Zu and Jay made their way back to their car, passing the Grand Arcade on the way. Zu decided that she was too tired to do any more shopping anyway. They took a detour via Granchester to see where the First World War poet Rupert Brooke, the writer and politician Jeffrey Archer and, equally importantly for Jay at least, the musician David Gilmour had once lived. The village was typically English with quaint pubs and old houses lining the winding main road. The other side of the village opened out into green and yellow fields adorned with vibrant bushes and occasional trees. Swallows gorged themselves on unsuspecting midges as an amber sun made its descent. Zu and Jay made a mental note to return one day as they drove onto the motorway and headed back to London.
They were warmly met by Zu’s parents as they arrived back in London. Omar came down to the kitchen to thank Jay for fixing his quadcopter, shaking Jay’s hand so vigorously that it almost hurt. Sharif was friendly too, exchanging debugging and memory overflow experiences with Jay. But Jay quickly made his excuses and left. Both were tired. Zu walked Jay to the front door where they kissed and hugged, each not wanting to let the other go.
