughed.
“I have to go,” Rowan said. “I’ll let you tell Gideon yourself when you’re in the office next. Yes. Goodnight. Be safe and Happy New Year.” He hung up. “Sorry about that.”
Gideon shook his head. “Problem solved?”
“Yes.” Rowan placed his cell on the nightstand.
Never change.
Gideon walked up to Rowan and wrapped him in a hug. “I love you,” he said.
“Me too.” Rowan hugged him back then mumbled into the crook of his neck, “Yes, in case it wasn’t already obvious. My answer is yes.” He gripped Gideon’s back with warm hands. Gideon closed his eyes and it was as if a light glowed inside him, bright, happy, warm. Together with Rowan, they could be a family.
My precious PA.
He pressed a kiss to Rowan’s forehead.
And one day…my husband.
THE END
Jared is hired for thirty-three dollars and fifty-nine cents and it’s the first day of falling in love with Nate and his son.
Jared is a part-time student of psychology and funds his studies by working for Bryant & Waites. Youngest son of a sprawling family back in Wisconsin, New York has proven to be a lonely place even if he does love meeting new people in his job. Playing by the rules has made him Gideon’s favorite hire, but his heart is big and too often he finds himself in the weirdest of situations. Jared is strictly professional, that is until he meets Luka sitting on the office steps with pocket money in hand and the saddest expression Jared has ever seen. He never means to take the job, but his soft heart and his connection with Luka brings him into Nate’s life, and when fake turns real, things will never be the same again.
Being a single dad to eleven-year-old Luka is the best thing in Nate's world, but add in running a bar with long hours, and his work-life balance is screwed. There’s certainly no time for relationships, and even though Luka worries about his dad’s love life on a daily basis, romance is the last thing on Nate’s agenda. Owning Rhea’s Bar and keeping his head above water is second only to the love for his son—the most important person in his life. His entire world consists of his son and the bar until Jared stumbles into his life. Even though Nate won’t admit it, he’s lonely and Jared is the first friend he’s made in a very long time.
