I didn’t know what was going on. But I knew it was bad. Who was after him? What could they hold over his head to control his temper? Carmen. I peeked in the door; Carmen was dancing with my sister. My eyes scanned the room. I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary.
Me and my team wore earpieces. Dominic didn’t tonight because it was his party. He needed to enjoy his reception. At Tony’s party, all the guys wore earpieces except for Tony. We had to continue to watch our backs even if the war was over.
I tapped my ear piece. “Tony, come in.”
“Yeah.”
“I think someone is watching us through the large window. Check it out. But don’t draw attention to yourself.”
“This ain’t my first rodeo.”
Silence fell between us. I couldn’t rush into the room. I couldn’t ask Carmen to step off the dance floor without alarming her or whoever was watching us.
“Got the slimy motherfucker. He had a sniper rifle and he was just ordered to blow the place.”
My fucking heart sank.
“We don’t want to draw attention to the situation. I don’t know who’s working against us. They could still be here.”
“Got it. I’ll lock him up.”
“Ok. Tone.”
“Dillon, what do you want us to do?” Cruise asked.
I scanned the lobby then dipped into a room to my left.
“Cruise, have the team quietly find those explosives. One more thing tell Alexandria my mother wants to see her. And send Carmen to me. I’m inside the room immediately to her right when she steps outside the room.”
“On it.”
The door opened. “Dillon,”
I sat on the table in front of two cream round plush chairs. Carmen stepped inside. Brian and Hugo followed.
“Why are you two here?”
“Dom, told us to stay with Carmen.”
Shit, he would never send both his guards away. They didn’t wear earpieces tonight because their only job was to watch Dominic and Carmen.
“You didn’t think to tell me, he told you to do that?
This is not sunny fucking California. This is New fucking Jersey. He can’t go unprotected.”
Brian clenched his fists and exhaled. “He said one of your guards was on him.”
My eyebrows wrinkled. “Which guard?”
He dropped his head. “I took Dom’s word. Dillon, what can we do?”
They needed to be retrained. They’ve lived in Cali too long.
“Search the building for Dominic. And don’t draw attention to yourselves.”
“Right away.”
Carmen stood before me. Sadness encompassed her face.
“What’s going on Dillon?”
“Someone attempted to blow up the entire building.”
Her hand flew over her mouth and her eyes widened. “Oh my god!”
“Keep your voice down. We don’t know if the guy we found in the courtyard was working with anyone else.”
“Dominic went to find you. You didn’t see him?”
My face tensed. “He found me. Then he began talking like it was the last time he’d see me. He insisted I return to the party. He walked toward the kitchen.”
I tapped my ear piece. “I need one guy to walk through the kitchen. Tell me if you find Dominic.”
“I’ll check,” Marcelo stated.
“Did you find the explosives yet?”
“No,” Cruise said.
“Check the vents in the reception hall. Have one of the guy’s shield you. We don’t want to alarm the guests.”
“Ok.”
“Romeo, check surveillance.”
“Dillon.”
“Yeah, Tone.”
“No, need. Al here sang like a fucking bitch. Angelita Terenzio.”
“Terenzio’s daughter. What would she want with Dominic?”
“What’s her first name?” Carmen asked.
“Angelita.”
She gaped.
“That psycho bitch was upset Dominic wanted nothing to do with her. Sal asked Dominic to date her years ago.”
“My grandfather and his greedy fucking ways. I doubt he saw this coming. Do we know where he’s being held?”
“Yeah. Terenzio’s storage warehouse.”
“Dillon, we found the explosives.”
I blew out a breath.
“Good, keep the situation contained.”
“We got it handled, Dillon.”
“Thanks, Cruise.”
“Tony, bring the package and meet me at my house.”
“Got it.”
I tapped the ear bud.
“All right. Carmen. Tony and I will find Dominic.”
“Not without me you won’t. I won’t slow you down. Dominic taught me how to handle myself. I don’t live far. I just need to change and grab my weapons.”
“Seriously?”
“Fucking serious.” She glowered.
CARMEN
There was no way I’d let them attempt a rescue without me. A hundred thoughts ran through my mind.
Would she hurt him? Why couldn’t she leave him alone? Why was she obsessed with mafia royalty?
Riding down the street in the all black Suburban. I counted my magazines, then slipped them into my black bullet proof vest. I loaded my two Desert Eagles point five zero then shoved them into my shoulder holsters.
Dillon peeked over at me a few times. He loaded his four Glocks.
“Your Desert Eagles are nice, but they don’t hold enough bullets.”
I flashed a devilish grin, then reached into my duffel bag, retrieving two gray Glocks. “Oh, its ok I came prepared.” I slid the Glocks into my waist holster.
“I brought my silencers just in case.” I grabbed the Bowers Vers fifty suppressor. It was fat and long. Dominic’s cock flashed into my head. No dirty thoughts Carmen. It helped to focus on the good times than ponder on the bad and expect the worst. I needed to remain calm.
His eyes widened. “That’s one hell of a suppressor.”
I chuckled. “I know.”
“Carmen, our life doesn’t bother you?”
“Of course, it does. But I wanted to be with Dominic. I agreed to follow him into the flames.”
“Damn, that’s love.” He massaged his beard.
“I questioned my actions a few times. But I loved him. He was so nervous when he told me the history of this family.” I placed my suppressor in a slender pocket on the sleeve.
“He said he asked Sal, if he could be a part of the family business. I guess he overheard your conversation with your uncle Mick. So, he always knew you were supposed to be the Don. Didn’t stop him from wanting the power.”
He nodded. “I had no idea he knew.”
“Once we rescue Dominic you two need to go on a male bonding retreat. I think you both are harboring a lot of secrets. I know he loves you. It’s just still kind of hard for him to wrap his mind around not having you in his life for fourteen years. Then you walk back into his life. He looked up to you. Dillon, you were his hero.”
“I wish we could develop that bond again.”
I placed my gloved hand over his. “You can. I believe in you two.”
He smirked. “Thanks, Carmen.”
Tony rolled to a stop up the street from a large building. “One second Sebastian, I’ll put you on speaker so Dillon and Carmen can hear you.”
Tony hit the button on his cell.
“Sebastian, go ahead.”
“Hey, guys, I’m going to get right to it. I was able to hack and loop the surveillance cameras. But I can’t get you guys eyes inside. You all are going in blind. The good thing is they won’t see you guys coming.”
“Sebastian, thanks. We appreciate it.”
“No problem, Dillon. Carmen, I wish I could do more.”
“We are grateful. Did you see Dominic?”
“No, the cameras are mainly pointing at the entrances. He’s possibly being held near the center of the warehouse.”<
br />
“All right, Sebastian. We’re going in. I’ll let you know how it went.”
“Ok, Tony.”
Dillon, Tony, and I were dressed in all black, lightweight cargo attire.
Our back up was parked further up the block.
The three of us crept toward the building. Tony picked the lock. We drew our weapons. Dillon stood behind me.
“Carmen, stay close.”
I nodded, holding my Glock close. The Desert Eagle would be the last weapon I draw when I see her face again. Screwing on our silencers, we crouched down, walking along the perimeter.
Dillon and Tony placed their arms around a few of the guard’s necks, squeezing until they passed out.
“Fucking kill me already, Angelita. Put me out of my misery. You have what you wanted. To see me broken and alone,” Dominic snarled.
I peeked around Tony and the steel orange shelf filled with boxes.
Angelita laughed. “I have pictures of you leaving her apartment, hand covered in white dust dripping blood. You were unhinged. I keep those pics to remind myself what a man would do for so called love. What happened?” She kneeled between Dominic’s legs, rubbing his thighs.
My hand tightened around the Glock handle. Dillon tapped me and shook his head no. I wanted to blow her brains out. She led Dominic to believe we were dead.
“What do I have to lose?” He glanced at the ceiling. His bruised face was blue and red, covered in blood.
“She said she slept with another man. My anger got the best of me and I plunged my fist through a wall.”
“So, you took her back after she cheated on you? Sounds like desperation.”
“Nothing desperate about it. I knew my woman and she wouldn’t ever cheat on me. She’d only ever been with me.”
Angelita stood and clapped her hands. “I never thought you wanted a virgin. You had no problem sticking your cock down my throat, in my pussy. Even in my ass.”
I swallowed a silent gasp. Hearing her talk about all the ways he had her. It stung my heart.
“You knew I was fucking other girls in high school. Stop acting like I was only fucking you. Angelita, you weren’t my girlfriend. What did you think I was doing in college, holding my dick? Nope I was fucking as many women as I wanted to. You know why, Angelita? Because I was single.”
“Why did you choose her?”
“I’m done talking.”
The back of her hand fell across his face. “Tell me,” she roared.
“Because she was innocent.
Sweet, innocent and mine.
Mine to do as I pleased,” he growled.
“Fuck, why can’t you see? She didn’t give a shit about my money, my political family, and she damn sure didn’t care to get caught up in this fucking underworld,” he spat.
“She wanted me. She loved me. The unhinged me. God, just kill me.” He dropped his head. Tears mixed with blood trickled down his face.
I couldn’t take it anymore. She wanted to break him and she succeeded.
I leapt forward. Dillon grabbed my arm. I shook my head. He fell back.
“Angelita Terenzio, bravo.” I gripped the Desert Eagle and Glock and strutted toward her.
She glanced over her shoulder, chest heaving, foaming at the mouth.
Four men stepped forward.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you. The building is surrounded.” My guns pointed at the two men standing on either side of Dominic.
Dominic’s head rose. “Carmen?”
“Yes, baby. I am here. I came to save my Mafia King.”
“Angelita, you had the nerve to call Dominic desperate.” I looked around. “You are the desperate one. I mean who the fuck goes through such drastic measures to profess their love for another woman’s husband.”
She crept like a cat toward me. “You were supposed to be dead,” she hissed.
She reminded me of a barbie reject.
“Good thing, Dillon figured something wasn’t right. Angelita, it’s over. He never wanted you. You need to accept defeat.”
“No!” she yelled like a certified crazy woman.
“I’m taking Dominic and we’re walking out of here.”
“You will not.” She glared at the men standing on either side of me, holding guns to my head while I kept my Desert Eagle trained on hers.
“Kill her!”
“Drop your weapons,” I heard Tony yell behind me.
I cocked my head to the side. “You didn’t really think I’d walk in here with no real back up?” I laughed and flashed a joker grin. “Of course, you did.”
I peeked to Dominic’s right and pulled the Glock trigger. The bullet released from the muzzle, slamming into the man’s heart. Slowly, my eyes flashed past her and I squeezed the Desert Eagle trigger. The bullet released from the suppressor penetrating the other guard’s chest. Guts splattered all over Dominic.
Dillon and Tony shot the men on either side of me.
Dillon walked toward Dominic.
“Perimeter check, Cruise,” Tony said.
“Secure,” Cruise stated.
I didn’t make eye contact with Dominic. Dillon held him up as they walked past.
“Carmen, you don’t have to kill her. We’ll handle it.”
Dominic kept repeating, we’ll handle it.”
I slid my weapons in my holsters. “Let’s play.”
She ran full force into my stomach, knocking me to the ground. “I hate you!” she roared.
Her fist slammed into my cheek.
I laughed hysterically. “Is that all you got?”
Her eyes turned dark. She threw another punch. I blocked her fist. Grabbing her by her shirt, I tossed her off of me.
I hopped to my feet, in a fighting stance.
She stood raising her fists, glaring at me. “I can’t wait to kill you.”
“Not to day bitch!” My fist slipped across her face.
She stumbled back, laughing. Angelita stood and swung her leg. I caught it mid air and slid my foot under hers. She fell to the ground. Angelita reached for her weapon as did I.
Dominic screamed in the background, “No!”
“I am the mafia princess.” I pulled the trigger. The bullet released from the Desert Eagle, splattering her brains all over the concrete floor.
The ends of my lips curled upward.
“It’s over.” I exhaled, turning on my heels.
“Baby, it’s far from over. You killed the daughter of a made man.”
Dominic’s face tensed.
He glanced at Dillon and Tony. “I will take the blame. No one can know she pulled the trigger.”
“Understood.” they said in unison.
“We’ll have a sit down and work it out. Cruise, did you hear Dom?”
“I did boss. We’re on our way in to clean up.”
“Put her on ice. I need to talk to Terenzio first.”
Dominic pulled me into his arms. “I’m happy you are alive.” He breathed in my ear.
I never wanted him to let me go.
I clutched him tighter. “Through the flames, Dominic.”
He stepped back clutching my face. “Through the fucking flames, baby.”
CHAPTER SIXTY-FOUR
DOMINIC
Dillon called a mandatory meeting between the Magarelli men.
Dillon sat behind grandfather’s desk. I sat in one of the two chairs on the other side.
Grandfather sat on the leather sofa arms stretched across the top. He wore a scowl across his olive complected face.
Before the meeting, I cleaned the blood off of my face, but the blue and red bruises remained.
“Dominic, what happened?” my father asked. He sat in the leather chair across from the coffee table, puffing a cigar.
Tony sat across from my father.
“Dillon will explain.”
Dad and grandfather listened intently.
After Dillon concluded. Dad jumped to his feet.
“What the fuck!”
r /> “Dominic, were you fucking around with her?”
“No, Grandfather should I tell him, or should you?” I sat back in my chair.
My father sat, turning to grandfather.
“What I only told you to date her. Not fuck her head up.”
I leaned forward. “That’s hard to do when that woman planned to have me as her husband the entire time. She asked her father to come to you and arrange a meeting between us. It was her plan all along. You saw the meeting as an opportunity to have major use of the storage facility, cutting out the four families.
I did what you asked. I dated her. She always talked about us becoming mafia royalty. That’s why I came to you and flipped out the way I did. I had to break it off.”
“Dominic, you didn’t have to wait years to end it.”
“End it? There was nothing to end. I was away at school the majority of the time. I only saw her on various occasions. And every time I stressed; we weren’t a couple.” I pointed to my head. “But in her mind, she didn’t see it that way. She thought as long as I was coming around, she and I would eventually tie the knot.
After I told her I couldn’t see her anymore, she threatened me. I warned her she better think about what she was saying. I kept an eye on her over the years. And apparently, she kept an eye on me too.”
“Dominic, you should have come to me the moment she dreamed up this fairytale land between you two.”
“So, I should have told you after our first date? Because that was the first time, she mentioned it.”
He dropped his head in his hands. “Shit!”
Grandfather exhaled. “Ok what else happened?”
