“Tyler, don’t be dirty,” I whispered.
“I’m not dirty,” he said. “But what you were doing, darling…”
My eyes went wide, and my cheeks burned hot.
“Oh, my,” Jeff said. “Uh… maybe I should get started here then…”
Jeff began to talk, announcing our love.
Tyler leaned in and put his lips to my ear. “I can’t wait to fuck you again, darling.”
“How romantic,” I whispered.
“You get that romance for the rest of your life, darling. If you just say the right words…”
“I do,” Harper called out right on cue.
Tyler backed away and smiled.
When it was his turn, he called out, “I do.”
We were then married again and there was no turning back.
Jeff had the rings ready, even though the entire wedding was done out of order.
I finally got to kiss my husband again, which felt like a lifetime.
Everyone cheered.
We hugged as we both laughed.
It felt so right.
“I know those weren’t the words you wanted to hear,” I teased as we walked down the aisle.
“Oh yeah?” he asked. “What were the words I wanted to hear?”
I leaned into him. “Fuck me.”
Tyler smiled.
I always knew exactly what to say to him… it was my job as his wife, right?

(Tyler)
MANY MONTHS LATER
I walked up to the car and stared down at the driver.
He looked nervous. And pissed off.
He looked at me and had guilt written all over his face.
“You look familiar,” I said to him.
“Oh?”
“Do you have any idea how fast you were going?”
“If I tell the truth, do I get out of the ticket?”
“No.”
“Then I don’t know how fast I was going, Officer. I was just driving.”
“You were doing almost double the speed limit. What’s the rush?”
“A good song came on the radio,” he said. He shrugged.
“License and registration,” I said.
He handed me his information and I stood there, staring at him.
“You look really familiar,” I said.
“This isn’t first time we’ve met,” he said.
“No?”
“You pulled me over before.”
“Well then… how’d that work out?”
The man smiled. “Your wife showed up and let me go.”
I snapped my fingers. “That’s right. So, you got out of one ticket and now here we are again. No way in hell you’re getting a warning this time, buddy. Sorry.”
“I understand. How’s your wife?”
“Great,” I said.
“She seemed a little irritated last time.”
“When you’re married to me, irritation is part of the deal.”
The man laughed. “I’m divorced. Irritation only goes so far.”
“Thankfully she loves my dick,” I said. “I’ll be right back.”
I made it two steps before my phone buzzed.
I dug into my pocket and checked.
This was where we were at.
Every text. Every call.
I had to check.
And there it was.
BABY TIME!
I hurried to call Harper.
“Tyler?” she asked.
“It’s time?”
“Yeah,” she said. “My water just broke.”
“I’ll be right there.”
I ended the call and stepped back to the man’s car.
I handed him back his license and registration. “Lucky again, buddy.”
“What?”
“My wife just went into labor.”
“Oh, shit. Well good luck, Officer.”
“If I catch you speeding again, I’m going to cut up your license.”
I ran to my police cruiser and kept the lights on.
I threw on the siren and gripped the wheel tight.
I had been in dangerous positions in my career and my life, but nothing made me feel like this.
For nine months I had been taking care of Harper in every way possible. I had spoiled her head to toe. I had cradled her belly and talked to my unborn child. We agreed not to find out what we were having. The suspense drove us wild, but that was how we did things.
Our love life had been just as intense too.
I loved her every second I could take her, including this morning before my shift. All she had to do was mention that sex could help induce labor and I pounced like a hungry lion. And damn could she still go at it too. A few times, she made me feel like I was being used. But I was fine with it.
Use away, darling…
I sped to the hospital.
Everything was about to change again.
I went from caring about her to marrying her to loving her…
Now I was going to be a father.
I held the little boy in my arms and didn’t know what to do or what to feel.
Harper had officially become my hero for life.
Watching her have our son was something I’d never forget. If she thought I had been spoiling her now she had no idea what was in store for her.
She brought life into the world.
She brought my son into the world.
There was never repaying that. There was never thanking her enough.
“He’s perfect,” Harper said as she sat up in the hospital bed.
She had more energy than I did.
“What should we name him?” I asked.
“After you.”
“No.”
“Why not?” she asked.
“I want this guy to be unique. His own person. He needs his own name.”
“We can think of something,” Harper said.
“How about Max?”
“Max?”
“Yeah. That’s the name of the guy I pulled over when you text me. It’s fitting, right?”
Harper smiled. “Max. I love it. It’s perfect. Our little Max.”
I looked down at the baby. “Our little Max.”
He had my forehead. Or fivehead…
He had Harper’s little button nose.
He had Harper’s lip line.
He had my lips.
He had a smell cleft in his chin, which made me think of my grandfather.
A perfect little guy.
I kissed his forehead and gently placed him down.
He was swaddled up tight with a powder blue hat on his head.
Cap had brought over a little department beanie, but it was too big for his head.
Joey cried when he saw Max, which made me wonder why the hell he was crying so much. Then he told me that he and Joanie had been fooling around a lot since the wedding. Kordell just smiled and shook his head, wondering how in the hell I was a father.
I thought the same thing myself.
But I was a father. And a husband.
I lived my life in a way that if I saw something I wanted, I went for it. Because you never knew when your last moment was coming. I had the scar on my right leg to prove it. Doctors said I’d need a cane and I proved them wrong. They told me I’d have a limp and I proved them wrong again.
I had too much to live for and too much to love to worry about anything else other than what was right in front of me.
I kissed Max’s little forehead again and then inched my way into the hospital bed with Harper.
She put her head to my shoulder and sighed.
“Wild ride, darling,” I whispered.
“Yeah,” she said.
“Now we wait.”
Harper looked up at me. “For what?”
I raised an eyebrow. “You know what.”
“Tyler…”
“You look so fucking hot right now, Harper,” I whispered. “I want to devour you. How long is the wait
?”
“Six weeks, at least,” she said.
“Damn.”
A second later she punched my arm. “And that’s what’s on your mind right now?”
“Did you expect anything else from me?” I asked.
Harper slowly smiled. She leaned up and kissed my chin.
She shook her head and sighed. “No. You’ll never change.”
“You’ll never want me to change,” I said.
“True.”
I pulled her close and heard Max let out a tiny whimper.
I really had everything to live for.
I loved my wife and my son.
And so the six week countdown began… until I can savor Harper’s perfect post-pregnancy body and make sure she fucking realized she was even more beautiful now.
THE. END.
Hey darlin’ … or maybe I should say hey, love…
I’ve gotten a lot of questions about the JL Caid name, and it’s really simple and honest to answer: these are the stories that I have in notebooks that aren’t based on my life. As you know, when you read a ‘Jaxson Kidman novel’ you are entering a world that means a lot to me because I write about events that have happened in my life. BUT… there are other ideas and stories to come to my whiskey laced mind that aren’t based on my life. So I wondered what to do with those stories.
That’s where JL Caid came from, darlin’. What you just read was an ‘insta-love, over the top romance’ which is what the story was meant to be. I truly hope you enjoyed it. Because quite honestly, there’s another story coming… about the boy next door who was good looking and teased his neighbor because he always liked her. Except now, they’re both adults. And what happens… well… you’ll have to find out. Make sure you look for LUCKY KISS.
