Nestled in black velvet was a five-carat, cushion-cut diamond ring, sparkling underneath the moonlight. It could’ve been a cracker jack ring made out of plastic ties and I still would’ve made the same decision with no hesitation. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”
War slid the ring onto my finger, placing me on his knee to get a better look. “Beautiful,” he said, pulling me in for a kiss. “I love you, Kelsey.”
“I love you too,” I said, wrapping my arms around his neck. He would have a hard time getting me to let go. “Promise me you won’t leave me again.”
“I took over an entire borough to make sure I’ll never have to.” My jaw dropped, eliciting laughter from him. “How did you think I was able to buy you this ring? Or that apartment right up there, so you can look at this view every night? I been putting in work, grinding like crazy, making a name for myself.”
“All for me?” I asked, flattered.
“Mmmhmm,” he said, giving me another kiss. “All for the only girl I ever adored.”
