My editor, several other authors, and what looks like a camera crew. A friggin’ camera crew?
Kayla takes my hand while I carry Skye on the other side. She leads me to Malachi.
“Malachi, what are we doing here?” I whisper after Kayla takes Skye from me.
“We are getting married. You look beautiful as always,” my husband says. His hair is just starting to grey. At forty-five, he is still the hottest man I’ve ever seen.
“We are already married,” I say, stating the obvious.
“Go with it,” he says, taking my hands in his and rubbing his thumbs over the back of my hands.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate the wedding vow renewal of Malachi and Mallory. Malachi will you start us off,” Daniel, one of the priests from our church says.
“Mallory, fifteen years ago, I pledged my love and commitment to you, but it seems like only yesterday. I promised to love you, honor you, comfort and keep you. I pledged to be by your side in sickness and in health, in times of want, and times of plenty, for better or worse, for the rest of our lives. We have had all those things, and you have been by my side as we created a family, a home, and a life together. Today, at the beginning of our fifteenth year as husband and wife, in the presence of the family we’ve created together and our friends who have been with us since the beginning, I renew my vows to you, pledging my eternal love for you, and I eagerly await what life may bring us,” Malachi says, wiping away the tears that have started falling. “Don’t cry, Jez.” I nod, but obviously my tears don’t stop.
“Very good. Mallory?” Daniel says.
“Well, I’m a little unprepared for this,” I say, getting some laughs. “I am so surprised you did this, but as luck would have it, I don’t need time to tell you how much I love you. When we went to Las Vegas all those years ago, I never once thought we were rushing into anything or making a mistake. I loved you from the moment I crashed into you in my hallway. I’ve loved everything about you and everything you stood—and continue to stand for. I have thoroughly enjoyed our life together. I am so elated that I get to continue life's journey by your side, where I am safest and so loved. Once again, I promise to love you, honor and keep you, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, for as long as we both shall live. Also, you’re gonna be a daddy again,” I say, smiling.
“Jesus Ma put a cork in it already,” I hear my comedian Kai say. I shoot him my best “mom look” and he shuts right up.
“Really?” I nod. He grins. “Father Dan, I’m gonna need to kiss my girl,” Malachi says.
“You may kiss your bride, again,” Father Dan says, smiling.
When he kisses me, it’s like the first time again. I see stars and I hear people cheering right along with our kids groaning, except my baby girl Skye. Her squeals of delight warm my heart.
“Ladies and gentlemen, once again, Mr. and Mrs. Malachi Goranson.”
He just keeps on kissing me.
I’ve been so blessed in my life. All my dreams came true and they continue to do so.
I’ll always be grateful that he let me love him all those years ago.
I will until the day I die.
