“Take a bite, Daddy!”
I laugh, taking the bait. I pick up one and take a big bite into the vanilla frosting. Inside, there is a blue filling.
“Get it?” Jessa asks.
“They are delicious.” I offer the rest to Ginger, who takes it happily.
“The blue means it’s a boy, Josh,” Jessa says, groaning. “Get it? We’re having a son.”
The biggest smile breaks out in my face. “A boy?”
Ginger jumps up and down, frosting on her face. “A brother!”
I give Jessa a kiss. “God, this is amazing.”
Jessa laughs. “Go on, eat the second one.”
I frown, confused. “You can have it, baby.”
She smirks. “No, go on.”
I do as my wife asks and take a bite. This one is filled with pink frosting. “Uh, I think there are some mixed messages.”
Jessa just takes the other half of the cupcake, taking a bite for herself. Then she kisses me, frosting lips and all. “No, Josh. We’re having twins. A boy and a girl.”
I drop my head, chuckling. “Okay, not sure how I missed that — but Jessa, really?”
She nods, her eyes filled with happy tears. “I’m so happy,” she says. “We are going to have three little ones.”
“They are already the loves of my life,” I tell her, kissing her softly — this woman, who has spent the last six years devoted to me, our family. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world to have her as my wife. “But truly, muffin compares to you, Jessa.”
