Vampires Bleed Too Page 5

by Jacey Ward

Cassie gasped slightly and Evander knew she was stunned by the size of him. He was ready to poke a hole through the material of his jeans, hands cupping the smooth skin of her ass.

A trail of blonde hair slid over his face as she lowered her mouth over the hot skin of his neck, pausing to inhale his aftershave.

“Fuck, Cassie…” he mumbled but she silenced him again with a hard kiss, her hands fumbling over the buttons of his crotch. Somehow, she managed to wriggle the material down along with his boxers and Evander was already standing at full attention, longing to feel the slick wetness of her core as it soaked through her panties.

So badly he wanted to sink his throbbing teeth into the sensual vein at her throat. He closed his crystalline eyes, willing himself not to do it. He was in enough trouble as it was, permitting things to go so far.

But, oh my gods, she smells fucking amazing…

Inadvertently, he bucked upward and she cried out at the unexpected movement, her blonde head tilting back and exposing her neck further. Evander’s fingers slid around the front of her thighs to slide the sopping underwear aside and let her heated center rest against his shaft.

Their eyes locked and Cassie bit on her lower lip, her face inches from his.

  “Are you sure—”

Again, she shut him up with her lips and sank down onto his throbbing length, enveloping the head of his cock.

Evander groaned loudly but it barely covered the sound of Cassie’s moans as her tightness sucked him in and swallowed him.

“Oh, fuck me…” he growled, fingers tightening around her so hard, he was sure he would leave bruises on her delicate skin.

But Cassie didn’t seem to care at all and slowly, deliberately, she began to rock against him, bringing him deeper inside her.

“Yes…” she moaned and if her heart had been hammering before, it was about to explode out of her chest now. It was all Evander could do not to succumb to his inherent urge to bite the luscious veins of her neck as Cassie’s movements quickened. Again, he steeled himself, reining in the shredded chains of his control tightly.

“Y-you’re so damn big,” she choked, resting back against the steering wheel. She pressed his hands against her full, ripe breasts. Her teeth sank into her lower lip, her eyes glazing over and suddenly, she was riding him with vigor. The cries escaping her lips made him crazy and his fingers twisted against the rigid skin of her hardened nipples.

You won’t bite her. You won’t bite her. You won’t—

The guttural moans became high pitched screams and he couldn’t bear it another second, his sack tightening almost painfully as heat shot through him.

In unison they exploded together, his rod slick with her juices as his own filled her completely. Cassie’s nails dug into his chest, gasps still emanating from her mouth as she fell forward, the energy sucked from her body as she slowly came down from her high.

Her movements slowed until she lay fully on his chest, her pulse racing wildly still.

“Your heart is barely beating,” she murmured after she had caught her breath. “I’m about to pass out and you’re cool as a cucumber.”

Evander didn’t know how to explain it to her so he laughed it off instead.

“Maybe you killed me,” he murmured, his fingers twining through her hair. He was stunned to see that his fingers were trembling.

Have I ever trembled after sex before?

If he had, he certainly couldn’t remember it.

You’re just caught off guard. Yes, she’s hot but nothing can happen with you two. Kalen will have your balls on a skewer if he ever finds out about this.

It should have been enough motivation to push Cassie off his sweating body but Evander made no move. He was relishing the feel of her warm form against his, the scent of her Chanel perfume in his nostrils.

“Sorry I jumped you,” she mumbled and Evander had to stifle a laugh. “I just haven’t felt so…good in such a long time. And I haven’t wanted… a guy, like that, well, ever.”

“I’m not complaining,” he told her softly.

“We can’t tell Circe about this.”

Evander exhaled slightly and nodded even though her head was still planted firmly against his chest.

“I don’t think she’ll be too happy with me for letting this happen,” he agreed with some relief.

  “Evander…”

  “Hmm?”

  “Thank you.”

He peered down at her as she raised her head.

  “For what?”

“For making me feel useful today and not dismissing me as some hysterical woman.”

Evander’s eyes narrowed. He tipped her chin up so she was looking directly into his eyes when he said what he wanted to say.

“You don’t have to thank me for that. You are useful. Some asshole is after you, but soon, you’ll be back to making your own decisions. Until then, just let me keep you safe. Okay, Sunshine?”

A soft smile touched her lips and she nodded.

“Well I guess I can let you lead,” she replied with a shy grin, tilting her head up to kiss his lips. He eagerly returned the kiss, and pulled her deeper into his embrace.

We might agree with one another, Evander thought, but Kalen will end me if something happens to her. I need to keep my dick in my pants and focus on this job.

But even then, Evander knew he was lying to himself.

They fell into a groove that shocked Evander. He’d never wanted to share his personal space with anyone before and the idea that a mortal would have a place in his posh condo was bizarre but it was impossible not to lose himself in Cassie’s sweetness.

Both their phones stayed off and they remained entangled in one another, whether naked as Evander whipped up his gourmet meals or in the double seater jacuzzi on the second floor.

Evander was sure that the memory of Cassie’s damp tresses encased in white bubbles would forever be etched in his mind, something which made him slightly melancholic.

This is a bad idea and not just because she’s a client. Developing feelings for her won’t fare well for you in the long run. You’re too different.

But no amount of reason nor logic could stop the situation from snowballing and each moment that he spent with Cassie, Evander knew he was falling for her more deeply.

“You look lost in thought,” Cassie told him softly the next day. Neither of them had slept a wink between the various sexual exercises and as the sun climbed over the building, they lay in each other’s arms, staring at one another sleepily, entertaining the idea of sleep for the first time.

“Do I?” he asked casually. “I must just be enthralled by your beauty.”

She scoffed and whacked at him with a goose down pillow.

“You know I’ve heard every line known to mankind, right?”

Mankind, yes, Evander thought with some grimness. You haven’t heard half of what I’ve got though.

He didn’t share these thoughts aloud.

“So, every time a man looks at you, he must be trying to get in your pants?” Evander asked, pulling her closer toward his body. The warmth of her skin against him caused his slow-moving heart to pump with unusual ferocity and the feel of her pulse was tantalizing him in ways he found almost disturbing.

I could turn her right here, right now.

He inhaled sharply, steeling himself from doing it. He was already in enough trouble as it was. Turning Cassie would open up an entirely new level of trouble.

No matter how tempting it was with the pulsating beat in her veins.

He closed his eyes and steadied his breaths.

“In my experience, yes,” Cassie replied to his question. “I haven’t met many men who have been kind to me just because they want to help me.”

Evander sat up and peered into her classically beautiful features.

“Is that your way of telling me that you feel used?” he asked gruffly, his defenses up. To his relief, Cassie shook her head and laughed gently.

&
nbsp; “Not in the least. It’s…different with you. Maybe I’m being naive but I feel really connected to you…safe for the first time in months. I haven’t been able to let myself go for a long time, Evander.”

He studied her expression silently, weighing the sincerity on her face.

“I don’t do this kind of thing with clients,” he told her earnestly.

Especially not mortal clients, he added silently.

  “I believe you.”

Her eyes met his and she grinned.

“I know you’re worried about what Circe will say when she finds out but you don’t need to worry about her. I’m an adult and I can take care of myself.”

Evander froze at the mention of Circe.

If she tells Circe, Circe will tell Kalen and I’ll be spinning around in purgatory for the rest of eternity.

“You have to promise me not to say anything to Circe right now,” he told her quietly. “Not until we figure out what’s happening with you. She’ll see it as a violation of ethics and she’d be right.”

Cassie sat up, the silk sheets slipping over her full breasts and Evander couldn’t help but stare at them in awe. She was exquisite from head to toe.

“Do you really think it’s that big of a deal?” she murmured uncertainly and Evander felt a stab of guilt as he read what she was thinking all over her face.

She’s wracked with insecurities. I have to be careful not to promote her worries.

“We’ll get to the bottom of what’s going on with you soon,” he promised, opening his arms to embrace her again. Evander buried his face into the depth of her sweet-smelling curls and inhaled deeply.

Cassie’s body relaxed against him and he traced the lines of her skin with his fingertips comfortingly.

“I believe you,” she muttered, dropping her ear against his chest.

“Good. I wouldn’t let anything happen to my newest employee, after all,” he teased. Again, her head bolted up and she gaped at him in surprise.

“You would let me work with you?” she asked in shock. A spark of nervousness touched Evander’s gut but he forced a smile.

“Who knows what will happen in the future,” he replied lightly. He knew there was no way in hell that Kalen or Circe would permit the innocent Cassie to do such dirty work. It was bad enough that he’d allowed her to come with him once.

  “You know what?” Cassie sighed.

  “What’s that?”

  “I’m starving.”

Evander chuckled and reluctantly allowed her to slip out of his arms.

“Well, I can’t stand between a woman and her appetite, can I?” he teased. “I think I’ve got the fixings for fajitas. What do you say?”

Cassie cast him a warm smile.

“I say I don’t know how I ended up with the only bodyguard in New York who can cook like Wolfgang Puck and fuck like a porn star,” she replied deviously.

“Only the best for Circe Lancaster’s models,” Evander joked and Cassie swatted at him.

  “Hey Evander?”

  “Hm?”

Their eyes met and he read an appreciative sadness in her eyes.

“No matter what happens here, I hope you know that I’m grateful to have you on my side.”

“I’m happy to be on your side,” he assured her gruffly, leaning forward to kiss her gently.

We’ll work it out, Evander told himself firmly. One way or another, we’ll figure it out.

  Chapter 6

“I’m still in New York, Lisette,” Cassie told her assistant. “I’m just keeping a low profile for a bit in the wake of everything that’s happened.”

She eyed Evander who nodded. His naked form was barely covered in a sheet as he propped himself up on one arm, peering at her with an almost impish glint in his eye. Her body was still aching from the kaleidoscope of sexual activities he had put her through over the past two hours.

“Well, is there somewhere I can send you mail at least?” Lisette sighed. “I was getting worried about you when I didn’t see or hear from you.”

“You can run things from my place for now,” Cassie replied. “If this becomes an ongoing situation then you can come where I’m staying.”

“No,” Evander countered flatly but his tone was low enough that Lisette couldn’t possibly hear. Cassie scowled at him and waved him into silence.

“But where are you?” Lisette sounded exasperated. “I’m worried about you, Cassie.”

“You don’t need to be,” Cassie assured her. “I’m in good hands.”

And she meant it. She had never felt safer than in the past three days she had spent with Evander. There had not been one weird message or encounter as if whomever was stalking her had been scared off by Evander.

Or I’m well enough hidden, fifteen blocks from my own place that he can’t find me.

“All right,” Lisette said begrudgingly. “As long as you’re safe, that’s all that matters. I…guess I’ll keep everyone at bay and say you’re on vacation and don’t want to be disturbed but Cassie…”

“Hm?” The model was barely listening as she examined her lover through her peripheral vision. He stretched on the stark, white sheets like a cat, his muscles rippling in every direction.

God, I’m wet for him again, she realized with some embarrassment. It was impossible to imagine that she had another orgasm left in her after all Evander had put her through.

“There’s a blind item in the Times about the murders.”

  Cassie’s blood ran cold.

“What?” she snapped, her eyes shifting completely away from Evander’s nude frame. “What do you mean?”

“Just what I said. There’s a hint that something’s going on with you.”

“With me?” Cassie echoed, hurrying out of the bedroom. Evander exclaimed in confusion but she ignored him and headed to the laptop in the living room, quickly logging on to dig up what Lisette was talking about. It didn’t take her very long to find.

“Shit,” Cassie muttered. “I have to call you back, Liss.”

“What happened?” Evander demanded but no sooner had he spoken did his cell ring. He grunted when he picked up the phone from the dining room table where it was charging.

“Something tells me I’m about to hear about it,” Evander grunted. “Hello?”

Cassie gritted her teeth, half-listening to the PI as he took the call, wandering back into the hall in only his boxers.

The item was blind but it was undoubtedly about her.

What blonde CK model has a stalker and a trail of blood in her wake? Where is CS anyway?

She was furious. Circe had promised that there would not be any publicity about whatever was happening but logically, Cassie knew that Circe could have nothing to do with the gossip piece. It was her company at stake, after all.

But if not Circe then who? Lisette? That doesn’t make any sense—she’s in just as much danger as I am. I saw how scared she was when the threats starting coming in. She wouldn’t want to call attention to herself any more than normal.

Evander stalked back into the living room and tossed the cell back onto the table.

“Get dressed,” he growled, his good mood dissipated. “We’re going out.”

“Have you seen this?” she demanded, pointing at the screen. “Someone—”

“I know,” Evander replied. “That’s why we have to go to my office. I have more resources there than I do here.”

Cassie nodded and rose quickly from her chair. For the first time she realized she was still naked and she didn’t miss the look of longing in his eyes.

“Well, maybe we can wait one more minute,” he mumbled, reaching for her. “Come here.”

Cassie started to protest but she knew her resistance was futile. She wanted him as much as he wanted her.

He danced her backward, parting her cheeks as he raised her into the air and lay her onto the surface of the table, his mouth buried in the flesh of her skin.

“You’re going to break me,” sh
e warned him, sighing, but making no effort to push him away.

“You want me to stop?” he demanded and her answer was to dig her nails into the smooth skin of his broad shoulders, her legs wrapping around his waist.

Evander’s head dropped lower, pausing to sample each inch of her prickled skin before pausing to nuzzle the round, full breasts.

“I want to devour you,” he told her, his hot breath causing her skin to explode in gooseflesh again.

“Eat me,” she pleaded and he chuckled, his laugh a low, almost sinister growl. Her ankles ended up draped over his shoulders and locked as Evander dipped his face against her soaking core. She was intensely sensitive from the days of lovemaking, her body raw and aching from all the action but from somewhere, she discovered a deepening pool of excitement.

He really is going to kill me, she thought but the notion didn’t deter her in the least. Cassie bucked upward, her swollen clit meeting his waiting mouth and she groaned with pleasure-filled pain as he latched on without pausing. His tongue lapped with hard strokes and Cassie quivered, knowing that it would take mere seconds to bring her to the brink.

He knows me already. He knows where to touch me, how to make me come…

His tongue slid over her and she moaned loudly, again arching up to allow his hands to cup her cheeks. Her hands locked into his dark curly locks, tugging gently, encouraging him to keep going.

He sucked gently on her clit, causing her to moan loudly. Her fingers curled along the sleek table top, searching for something to grip as the swell of desire rose through her body and she cried out, suddenly too sensitive to let him finish but before she could wriggle away, the impending release spilled forward and without missing a beat, Evander was on top of her.

  God, he’s huge!

She didn’t know why it continued to surprise her but it did. She choked back another cry as he filled her deeper than she thought she could take.
