I definitely wasn’t willing to get a cobra tattoo or anything like that.
“Then we have a plan,” Ryker said.
But then a shattering sound made us both break apart and look toward the table.
A glass that had been standing on it was now in pieces, which were everywhere, as if it had exploded.
What the fuck?
“Lexi, watch out!” Ryker yelled, but it was too late.
My gaze lifted to the shooter, who was pointing straight at me from the building across from us. I knew Ryker threw himself toward me to protect me, but he didn’t reach me in time.
Something hit me in the stomach, and it hurt like hell.
“Lexi!” Ryker yelled, his voice full of panic.
And then I found myself lying on the ground.
I reached toward the source of pain, and my hand came away with blood.
Ryker kept repeating my name but darkness was tugging at the edges of my vision.
I was going to lose him, wasn’t I?
My thoughts drifted away, and then I was swallowed into nothingness.
