I didn’t do anything; I was curious to see him in action. He took down two Absolutes easy, and then he finished off the ones that were after me. “We sure could have used your help a few hours ago” I laughed at how crazy this was, and turned to walk away. “What the hell do you want from me!! Nobody’s perfect!!” he snapped. I was attacked, and took all of my anger out on the unfortunate Absolute who attacked me at that moment. I beat his face in, with my bare hands, until there was nothing left.

I glared at my dad. He asked me a question, so I let him have it. “I don’t want anything from you!! I needed, not wanted, needed you for the past eight years!! You have no idea what I’ve been through!! No, wait, scratch that, we needed you a few hours ago when Victor was getting his back caved in!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. He just stared in disbelief and looked betrayed. He slapped me. “Don’t ever talk to me like that again, I am still your father!” he shouted. He grabbed my face to make me look at him. “You have no idea what I’ve been through, either. The torture, the starving, the constant interrogations, not knowing if my wife and kids were okay, people thinking I was crazy for years when I told them that help was coming” he stopped, and looked off into space, as if to find the answers there. “Eight years of being broken down, mentally and physically, all because of that locket. It was either that, or we’d all be dead. Then what?” he finished.

We fought off more Absolutes. We were both out of breath from yelling, and fighting. I don’t know if it was because I didn’t want to argue anymore, or because I understood where my dad was coming from. Maybe it was the last few minutes of one of our lives, and I didn’t want it to end that way. Maybe I just didn’t care anymore. Whatever the reason, I figured, what was done was done, no matter how we looked at it. “I’m sorry dad” I said. “I’m sorry, too.” He said, and hugged me. “They’re gone, my wife and boy are really gone” he said, as tears fell silently down his face. It was the first time that I saw my dad cry, ever. It was hurtful.

All of the pain that I had tried to numb down, resurfaced. I couldn’t afford it, not at that moment. I didn’t cry. “I can’t promise that everything will be okay, but I know that they will pay, for everything” I told him. Out of nowhere, someone grabbed my arm. I turned around ready to fight, but my grandmother embraced me before I mistook her for the enemy. “Let’s go” she said. She grabbed us, and before I knew it, we were underground.

Looking up, we could see everything, and everyone. It was as if we were separated by a glass floor. I stared in awe. “Stay here” she commanded. She found Sunny, Patience, and Gilbert. She pulled them down. I couldn’t see how it happened, all I saw was a quick flash of light, and then they were below with us. I watched from below as people fought off more incoming Absolutes. “Can’t we bring everyone down here?!” I asked, watching people fall. “It would take too long, and it is too risky” she said squeezing my shoulder. “Follow me” she commanded. We ran until there were no people or Absolutes above us, then came back above ground. My grandmother handed me the ring. “Take off the locket” she instructed. Down the field behind us, I could hear everyone. I took the locket from my neck and held it in one hand, the ring in the other. “Now what?!” I shouted over the wind as it began to pick up. “Shhh! Try to concentrate” she said, backing away from me. I closed my eyes, and tried my hardest to block everything out.

For a while, nothing happened, so I concentrated as hard as I could. There it was, faint at first, but then it grew. In all different languages, voices were chanting a word at the same time. I began to feel dizzy and lightheaded, and then I felt as if I had fallen off of the face of planet Abysmal. What was happening? I tried to open my eyes, but they wouldn’t open. The chants got louder, until I began to chant it. Abolish? What did it even mean? As I chanted the word louder, I began to feel it pulsing through my body. I opened my eyes, the wind was blowing as if a tornado was coming in our direction. There it was, right in front of me, a giant, purple whirlpool portal!

  Chapter Fifteen

The locket was gone, but the ring glower purple inside my hand. I felt all of the power from the ring radiating through me. Get through the portal!” I yelled over the wind as I put the ring on my finger. Patience, Sunny, and Gilbert ran through. My grandmother smiled, and winked at me before she jumped through. The look that my dad gave me, told me that he wasn’t going through. “You can’t do this alone!” he shouted over the vicious wind. “I never said that I could, I need your help!” I shouted back. We took off towards the people. The next thing that I knew, we were in the air. We were flying! I laughed as the wind rushed passed my face, it felt amazing! By now, my people were noticing the portal. That meant, so were the Absolutes! They made a run for it, fighting back as many Absolutes as they could. My dad and I plunged into the crowd. When we landed, we split up to cover more ground.

Absolutes charged at me left and right, but fell off dead when they came within five feet of me! That ring was very powerful. I flew back to the portal entrance; it was the best way to keep any Absolutes from getting through. People were pushing, shoving, and rushing through the portal as fast as they could. A few Absolutes tried to run in, but died when they came near the ring. That’s when I noticed it, when an Absolute died, the tattoo on their hand would vanish. Finally, everyone made it safely through the portal. I let out the longest sigh of relief I could muster up. My dad and I looked at the pile of now lifeless Absolutes in silence. “Ready?” I asked.

We turned to go through the portal. “Did you really think that I would just let you go?” a voice behind us said. I didn’t have to turn around to know that it was Abysmal. We turned around to see him. He was bigger, and stronger than ever. Veins popped out of his skin everywhere, and he had the rest of the Absolutes tattoos all over his body. They glowed a deep lava red. “That world also belongs to me!! Give me my ring!!!” he yelled. Abysmal began to float up off of the ground. My dad ran towards him. I watched him. I couldn’t stand to see anyone else hurt, and I wasn’t sure if my dad could take any more fighting. I didn’t want to risk it. “Dad no, you can’t fight my battles for me anymore!!” I yelled.

Abysmal laughed, but I ignored him. “No! you’re not doing this alone!” he snapped. “I’m not arguing with you, I love you!” I told him, as I pushed him into the portal. He tried to pull me with him, but the portal wouldn’t let me through. It was a defense mechanism, for me to go through, they all would have to be dead. I turned to Abysmal and held up my hand showing him the ring. “Is this what you want? You’ll have to pry it from my dead fingers!!” I yelled. He smiled, showing his spiky teeth. “This time, I won’t underestimate you” he said, slyly. We charged at each other, both of our battle cries coming from completely different places…

  Part two coming soon!!!
