He leans forward, sliding his scruffy jaw against mine. When his lips press against my ear, I leave my eyes trained blankly on the wall behind him. I can’t bring myself to do anything except stare, my eyes catching on nothing. My vision blurs around the edges as I lose focus, then quickly regain it, before I lose it once more. It’s like my mind can’t concentrate on one thing at a time, and it’s trying to play catch up with my senses.
His tongue drags across my ear, but still, I feel nothing. I can’t even muster enough energy to feel the anger and disbelief I know I should feel, when he whispers, “It was your mother.”
