Chasing Romance (Welcome To Romance) Page 8

by Liwen Y. Ho

Deejay: Well, it’s not every day a celebrity moves to town. It’s nice to finally be known for something other than Sasquatch sightings.

Chase (chuckles): I heard about them. I look forward to running into one.

Deejay: You’ll have to come back and tell us if you do. All right, let’s get to the heart of this interview. Our listeners sent in their questions and I took the liberty of choosing thirty-six for you to answer.

  Chase: Thirty-six, huh? That’s a good number.

Deejay: The tricky part is running through them as quickly as possible. Don’t think too much; just say whatever comes to mind. Are you ready?

Chase (rubbing his hands together in anticipation): Yep. Let’s do this.

Deejay: Number one. What would be your one super power?

Chase: To be able to eat everything I want to without gaining any of the weight.

Deejay: If you could eat only three foods for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Chase: Bacon, of course, then apple cake and apple cider. Does that last one count as a food item?

Deejay: Sure. What’s your favorite smell in the whole world? Let me guess, apple?

Chase (smiles): Actually, it’s coconut, especially the scent of coconut shampoo.

Deejay: What do you like doing in your spare time?

Chase: Hang out with my friends and family.

Deejay: What is your best childhood memory?

Chase: The day I got my puppy, Sadie.

Deejay: What's your one annoying habit?

  Chase: Dropping my phone.

  Deejay: What's your favorite holiday?

  Chase: Valentine’s Day.

Deejay: What is your favorite color of socks to wear?

  Chase (checks his socks): Black.

Deejay: Would you rather live for a week in the past or the future?

  Chase: Definitely the future.

Deejay: Number ten. What trait do you like the most about yourself?

Chase: I go after what I want.

Deejay: What personal trait has gotten you in the most trouble?

Chase (laughs): Going after what I want.

Deejay: As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?

  Chase: A vet.

Deejay: If I gave you an elephant, where would you hide it?

Chase (shrugs): I wouldn’t hide it.

Deejay: If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be?

Chase (pauses to think): My four guitars and my phone.

Deejay: What would be a good theme song for your life?

Chase (grins): “I’ll Be There for You”, the theme song from Friends. Shout-out to the Rembrandts for that timeless hit.

Deejay: What is your favorite song?

Chase: My first hit song, “My Best Thing”.

Deejay: If you weren't a pop star, what would you be up to right now?

Chase: Probably opening up a bed and breakfast somewhere.

Deejay: Do you get used to being a celebrity?

Chase: Not really. I still have a hard time believing this is my life.

  Deejay: Who is your inspiration?

Chase: My mom. She raised my brother and me all on her own.

Deejay: Question twenty. What was the last picture you took with your phone?

Chase: Thor, my girl—my friend’s dog.

Deejay: If you could be any age for a week, what age would that be?

  Chase: Thirty-six.

  Deejay: Plane, train, or car?

Chase: Any of them as long as there’s enough leg room.

  Deejay: Pancakes or waffles?

  Chase: Both, of course.

Deejay: Roller skates or ice skates?

  Chase: Roller skates.

Deejay: Toilet paper, over or under?

  Chase: Over.

Deejay: Which of the seasons do you love the most?

  Chase: Fall.

Deejay: What’s the worst pick-up line you’ve ever heard or used?

Chase (laughs): Do you have a Band-Aid? ’Cause I scraped my knee falling for you. And no, I haven’t used it before.

Deejay: Would you rather go out for a date or stay in?

  Chase: Stay in.

Deejay: Who is your celebrity crush?

Chase: Rachel McAdams. I have a soft spot for strong, independent redheads.

Deejay: Would you rather date an older woman or a younger woman?

  Chase (raises his brows): Older.

Deejay: Long walks or long drives?

  Chase: Long walks.

  Deejay: Hugs or kisses?

  Chase: Kisses.

  Deejay: Are you single?

Chase (smiles): I am not single.

Deejay: So the rumors are true. Tell us, who are you dating?

Chase: A very special woman. That’s all I can say right now.

Deejay: What’s the right age to get married?

Chase: I think it’s more about the right timing and finding the right person than the right age.

Deejay: Last question: Would you date a fan?

  Chase: Absolutely.

Deejay: And we’re done. You can catch your breath now.

Chase (pretends to wipe sweat off his brow): Those were awesome questions.

Deejay: Thank you, Chase, for joining us today. We hope you’ll come back and hang out with us again.

  Chase: For sure. Thank you.

Deejay: Maybe you’ll bring your lady friend next time?

Chase (winks): I’ll keep you posted.

Deejay: And there you have it, thirty-six questions with Chase Lockhart. Don’t touch that dial. We have a special treat for you coming up next. Here’s your first listen to Chase’s new single, “Wait for Me”. You’re tuned in to 96.1, the Beaver Jam.

  Afterword

Thank you so much for reading Chasing Romance! I had such a fun time writing Chase and Izzy’s story and highlighting their age difference and passion for music. Chase was inspired by singer/songwriter, Shawn Mendes, and Izzy, by actress Rachel McAdams (who coincidentally is Shawn Mendes’s real-life crush!). Izzy’s dog Thor was based on my real-life fur-nephew who found his forever home with my sister and brother-in-law.

If you love Chase and Izzy as much as I do, you’ll be happy to hear they have a sequel! Be sure to read Holding Onto Love in Romance to find out about their Christmas Eve wedding.

She’s a small town inn owner learning how to trust. He’s a big time singer struggling to protect the woman he loves. Together, they must fight to keep their romance alive.

Being engaged to America's hottest pop star brings Izzy Sutton’s insecurities to the surface, making her question if she can handle life in the public eye. Complications multiply when her ex shows up on her doorstep two weeks before the wedding, with nowhere to live.

Through hard work and determination, Chase Lockhart climbed the Top 40 charts and won the hand of the only woman he’s ever loved. Helping Izzy overcome her cold feet, however, proves to be more challenging than expected, especially when he’s away on tour days before their wedding.

With their Christmas Eve wedding fast approaching, Izzy and Chase face the biggest decision of their relationship. Will they allow their circumstances to divide them or will they find enough reasons to keep holding onto love?

Holding Onto Love in Romance is the sequel to Chasing Romance, but can be read as a standalone story.
