“Sure. My friends are coming over. Is that okay?”
“Of course.”
“Can Zane spend the night?”
She turns back to me, one eyebrow raised. “As long as he sleeps down here on the couch.”
I laugh. She does, too. It’s weird, her telling me what I can and can’t do again. But it’s good.
We’re both pretending, a little. But that’s okay.
“I love you, Mom.”
“I love you, too, hero.”
I head out to the foyer, grab my bag, and climb the stairs to my room.
I let the Logos recede to the back of my mind. Sun, sun, sun… Quieter and quieter, until I can’t hear it at all.
I don’t need it.
I’m exactly where I should be.
