Break Me: Dark High School Reverse Harem Bully Romance (Sapphire Bay High Book 1) Page 17

by Naomi Martin

I can’t find it in my heart to forgive him for what he’s done. But I’ll be eternally grateful for the fact that he stepped up and did the right thing when it mattered the most. He could have run and with his family’s wealth, maybe lived out his days comfortably.

But he didn’t. He stayed behind and did the right thing. He sacrificed his freedom for my life. And I know if he hadn’t done that, I may have shared the fate of the nineteen lost girls. Without Owen stepping in to protect me, I may have just been one more statistic. A name forgotten in time. A girl whose story would have slipped from the front pages of the newspapers as soon as the next headline came along. A story eventually relegated to deep searches on the Internet.

Not that it erases or diminishes the other nineteen times he failed to do the right thing. It doesn’t, and he deserves to pay for that. But I’m profoundly grateful he did the right thing for me.

Apparently, Bonnie’s right – even monsters can have one saving grace.

  THE END
