“Yeah, I’ll just bet you do.” The look on Rick’s face changed to one of malicious anger. “You goin’ back to Joe now or what?” The thought had just occurred to him, and fury flooded his veins.

But Midnight shook her head. “He and Randy are back together,” she said simply, refusing to be drawn into another argument about Joe.

“So what’re you going to do?” he said, confused now.

Midnight laughed sarcastically. “Believe it or not, I did just fine before I met either of you.”

“Griffin?” Rick asked, anger still prevalent in his voice.

“Rick,” Midnight said vindictively, “if you’re looking for someone to blame, look in a mirror.”

Rick had no reply to that one. He knew she was right. He walked out of the room, closing the door quietly behind him. Midnight stared up at the ceiling with tears in her eyes as she fought the urge to run after him. Her anger and her pride held her there, making her burn with the desire to find Sheila Theland and kill her slowly and painfully. Rick’s infidelity was bad enough, but Randy’s betrayal of Joe and of Midnight herself was unbelievable. Midnight didn’t know how this was all going to turn out, but she knew she’d take care of her own, no matter what treachery was rising.
