Susan gazed across the table at him. “You saved both Abe and me by disarming Bonaventure. That was very brave of you. If you hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t be sitting here today talking about this.”
“Thank you, but you probably think that all this talk about neurosis and dream analysis is just psychoanalytic mumbo jumbo. I’m glad I got to tell you about it though, especially about my own symptoms. I hope it doesn’t make you think that all analysts are just in the business because they’re neurotic themselves.”
She looked up at him, a broad smile on her face. “Not at all. I’m just thinking that maybe I need to learn more about psychoanalysis. I didn’t really believe in unconscious motivation or the unconscious for that matter, but you’re living proof that it exists.”
“So my own pathology is what may convince you that I’ve been right?”
She raised her eyebrows. “Maybe. Understanding you is going to be a challenge Doctor Farquhar and I think I’m going to need all the help I can get.”
“You mean this relationship is going to continue?” he asked, a look of surprise on his face.
“I think so, doctor.”
“Then you should start calling me George.”
