My beautiful Labradors don’t get such luxury when it comes to bedding and cuisine, but they are the most spoilt dogs in the world when it comes to love (no, seriously, I will not get soppy about my friends, but when it comes to my dogs, my heart is fully and completely on my sleeve).
Have you ever had an embarrassing experience with a selfie stick?
I don’t actually own a selfie stick so no, but I’m going to take a guess and say that I’d probably not be a natural with one. They look very tricky to control and, considering recently on a tennis court I hit myself in the face with my racket when I went to pick up a ball, I think I should probably avoid any contraptions that are even more technical.
Where did the inspiration for Hotel Royale come from?
I’ve always loved and been fascinated by Grand Dame hotels, and Hotel Royale itself is a real mix of research into my favourites, but the first idea came along when Country Life magazine asked me to write a feature on The Ritz London hotel. I got to stay the night there, meet the staff and witness how it all works behind the scenes first-hand. It was the most incredible experience – the team works so hard and the skill is that guests never notice. Everything is simply perfect already, without anyone having to ask.
Like a lot of Grand Dame hotels, there is a real maze of corridors underneath the hotel and some of the staff have worked at The Ritz for years, as have their parents and siblings – like Cal, some of them told me they used to help their parents at weekends when they were little. It really is like a wonderful, big family there.
That made me wonder what it would be like to grow up in such a beautiful, magical and entertaining place as one of London’s Grand Dame hotels and Secrets of a Teenage Heiress was born . . .
What’s next for Flick?
