Shadow Hunter (Court of Life and Death Book 2) Page 23

“Why didn’t you say anything?” I frowned, touching his cheek. “I had the same questions. We could have gone through all that together.”

Syrion shook his head. “No, you had more important things to worry about, darling. You had Earth, the fae realm, Kalian, the council. I didn’t want to be another thing on your mind, or yours either.” He looked to Daath. “I wanted to do this myself. Perhaps it was foolish and immature, but I felt like it was the best option.”

Daath nodded. “I understand. I’m just relieved to know now.”

“Whatever else you need to find out,” I smiled, “we’re ready to learn with you.”

Syrion smiled back. “I think I’ve learned as much as I can for now.”

“Except how to get to the Upper World,” I sighed.

“Actually…” Both Daath and I perked up at that. “I’m not quite sure, but I have an idea. There was no way I was going to try to do that without telling the two of you, though.”

The onyx eyed King grinned with pure adrenaline and clapped his brother on the shoulder. “Syrion! My brother, the King of Life, why didn’t you say so sooner! Fuck, try it right now!”

“No,” Syrion laughed, shaking his head. “No. It’s quite late. And tonight, I want to celebrate our Queen.” He smiled and took my hand, bringing it to his lips.

Daath relaxed and looked at me lovingly. “You have a good point.” He leaned in and kissed me softly. I blushed as the two turned their attention toward me and smiled.

“I love you two, so much.”

Syrion kissed the top of my head. “We love you, darling.”

A sense of completeness ran through my body, and I was almost positive they could feel it too. We’d all had our own questions about our places in the universe that we’d been trying to answer, and now, together, we each understood. We were ready to play our roles and guide our Kingdoms, and we were ready to do it together.

None of us would be complete without the other. Daath needed Syrion as much as he needed me. Syrion needed us both, and I sure as hell needed both of them. And I would have them for all eternity, through life, through death, soul and spirit.
