Zombie Rain Page 7

by Zach Sweets

Rex lay on his back by the wall close to the bedroom door and he moaned in pain. Apparently, he'd hit the wall since there was a dent in it. I climbed down fast and shouted, "Rex! Are you okay?" I rushed to him and tried to lift him up.

He groaned and whispered, "What happened?" He must have gotten a good look at me because suddenly he freaked out. He started to shout. "Stay away from me! You were outside getting soaked by that funky rain!"

I was so hurt, more so as he pushed me away as if I was a stranger. "I feel the same as ever, honestly." I begged him to believe me, that I was still human, still me. The rain hadn't changed me. "Please believe me." I started to weep.

  "Whatever. Just stay away!"

Now Rex thought I was the enemy? I might as well jump off the roof. I couldn't do this alone, I just couldn't. I left him on the hallway floor and climbed back up the ladder to the roof. I couldn't believe this. We'd gotten so close, or so I thought. But hadn't he done this before? Reacted cruelly? I strode toward the edge of the roof just to see how far down it was. I took a deep breath.

I didn't hear Rex come up behind me, but as I was about to leap from the roof, strong hands pulled me back to land on the shingles.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Rex shouted.

"What's the fucking point of being here if you refuse to believe me? I haven't changed! I might as well jump off the roof and let you be in your own fucking panic. I can't do this anymore. I am tired of it." I pushed him away hard and went for the stairs. As I ran down, I missed a step and a loud snap came from my ankle. With the adrenaline rush, the pain wasn't noticeable and I charged out of the hour through the damaged front door. Thankfully, the zombies were gone, since in my blind race to get away, I completely forgot to worry about them. At this point, what difference did it make?

"Jake! Wait, I'm sorry," Rex pleaded from somewhere behind me.

His voice faded as I put distance between us. I ran and ran, until I couldn't breathe anymore. I didn't know where I was and didn't care. I just needed to be away from everything, from him. My own space. He had pushed me away, again. How many times did it take before I got it into my head that I wasn't important to him? I couldn't believe it pained me so deeply. I felt like a knife was twisted right through my heart it was so bad. Does that mean I love Rex?

Down the road, I saw a bench. Perhaps I could just stay there and let whatever was out there find me. I got there and sat, just thinking about how things had turned out. I leaned down to check on my ankle and it wasn't swollen or hurt at all. What the hell? I swore I had heard a loud snap when I went down the stairs.

I looked up when I heard sounds of loud panting. It was Rex. He looked like he'd run out of breath as well.

"There you are," he scolded. "I was so scared you'd do something dumb, like jumping off a building or something."

"Well, what difference does it make? You made it perfectly clear that you don't want me to be around you. You've rejected me more than once, and I didn't want to wander the place by myself. Killing myself seemed like the best option. At least I'd be done with all this shit," I snapped.

"Don't you dare do that again. I mean it." He got on his knees and touched my hands. "I couldn't bear the thought of losing you, Jake. I know I've been difficult, but it's a terrible situation. Seeing the rain water on you made me react without thinking. You won me. I th—think I love you." The "L" word was so quiet that I barely heard it.

"Wait…did you just say…?" He loved me?

"Yeah, I think so," he squeezed my hand tightly.

I was speechless again. I didn't know how to react to his declaration.

  "Say something."

"I don't know what to say. You definitely caught me off guard." I stared at him with my eyes and mouth open wide.

"Um, you love me back? That's something you could say." This time he sounded really nervous. He loved me, but his reaction to seeing me soaked from that water was rejection, not worry for me.

"You hurt me. Twice. I don't know if I even have the energy to love you back."

"I'm really sorry, I reacted without thinking." He rubbed my thighs as though that showed his love for me.

I pushed his hands away and stood up to look around. "Keep your hands to yourself. Let's focus on what's important, like what happened before we passed out."

He looked so hurt it nearly made me feel guilty. "Rex, I'm upset right now. It doesn't mean I hate you or anything like that. Let's just figure out what happened," I assured him.

"Yeah, I know. I guess I must love you that much to be so sensitive." He sat his butt on the ground, trying to remember what happened. "All I remember is that I saw the bright light from the zombie's shiny orange eyes. After that, next thing I knew, I was on the floor by the bedroom in some serious pain. I guess I fell through the roof door?"

"That was the only thing I remember. We need to find that thing and see if it is actually a zombie. I refuse to believe that this thing could do that to us."

"Me either. Oh, the rain—do you feel any different?"

"Um, no…well…yeah. I mean, I hurt my ankle when I rushed out of the house. I heard a loud snap but it doesn't hurt and it's not swollen. It's as if it never got twisted." I rubbed against my ankle to feel for any tenderness. There was none.

"So the rain prevents you feeling the pain? Maybe it's coincidence. I'm afraid to find out more about it." He stood next to me and looked down the roads. The sun was just starting to drop below the curve of the horizon, bathing the sky in fiery reds and oranges. The clouds were cutting across the sky, reflecting a pale pink in the glow. We watched it for a few moments before the sun disappeared and we were left in the dusk. "Despite what just happened, even with my stupid reactions, I'd say this is a romantic moment. Sunset and all." He sighed quietly.

I couldn't stand seeing him moping. I liked him a lot. I faced him, touched his cheek, and then kissed him softly. His eyes turned bright blue, shining with love.

He kissed me back and tried to push his tongue into my mouth. I opened for him, flush with desire. Our tongues wrestled. Before I really knew it, we had gotten rid of our shirts and I couldn't get enough of his big pinkish nipples as I bit, sucked, and licked him. He groaned, "Yeah, just like that. Harder, please."

I rubbed his furry chest and sucked hard. I slid down, following the golden trail and felt his cock harden. "Mm, you feel good."

He pulled me up and invaded my mouth again. I accepted every kiss. He paused briefly and it felt like the world was gone. "Rex, what's wrong?"

"After seeing the zombies, I'm more paranoid now." He chuckled nervously.

"Yeah, let's get back inside." I swept up our shirts and handed him his. I grabbed his hand and held it as we walked back to the house, keeping my eyes out for the dead-walkers.

It took us longer to reach the house than I expected. When we arrived, I inspected the front door; the monsters had completely destroyed it; there was no way to repair it. The garage door wasn't damaged, so I figured it might be safer to stay in there overnight.

Apparently, Rex came to the same conclusion. "Why don't you go up and get our stuff, and I'll get the food and drinks. We should spend a night in the garage. After the day we had, I think we'd better get some rest before we go look for another place to stay in."

"Yeah, good idea. On second thought, I think I'll take a quick shower to get rid of these spots on me from the rain."

"But, the water might be infected from the rain."

"It was already on me, so it probably doesn't matter if I take a shower now."

  "Oh. Yeah, okay."

I went upstairs straight to the bathroom and locked the door. That way, I'd be all by myself, even if it were just for a few minutes. I stripped down to nothing and stood right in front of the mirror, a little startled to realize that I hadn't taken a good look of myself since we left Delaware.

My hair was a huge mess. Normally, it'd be short and dirty blond, but now it was streaked with blue, pink, red, and orange from the rain
. I couldn't even see the obvious color of my skin, but it was usually lightly tanned. There was one huge difference I noticed—my eyes. Somehow, they had gotten brighter blue than usual; almost glowing, but not quite. I'm probably just imagining it. I chuckled a little when I realized how much I'd let my beard grow; my face was all scruffy. I needed a shower badly, and I turned on the water then hopped in. I nearly screamed because it was so cold since the water heater wasn't hooked up anymore. As quickly as I could, I used the soap bar and bottle of shampoo that was already in the shower that belonged to the previous owner. The shower lasted only five minutes.

I put on some fresh clothes I found in a drawer that belonged to the original owners. Then I gathered our belongings and headed back downstairs to the garage. Rex was already packing the food and drink in the back seat of the car. I put the rest of our stuff inside the trunk.

"Got the key for the car?" I asked.

"Oh, it's there in the cup holder." Rex pointed toward the front seat.

"Great." I started the engine and checked the gas. "It's nearly empty. I need to go back in the shed to get the gasoline cans we filled for the generator."

I went and brought back the two cans. Rex had already removed the filler cap and I poured the gas into the car until the first tank was empty. "Start the engine and let me know if it needs more."

Rex started it up. "Three-quarters full."

I poured more from the second tank until Rex let me know it was full.

Looking at the shelves in the garage, I noticed an air mattress on a top shelf. I pointed at it and called to Rex. "Hey, can you reach that?"

Rex pulled the box down and got the mattress out. It also had an air pump machine that had a power adapter for the car. "Did you bring the sheets or blankets from upstairs?" He asked. I shook my head. "Go get them. I'll take care of this."

There were sheets, blankets, and spare pillows in the closet down the hall from the stairs and kitchen entry. I took two pillows and blankets, skipping the sheets. The air mattress was ready by the time I came back with the necessities.

We made the bed and sat next to each other on it. As soon as we were sure everything was quiet and there was no sign of zombies through the windows, Rex broke the silence. "So…where were we?" he chuckled nervously.

"We were kissing, but you stopped," I smirked.

"Oh yeah, that's right." Rex grinned.

We met halfway and our lips touched. Rex let me in and my tongue swirled inside. I stopped briefly to murmur, "You'll look better without all the clothes." I smiled evilly.

We both stood up and while I watched him remove his clothes, I got rid of mine. My eyes went from his face down to his cock. "Nice." I grabbed it and pulled him towards me until our lips met.

I got on my knees with his cock pointed right at my face. It looked too tasty to not lick it. I stuck my tongue out, licking gently, and then guided his cock into my mouth. He was already leaking some salty-sweet pre-cum and I slurped all over his cock to make it as wet as I could get it. The more I sucked, the more he moaned. He sounded so sexy when he was aroused.

With all this hot action, zombies were the last things on my mind. It was just what I needed right now. He began to face-fuck me at a fast pace and I took his dick all the way down my throat without any problem. It was as if his cock was made for me.

His cock swelled even bigger. I was ready to take it all. He shot, hips thrusting, and I could feel the cum spurting to the back of my throat with every pulse. I kept his cock in my mouth, nursing it, until it finally began to soften.

"My fucking god, that was hot," he murmured. His eyes were glazed from that overwhelming orgasm.

"Fuck yeah, it was. Turn around and get on your knees." His ass tilted up for me as he knelt on the floor. My mouth watered. It was a beautiful furry butt. "You know…you have a gorgeous hole. Tasty and fuckable." I slapped his butt softly, but it was enough to make him yelp a little.

"You're making me crazy. Do something, please," he cried. He squeezed the blankets with his hands, his body tensed up.

I grabbed a bottle of lube, and then rubbed a squirt of it onto my cock. I rimmed him until he moaned, and then inserted my finger. He began to groan every time I pushed my finger deeper, so I pulled it out and added a second. After what happened earlier, I wanted to make sure he was comfortable and that he loved it.

  "More," he moaned. "Please."

"Be patient, silly." I continued loosening him up, finally replacing my fingers with my cock. I barely got in and his ass muscles tensed again. "Relax, just breathe it out. I won't go further until you relax."

He breathed slowly, pausing between each breath. Once again, I stroked his thighs, calming him. He gradually relaxed, and so did his hole. I pushed in deeper, as slowly as possible until my bush touched his ass. I stayed still, making no movement for a few seconds just to make sure he was fine. "You okay?"

"Yes, I'm okay. Don't stop." He continued talking, but it didn't make sense anymore. Apparently, he was overwhelmed with the feeling. I knew how wonderful it felt to be fucked.

After I heard him moaning, I knew it was the right time to start moving. I slowly slid out, then back in, matching his breaths, his moans. It had been too long since I had fucked a man. I wasn't able to hold it any longer and I increased my pace, pounding into him.

"Holy fucking god, don't you stop! Yes, faster!" He begged and moaned like an insane man.

As was his wish, I fucked him as fast as I possibly could. Impossibly, it seemed his hole became tighter and I couldn't stand it anymore. I shot a heavy load. I didn't even realize he had cum again onto the ground as he screamed.

As soon as I caught my breath, I held him tightly from behind, my cock softening inside him. I didn't want to let him go. Ever.

Oh, how I wish the world was perfectly fine without all the chaos. At least, no zombies had interrupted us this time. So far.

I kissed his neck and pulled him up onto the airbed.

We held together in silence, wishing it could be like that forever. My eyes were getting heavy and we needed to sleep really well.

  "Rex?"

  "Yes?" He sounded tired.

"Let's sleep. We need our strength before heading off."

  "Sure, night."

"Night, Rex." I held him until I fell asleep. My mind was too exhausted worry about what was happening out there.

  May 30

  A New Discovery

I woke up unable to breathe. I was choking and it felt like there was no oxygen. I gasped and tried to get Rex's attention. "R—Re—Rex. Puh—please wake up." I was choking after each word.

I went crazy and tried everything to get myself to breathe again. As I looked at my reflection in the car window, I noticed my eyes had changed color. They were always a bright blue, but now were an eerie, glowing purple.

  Fuck, I've become like them.

Rex was still sleeping by me. Please don't let him be dead.

The car windows shattered as light burst through like an explosion. Rex jumped and shouted, "What's going on?"

I tried to speak but I couldn't. I still couldn't breathe. Instead, I mouthed, help me.

Suddenly everything went black. I didn't know how long I was out but Rex woke me up, his eyes red and puffy from crying. I inhaled air as much as I could.

"I thought you were a goner, Jake." He struggled to speak. It sounded like his throat was raw from sobbing.

"Wh—what the hell happened? I remember not being able to breathe and my eyes glowed. Please tell me that was all a dream."

"No, it's all real. Your eyes are still glowing. I checked your pulse and you still have a heartbeat. You've got something, but it didn't make you a zombie. You somehow survived."

As I was trying to recall what he described, I looked around and found that we were no longer in the garage. "Where are we?"

"I had to take you away from there. We're a few miles out of town. It's a farm house in the middle of nowhere."

>   "How did we get here? I remember the windows shattered from the car. Is the car destroyed?"

"Yeah. The light exploded from you and completely damaged the car. I had to carry you to the truck next door and use the remaining gas to fill it up. I drove us here and figured it'd be best if we stay away from the town."

"Oh…wait, you said my eyes are still glowing?"

"Yeah, they glow a beautiful color but you're breathing normally and your heart is beating, so that mean you're still human…somehow."

"Is there a mirror around here?" I wanted to see what he was seeing. It was impossible, I hadn't been bitten or scratched by any of the zombies. As I was calculating the possibilities in my head, I freaked out. "Rex."

  "Yeah? I'm here."

"I think I know what caused me to be like this," I said, even though I wasn't able to grasp the fact in my head very well.

"What?" Rex sat in front of me, holding my hands.

"I think…I think it was the rain that made me like this."

"Shit, I knew there was something about the rain." He didn't let me go this time. "Look, we're in this together. I won't make the same mistake twice. I already told you I love you."

"Even if there's something wrong with me? You've been paranoid lately."

"I know and I still am. But you're still you. That's something." He kissed me softly on the lips. "I'm not letting you go this time."

"Did the rain touch you? 'Cuz you're different now too, Rex." I didn't know what to do at that very moment. Nothing made sense anymore. I was more afraid of what would happen to me next. I had nearly died from being unable to breathe.

As I got emotional, it turned out my eyes weren't the only thing that glowed; my entire body did too.

Rex backed quickly out of the room we were in. I was grateful that he got out before the light exploded from my body, because it shattered all the glass in the room. When the light faded, Rex came back in.

"That was the second time you've done that. The mattress saved me the first time."
