Roger laughed. “Oh he really does have you fooled.”
Not in the least. I just know better than to push his buttons. Roger might be a good judge of character, but she wasn’t so bad herself. “If he is as bad as he pretends to be, I don’t think Lena would be married to him.”
“They say love is blind,” Roger teased.
Gia shook her head. “No. I think love is understanding and forgiveness and acceptance and sometimes”—she gave him a playful wink—“tolerance too.”
Roger looked shocked. “What did I do?”
“Where would you like me to start?” she asked.
Softly Roger asked, “I guess with what I did wrong.”
Gia smiled. “That’s a mighty . . . short list.”
He cocked his brow. “Then let’s get that one out of the way.”
“You forgot to bring me one of those burgers.”
Roger laughed. “That’s easily rectified. Would you like me to go now?”
“Don’t you dare. I finally have some time with you.” She had been so busy meeting the entire Henderson clan she’d barely had a moment to stop.
“Then what do you say we take a walk?” Roger asked.
She grinned and ran her fingers up his chest. “I have a better idea. What do you say we go home?”
Roger bent down and scooped her up into his arms. “I know this private beach that has the most amazing view of the stars.”
“Who needs a shooting star when I already have everything I want in you?”
He looked down at her. “Gia, have I told you today how much I love you?”
He had several times already, but she’d never grow tired of it. “I’m not sure, maybe if you say it again, and this time with a kiss.”
Roger said, “If I do that, we’re leaving without saying goodbye. You might hear about it from the ladies tomorrow.”
She knew he wasn’t joking, and really, that was okay with her. Wrapping her arms around his neck Gia said, “I’m willing to risk it if you are.”
Roger tightened his grip and headed to the car. Today might have been wonderful, but she knew tonight was going to be fantastic.
