I fished the key to Familiar Place from my pocket and slid it in the lock. “We’re going to get you cleaned up. How does that sound?”
Ratchet’s eyes widened as I opened the back door. He leaned in and sniffed the place. The raccoon nodded. “I’d say it sounds all right.”
I took a step in and gestured for him to do the same. “Welcome to your new life, Ratchet. I think you’re going to like it.”
He appraised the store before smiling up at me. “You know, I think I will. Can’t wait to get started living it.”
I grinned to myself. “I can’t wait, either, Ratchet. I can’t wait.”
