Dead Girl Found Page 32

by Giles Ekins

So, there you have it, the truth!’

Thank you for telling me Chloe’, said Jeremy gravely ‘but in view of David’s appeal. I think it best that nobody ever gets to read your story, don’t you? Or should I call it a confession?’

  ‘If you like’

  ‘So, it isn’t all bollocks?’

  No, it’s not all bollocks.

Chloe put Jeremy down on the bed and picked up her iPhone. She scrolled down the photographs until she came to her favourite image, the one of herself and Julia Jarrett, arms around each other, laughing into the camera. She kissed the photo.

‘I promised you babes, didn’t I? I promised to avenge you and I did. Sorry about your Mum, though, that was never intended but, then, you two never got on anyway, did you?

Sleep easy now, babes. Sleep easy.’

Chloe put down the phone and wiped a tear from her eye before picking Jeremy up again and clutching him tightly to her breast.

‘I thought life would be better, that things would be better once I’d taken revenge, that I’d get some catharsis and satisfaction, but it isn’t, is it?

‘Even after all that, life is still shit, isn’t it?’
