“You my sesser,” she says softly.
“Yes, I’m your sister and you are mine, Catlin Neveah. My name is Samantha. Call me Sam if you want.”
“I don’t have to go back to that place, do I? I don’t like it there. It’s loud and has a lot of other kids. They mean some of dem. I don’t like ’em.”
“No, sweetheart. You’ll be living with me. Okay?” I tell her, smiling with tears running down my face. I hiccup with a sob or two.
“I’m so happy you’re my sister. I can’t wait to show you your bedroom,” I tell her.
“This here is my soon-to-be husband. His name is Brett. He will love you like a big brother. Is that okay with you?” I ask her.
She looks at Brett with big eyes. Looking him up and down, she whispers, “He big. He realz big,” she states with big round eyes.
“Yes, honey, he is really big, but he’s a big teddy bear,” I tell her with a smile.
“Cans we go now. I ready,” Catlin says.
“Yes, we can go. We have to pick up your things, then we’ll be able to head home. How does that sound?” I ask her.
“Yep. I go nows, Ms. Jackie,” she tells her.
Catlin Neveah has a hold of my hand and is pulling it. She continues until I stand up. I pick up the folders Jackie has for me. We signed the papers last night so they have them already. We get up and leave the building. We pull around, getting the rest of her items. We had bought a new car seat for her and she is strapped in like a big girl.
“I donna want to stay. Letz go now pease,” she chatters in the back.
“You are with me, kiddo. Nothing will take you away,” I tell her.
“You likes ice ceam? I do. Chocolate. Can we get some?” she asks.
“Have you had breakfast yet?” I ask her.
“umpy stuff. I don’t like it,” she tells us.
“You mean oatmeal?” I ask her.
“Umpy stuff. No good,” she replies again.
“We’ll stop and get you something really good for your tummy before you have any ice cream,” I tell her.
“Otay,” she tells me.
I look at Dog. “She’s going to need some speech therapy,” I tell him.
“Yes. She looks just like you, Samantha. Spitting image. I can’t believe it,” I tell her.
“She does, doesn’t she?” I say with a smile.
“We’ll stop and feed us all before we head back. It’ll be later tonight when we get home. So, I would suggest the house but Bossman has said lockdown so we need to go to the club,” Dog tells me.
“We need to be safe. Either place is fine,” I tell him. “We have the bunker at the house but I don’t want her scared all at once. I think if we stayed at the clubhouse it may be better.”
We stop and eat at a local restaurant with Rock and Spider joining us right after we sit down in our seats. I scoot over and wave for them to come sit with us.
“Neveah, these are some friends of ours. This is Rock and Spider. Can you say hi?” I ask her.
“Hi,” she states as she looks at them both. “You sit ‘ere. Wit me,” she calmly states as she points to Spider.
“You sit here ater wit me,” she tells Rock while pointing her finger at him. He smiles at her.
“Let me sit here now,” he tells her.
“No, he cute,” she replies. Rock laughs.
They both smile at her as they laugh out loud at this and tell her hello.
“What do you want to eat? Do you know?” I ask.
“I want ancakes. Stausage too,” she tells me.
“Okay, we’ll see if they have some. Sit down fella’s. The little princess has spoken on where to sit,” I tell them.
We all sit and visit, eat and get ready to head out. Neveah already has them wrapped around her little finger. She is so damn cute. I love her already.
Epilogue
Dog…
The days have blended together. We haven’t been able to locate Nick and we have feelers out for him. Catlin has settled in at both the clubhouse and house. We have been going back and forth between the two. I’ve gone back to work, and Spider and Rock have helped with watching the girls. Samantha has decided to take some time off work. We have only had one other call from Crane. He said he had several leads. We told him about Nick’s disappearance but he wasn’t too concerned about him.
I finally officially asked Samantha to marry me and she said yes. We’re planning a small intimate wedding at the clubhouse in three months’ time. We are praying that Crane will be back with us by then. Samantha wants her dad to give her away.
Between all of it, we have grown stronger in our relationship. I now talk to her about what’s going on with not only her dad but some of the other stuff too. She is a very strong lady. She keeps praying for her dad to come back home soon but until we find out who is after not only us but Bossman and Jenny too; we need to be careful of where and what we do.
Neveah has been growing by leaps and bounds and has the happiest disposition I have ever seen with a kid. She has all the brothers wrapped around her finger. Whatever she wants, it seems to magically appear in her room here at the clubhouse or her room at home.
She loves to sit on everyone’s lap, but like I said, her favorites are Spider and Rock. I hope she understands things when her dad returns.
My phone rings as I am contemplating everything. I pick it up and answer, “Hello.”
“I don’t have—time, I have—information. Watch—for a female. It’s—wife of—I’ll home . Make—to lock it down–I get there,” I hear Crane trying to tell me through a bunch of static and him cutting in and out.
“I’m coming home to my daughters.”
The End
Author’s Note
As with any book, sometimes things dry up. The characters argued with me over what was going to happen and I struggled a lot with this book. After four failed attempts and letting them have their way, they decided to talk to me. Although Dog and Samantha are an item and they will stay that way, I feel that there may be more to their story. I think may have more coming their way in other stories. I would hope that with Crane’s story, more of Samantha and Dog’s story will come to light. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. They are both very strong-willed people who have been dealt a lot of shit. I see a lot of stories coming forth in this series. I have listed in the front of the book a list of characters and hope you will continue to follow along with me. I have another book with Vera Quinn releasing soon as well as two Christmas stories.
Welcome to the arguments of my mind.
