The other bounty hunters studied him with renewed interest. “Big enough to build a training base and keep it out of the public eye?” Leira asked.
“Forget the public eye,” the man added. “It’d have to be big enough and hidden enough to keep the department’s greedy little hands out of it.”
Johnny smirked. He likes the Bureau as much as I do.
“Sure. More than enough room for a hundred kids, a few bounty hunter drill sergeants, and completely off the radar.”
Brownstone nodded. “I’ve never been to the Everglades.”
“Best place on two worlds,” he said.
Leira looked thoughtful. “It sounds like a horde of magical kids might feel the same way. Including your Amanda.”
“Yep.” Johnny sniffed and glanced from one to the other. “So we’re entertainin’ this, then?”
“With a few extra bugs to work out,” she said with a crooked smile. “But sure.”
Brownstone shrugged. “Sounds simple to me. Exactly the way I like it.”
One day, they’re going to learn to leave this dwarf alone. Apparently it’s not today. Join Johnny, Lisa, Amanda and the coonhounds on their next adventure in ALL DWARF’ED UP!

Author Notes - Martha Carr

There’s a unique writer’s challenge that happens every November known as NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month. Writers attempt to write a fifty thousand word novel from the first of the month and stop on the last day. The popular novel, Water for Elephants was the product of a NaNoWriMo challenge and was even turned into a movie.
I remember when I thought that writing a novel in a month was impossible. Now, I do it every month and then some. The turnaround turned out to be a product of using some good software to help with an outline and changing my mindset.
That last part was really key.
It’s so easy to look around at what others are doing, or not doing and decide based on that alone what I’ll be able to do.
That’s called contempt ahead of information. I make up my mind, and worse, make decisions based on observation rather than actual data. I could even make it look like I was collecting info by surveying friends’ opinions and arguing with myself, but none of those were sources.
It’s amazing how often I’ve had arguments with myself and come to a conclusion without noticing I was the only one in the conversation.
Accurate information from several angles would require asking questions of professionals, trying a few ideas and struggling through what doesn’t work to get to the other side. It turns out that it also takes courage because I can’t know how things will work out. No control mixed with a good dose of trust.
Boy, was that not my specialty in the past.
I was so tied to a particular outcome and so afraid it might not happen that I barreled forward without doing the groundwork. A good idea might have actually worked if I’d taken the time and done the footwork and had some patience.
Fortunately, I wore myself out and became willing to try a different way. I stopped trying to control everything and started listening. Turns out a lot of people thought I was capable of writing a book in a month and for some reason I listened and gave it a try. That was the start of the Leira Chronicles just three years ago.
Yeah, it surprised me too. It also made me wonder what else I could do if I just let go of deciding what I could do before I even tried. Turns out listening as if my mind could be changed could really add up to positive change and a lot of books. And even better, a bigger life.
Another weird twist – it took just as much courage to walk into that bigger life. More adventures to follow.

First, thank you for not only reading this book but these Author Notes as well!
The year is almost done. For us here in America, the final day of voting is tomorrow (Nov 3), and then we get to deal with the fallout.
Hopefully there won’t be any more political phone calls. The ONLY person I know who lives in the state of Florida is Steve Campbell. However, I get calls from Florida (not from Steve) daily to as many as five? Seven?
All I know is TOO MANY.
I’ve voted. I’m done. I got a call just five minutes ago from Florida, and without thinking too hard, I picked it up.
My mistake.
On the other end was silence. I thought I could hang up, but then a pensive voice called, “Hello?”
“Yes, hello? This is Mike, how can I help you?” Slight pause on my side then, “If this is a political call, I have already voted, thank you.”
“Uh…thank you?”
“Bye!”
I’m not really sure what the person was responding to. The question of whether this was a politically based call or saying thank you for voting. Either way, I was off the phone and getting prepped to write this author note, and now I had a subject.
Presently, I live right outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, almost the length of our country away from Florida, and I have no idea which side or for what agenda the phone call was being made.
I’m just glad to be free, both living in a free country and presently free of any obligation to talk to a soul about voting because I’m done.
This is the first time I can ever remember voting early. Just for the ability to tell political phone callers, “My vote has been cast,” and then hang up means I think I’ll vote early again next time.
I hope YOUR end of 2020 is fantastic and enjoyable!
There is an old commercial series where the punchline is “We’ll leave the lights on for ya.” (Motel 6).
Here at LMBPN, just know if you need to get away from life for a few hours, “We will publish another book this week (or six) for ya.”
