“Then how did you come to end up in the Void?” I asked.
He looked at Asterion. “The Charybdis sent both Asterion and me into the Void, but it was another angel that set the trap that landed us in that cage. I suspect that angel was Azrael. It wasn’t until Sendais let it slip that the Herald had been killed and brought into the Underground City that I knew it was you, Lily. The plans I made needed to be altered.”
“So, that’s it?” I asked. “You set us up to find the pieces of the key and to guide us down a specific path, but someone was always getting in the way?”
“I was the Angel of Prophecy for a time before I became the Angel of Salvation,” Uriel explained. “I knew only what my maker allowed me to see, just as you have visions of what might be true.” Uriel sat back down. “When you died, I was the Angel of Death, and yet I did not reap your soul. Why do you think that is?”
My head was spinning, but I knew the truth. “Because someone didn’t want the two of us to meet when you had the power to change things.”
“Precisely. Now, I am merely Uriel. I am an archangel without a title, no rank, and no weapon. I fear if I return to the Kingdom, I would be hunted just as the rest of you are.”
“We may still have allies in a few places,” I replied. “There’s still hope.”
“Let us pray those allies are still alive. If Alaire is aware these allies aided you in the past, they might have been captured, like your aunt.”
The group fell silent for a long time.
“So, does anyone know what the recipe for a Blade of Purification is?” I asked.
“I know the recipe,” Uriel responded.
“Okay, and?”
He nodded. “It will require the crowns of the Seven Princes, the Urn, the golden apple, and the sword you currently have strapped to your hip,” Uriel said with a smirk. “You have already come across illusions of a few princes during the Trials. But, be warned, the real things are far more deadly.”
“Beelzebub, Mammon, Lucifer, Belphegor, Asmodeus, Leviathan, and Sathanas,” Bill repeated.
And in his voice there was nothing but loathing.
