Generation Page 17

"I love you," Daq whispered. He leaned down and pressed his lips over mine.

In the real world, Wes spiked my neural implants. A wave of electric pain moved through my nerves, buring it's way from the base of my neck down my arms to the soles of my feet and back. In the void, I thrashed in Daq's arms. He held me tighter.

A gentle force pushed out from him, covering me in a soothing wave that pushed the pain away. I gasped through the pain and pried my eyes open to look at him. The void disappeared, replaced in an instant by Mt. Victoria. The mountan itself didn't scare me anymore, but the pain the rocks raining from the sky could bring would feel very real.

"We have to get out of here," I whispered. "It's not safe."

Daq dragged a hand across my damp brow. He reached down for my hand and sqeezed again. "It's not real, Tam."

A rolling clap of thunder from the mountain answered. It sounded like Jackson's voice.
