“Hey, Matt. Would you like to come to a party this weekend?”
“Sure.” He smiled, and it was like our souls aligned.
I could finally see the path I was meant to take.
Epilogue
That weekend, at my favorite tapas restaurant near the beach, I held a glass of champagne happily surrounded by my family and the spark of something new and magical. Matt and I got to know each other over the course of the week, on and off set. We had so much in common. He loved movies and music like me. He even loved the same kinds of drinks as me. I felt like we were meant to meet.
Toward the end of the night, Matt asked me to follow him toward the balcony overlooking the ocean. The moon was high above the water, glistening on the silky black waves. We stood underneath hundreds of golden fairy lights.
And then he bent down and picked up his acoustic guitar. I stood with my champagne, watching nervously.
“what are you doing?” I giggled, tipsy on fun and bubbles.
“Giving you your birthday present. I hope you don’t mind.”
“Why would I mind? And what is it?”
“I um… kinda wrote you a song.”
“You wrote me a song?”
“Yeah. Is that okay?” He meticulously tuned his guitar and strapped something over the frets. Then he began plucking away at the strings a beautiful melody.
All the noise of the party soon fell away as it became just him and me and the guitar.
Then his voice joined in. It was a little raspy, deep, but rich, like whiskey. He reminded me of long chats by the fire, or at a bar, old books, and real conversation. Everything about him was real.
And I could feel myself falling for him.
I never thought I would find myself falling for a man after Raven. I still didn’t know what I was sexually, but that didn’t matter. My soul had chosen for me.
I realized now that I had to take a journey of self-discovery and pain to get to where I was today.
I needed to find myself.
Although I wasn’t sure I had completely found her, the Lexi I wanted to be for the rest of my life, I was content and happy to continue to grow into the woman I would become in the future.
For now, I lived in the moment.
When the song ended, Matt went to take off his guitar, but I walked over and stopped him. I pushed his guitar aside and reached up and pressed my lips against his.
For now, everything was perfect, and this was exactly where I wanted to be.
