Which Micah had been all too gleeful to relay to him, to taunt him with. Cadmus cursed softly to himself. The magickal brain fog that he had been in had dulled his normal caution. He should have seen that Micah had formed his own magickal bond with Jordy.
Her death at the jaws of a magickal creature had reverberated through that bond, alerting Micah that something much more significant had been taking place than what Cadmus had been reporting. That Cadmus had deliberately kept hidden from His Terrible Majesty.
He was now being summoned, as Micah put it, because he had “some s’plaining to do.” And there was no doubt there would be some pain involved. Lots of it.
Followed by punishment.
Lots of it.
He gulped. And gulped again as he heard footsteps approaching.
Micah’s smirking form appeared. “He’s ready to see you now.”
Cadmus rose unsteadily to his feet, his suit trousers weighted against the seat.
Micah grinned, showing his teeth. “And he hasn’t been fed yet today.”
Cadmus’ legs continued to wobble, an uncharacteristic feeling blooming inside him. Terror. Sheer terror. He stumbled towards the door.
Behind which His Terrible Majesty awaited.
