He cupped her cheek with a gentle hand. “Please stay. Tonight.”

“Nightmares?” It wouldn’t be surprising. She probably would have a few nightmares of her own. With everything that had happened since the battle, she hadn’t had a chance to process that fight.

“Yes.” Farrendel’s eyes searched Essie’s face. Maybe he could read the traces the battle had left there.

For now, she had tonight. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him.

He returned her kiss, his fingers easing into her hair, sending tingles down her back.

There would be no wounds to cut this kiss short. No conversations that needed to be finished. War was coming. There were traitors in both his kingdom and hers. Whatever else the future would hold, she wanted to face it with no regrets.

Time was precious. Maybe it was a human way of thinking about it, but Farrendel was no more guaranteed a long life than she was. Warrior that he was, he would be right there in the center of the battlefield when this war came.

They had two days. Essie didn’t plan to waste a single moment.

In a magical version of Regency England, scandals abound, especially the magical kind.

Rosalie Klampton is the daughter of a naval admiral. Her father has never been right after his head wound during the battle of Trafalgar, and only Rosie’s determination has kept her family together and out of the poor house.

When her father tears down the ugly rose draperies in the country house owned by the elusive earl of Warnwick, Rosie finds herself in service to the earl. He has his own problems, mainly the spell turning him into a beast, the fact that all the magical scholars in England haven’t figured out a way to break the spell, and the scandal being a beast has caused.

It will be up to Rosie to help Lord Warnwick navigate the social Season and evade whoever put the spell on him in the first place. Between the scandals and the French spies, working for an earl-turned-beast may be the least of Rosie’s worries.
