I shake my head. Hard is an understatement. “We’re an absolute mess. Maybe we should just divorce and move in opposite directions.” I’ll have to find another church, sell my parents’ home, move cities, and get a new job. I don’t know what else to do. Without Max, Chicago no longer holds much of an appeal. Nothing does, and I’m sick of being lonely with him in the same city.
“Bollocks! I can’t do this anymore. Enough, Ismerlda, just bloody enough already. Come home. I need you there.”
“You need me?”
“I do. And I want you…like nothing I’ve ever desired before. It’s fierce, lovey, the way I feel for you.”
“I want you too,” I softly admit, and his lips fall to mine. He wraps his strong hold around me, my chest pressing against his firm frame. He’s never felt better than in this moment. My husband, my protector. Things are far from perfect, and I suspect they never will be; however, I hope we can build from this. No more pain or betrayal, just loyalties and promises kept to each other. “I’ll come home.”
“You belong there, with me. I don’t want to lose you again.”
I can’t believe he’s confessing this. Maybe he’s as shaken up inside as I am but is better at hiding it. There’s too much craziness in our world to hold back on how we feel. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in all of this, it’s that. “You won’t lose me. I’m done holding myself back from you. I want our marriage, to be with you…us.”
“Then you shall have it, darling. It’ll be a wild ride indeed, but we’ll take it together.”
I offer him a bright smile. After the craziness of today, I’m ready to sit back and let him take care of things. I’m tired, and knowing I have the henchman by my side has an immense sense of relief flowing through me. I tuck my arm in his, my large diamond wedding ring sparkling in the sunlight. I want the world to see me walk out of this building in one piece, by his side. No one will ever doubt who my husband is, nor his wrath that’ll follow should they threaten me.
I’m Ismerlda Macintosh, and I’ve fallen for the Chicago Crew’s henchman, the right hand to the newest leader of the Chicago Syndicate. This city is their playground, the world at their fingertips, and you’re merely walking through it.
Give a man a mask, and he will
become his true self.
– The Joker
“It worked.” Thaddaeus smirks. The bloke is close to gloating, not that I can hold it against him. He’s right, it indeed worked.
“Were you doubting it? You suggested I set those Irish up after all, and frighten her right back into my arms. Worked like a charm. Too easy.”
He flashes teeth, his wild Joker smile making a quick appearance. “Of course not. We’ve both learned that in life, playing fair will only get you so far. We play to win, at all costs. I thought courting her would work, but you were right, she grew up accustomed to nice things, so it never would’ve had the same effect on her as it did with Grace. You took me by surprise, however, telling the Irish it was Dante Vendetti in those offices and not your wife. Way to assure they’d seek retribution and hit hard. I’m sure they’re stirring up more trouble for the Empire as we speak.”
I shrug. “Dante made the mistake of believing I wasn’t onto him from the moment he stepped foot into Chi-town. Bloody smug New Yorkers, the lot of them, always peering down their noses at the syndicate, at our crew. Too many chaps run their no good mouths. It was only a matter of waiting on the right intel. Once Mario had mentioned the Irish looking for Vendettis, it all fell right into place. For the Empire having so many enemies, it should’ve been done already.”
“And they were too foolish to know you belong to the syndicate, that the henchman is British.” He chuckles, thoroughly amused at their ignorance.
I snicker. “Perhaps I’m not a proper mobster if my details haven’t made the rounds with them. Sounds a bit of a challenge, if you ask me. I should teach them a lesson for not doing their research.”
He shakes his head. “We can use this to our advantage, your lack of details amongst them. You, my friend, can plant some seeds in their ears. They’ll be at war with the Vendettis in no time and keeping them off our backs. I’ll be left at the table, alone, to reign over Chicago. Frankly, I’m surprised you didn’t kill any of those convicts, especially seeing as they messed up that face of yours. You must’ve wanted this to work out badly to leave them breathing and all.”
“I killed them at Isa’s office, so it worked out. None of them had a chance to speak. It’s a dangerous game you’re playing with Dante, mate,” I warn. Those seem to be the ones I enjoy the most though.
“Aren’t they all? And yet we grow stronger.”
“Touché.”
“Go home and fuck your wife, Max. Your secrets are safe with me. All of them. As are mine with you.”
I’ll take them to the grave.
I enter the flat, discovering my provocative wife on the couch amongst the ridiculous amount of throw pillows she’s added. She’s alluring in her satin nighty, especially since I know the fancy material will soon be on the floor where it belongs for the remainder of the night. She’s far too stunning to waste time wearing clothes when I’m around. “Aren’t you a positively brilliant sight.”
She beams a wide smile in return, hopping off her arse to come at me. I open my arms, tucking her curves against my solid frame. “I ordered us sushi. Don’t worry, I didn’t answer the door.” She’s learning how to be my wife, and that pleases me, knowing I’ll get to keep her forever.
“Mm,” I murmur, running my hands down her back to rest on the perky globes of her arse. She has the best behind I’ve ever seen and touched. It’s one of my favorite parts on her. “Hop up, love,” I order, lifting her until she wraps those luscious thighs of hers around my waist. “Sushi sounds delicious, but I’d rather eat your pussy first. Tell me, are you wet for me? Will I find you dripping?”
“Max,” she gasps, her gaze instantly heating. She loves it when I lick her until she screams. One orgasm is never enough. I want her quaking from them, always going through her days satisfied.
I carry her to the counter separating the living area and kitchen, setting her down. The marble’s cool against her warm silky flesh, but she doesn’t complain, only grins as I push her backwards. My hands glide over her shapely thighs, pushing the satin material up until her pussy is before me. I groan at the sight. Her waxed cunt with a middle strip beckons me, welcoming my tongue and touch with her dripping juices.
“How hungry are you?” she goads, spreading her thighs wide. She’s never one to shy from showing me what she wants. It’s beyond sexy when the vixen in her comes out.
“Bloody ravished,” I manage before my mouth is on her core. I open wide, sucking as much of her at once, relishing in her cry. I slurp as I pull my lips away, savoring her sweet, fresh flavor momentarily before diving back in. I lick from her bum to her perfect tiny clit. Nibble on it until she squirms and begs, then thrust a few fingers inside her entrance.
“Yes!” she moans, fingers twisting my hair, yanking until it burns my scalp. I enjoy the vexing Italian most when she’s absolutely mad for me. I can’t seem to get my fill, and she gladly opens for me whenever I reach for her.
I fuck her cunt with my fingers until she’s soaked and coming all over my hand. Once I know she’s been satisfied, I free my long cock, pushing inside her warmth without further ado and groan in delight. I’m not patient in life, nor with sex. There’s no better feeling than being inside her. I enjoy it more than killing. “I needed to feel your hot pussy wrapped around my fat cock. I’d been thinking of it all day.”
“Even after this morning? You wanted me again, so soon?”
“I told you.” I press kisses over her shoulders, she’s damn sexy there too. “I’ll eat and fuck this sweet pussy of yours multiple times a day. I meant it, darling, I’ve not had my fill of you.” I’ve discovered that my wife has an extraordinary sexual appetite as well. She’s bloody perfect and no one could convince
me otherwise. I’d end up stabbing them in their throat for attempting.
“Then fuck me harder, Max. I want to feel you everywhere.”
“Oh you’ll feel me all right,” I promise, driving in roughly, pushing her ass up the counter a bit. My hands move to her thighs, yanking her back to me. I wrap my arms around her so she can’t go anywhere and pound into her until she’s screaming through her orgasm again and I’ve spilt myself deep.
There’s no going back now. She finally needs me, and I won’t give her up, no matter what I have to do. I’m a gangster, not a hero…I’m allowed to break all the rules.
Thank you for reading Mad Max!
I hope you enjoyed Maximillian’s flawed, but edgy persona as much as I did. I knew Ismerlda had to be strong and independent so she’d feel empowered by Max rather than suppressed. Even though this is fiction, sometimes we need to be reminded that we can stand on our own two feet and, at the same time, it’s okay to break. It’s okay to open yourself up to be vulnerable, and yet put our foot down and say, “I’ve got this.” Thank you for reading my books. Through you, I’ve found a way to stand on my own feet. — Sapphire

Recipe
Not Your Momma’s Fudge
1 cup Irish cream liqueur (Bust out the Baileys!)
3 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup white chocolate chips
¼ cup butter
3 cups powdered sugar
1 ½ cups coconut (or marshmallows, or both)
Nuts are optional, but I’m nutty enough without them.
Directions:
Butter a pan. I use 8x8, unless I add a cup or two of marshmallows, then I use a bigger size. You can never have too many marshmallows.
In the top half of a double boiler melt the 3 cups semisweet chocolate chips, 1 cup white chocolate chips and 1/4 cup butter until soft enough to stir. I whisk it often, to keep it moving.
Stir/whisk in the powdered sugar and Irish cream until fudge is smooth. Fold in the coconut and marshmallows. Dump it all in your buttered pan and spread it evenly. Let cool and cover.
If you accidentally over pour the Baileys, toss all this in the blender. Add some ice and cream, or just ice cream, get drunk and try the recipe again. — Sapphire
