After dinner, Preston takes me back home and leaves soon after to pack his bags and get ready for the trip tomorrow. I lock the door behind him and decide to start on my own packing. Inside my room, I drag out my overnight bag and start throwing everything I’ll need into it. I pack pajamas, some regular clothes, makeup, bathroom supplies, and all the jewelry and accessories I’ll need for the wedding. My dress is hanging in my closet inside a zip-up hanging bag. I don’t want to wrinkle it by shoving it into my bag, so I take it out of the closet and hang it up in the living room so I can grab it as I’m going out the door in the morning. After everything is packed and ready to go, I decide to get cleaned up. I fill the tub with hot water and bubbles before sinking down into it. There’s soft music playing in the background and the bathroom is dimly lit with scented candles.
I grab my phone and snap a quick picture of the bathwater. In the picture, you can see the swell of my breasts and my knee emerging from the bubbles. The waterline cuts off before you can see anything good. I send the picture to Preston with the caption: Tell Calvin about us and all this will be yours.
He sends back the gasping emoji and I giggle. I go to type out a response, but before I can, my phone is ringing and Piper’s name is on the screen.
“Hello?”
“Riley, I’m freaking out. I need you to talk me down because I don’t know if I can go through with this.” She sounds panicked and is clearly getting a case of cold feet.
“It’s a little late for that now, isn’t it? I mean, you’re pregnant with his child,” I joke.
“Stop joking. This is serious! I’m getting married. To Calvin!”
I quietly giggle. “Okay, just breathe. Everything is going to be okay. You love Calvin and Calvin loves you. And you guys have this little baby on the way. You’re finally getting your happily ever after, Pipes.”
I hear her take a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I know you’re right. I’m just freaking out. I mean, getting married is forever.”
“Is it though? I mean, it’s not like there’s no way out of it.”
“That’s not what you’re supposed to say, Riley! God, you’re as bad at this as Preston. I’m still convinced the two of you were made for each other. Hey, are you bringing your new guy to the wedding?”
“Oh, um . . .” I quickly try to think of something to say. Now I realize I never should have said anything, because Preston is going to tell them about us this weekend and I don’t want Piper to think I’ve just bounced from this guy to Preston. But I also don’t want her to think I’ve been lying to her either. “I don’t think so.”
“Ugh,” she groans. “I better get to meet this guy eventually.”
“If he sticks around, you will,” I promise.
“Okay, I guess I’m going to go cuddle up next to my fiancé and get some sleep before the trip. Don’t forget, your hotel room is already reserved and paid for.”
“Okay, thank you.”
“Bye, and be careful on the drive.”
“Bye,” I reply, hanging up the phone and sinking back down into the bath.
I wake in the morning and don’t bother dressing cute or doing much with my hair or makeup. There’s no point when I’m just going to be stuck in a car and driving all day long. Hopefully I won’t be making the drive back home by myself. With Calvin and Piper going on their honeymoon, Preston will be free to ride home with me, and hopefully we’ll no longer be hiding our relationship. We’ll be free to touch and kiss no matter where we are.
Before leaving the city, I load up my car with drinks and snacks. I blast the radio and eat breakfast as I make the drive. I sing along with the radio and munch on snack after snack. I stop way too many times to stretch my legs and use the restroom. Salty snacks aren’t good for road trips, because salt makes you thirsty and having to pee makes you stop. It takes me most of the day to make the five-hour drive to Piper’s hometown, but I finally arrive at my hotel.
I park the car and go inside. I’m given a key and I take the elevator up to my room. I drop everything in the middle of the floor and call Preston.
“Hey, did you make it?” he answers.
“Yes, finally.”
“Good. I was getting worried. We’ve been here for almost two hours already. What took you so long?”
I laugh as I sit on the edge of the bed. “Well, I thought I’d pack some snacks, but all the salt made me thirsty and all the drinking made me have to stop and pee a thousand times. But I’m finally here. What are you doing tonight? Want to come by my hotel room?”
He laughs. “I’d love to, but we have the big family dinner with my parents and Piper’s parents.”
“Oh, is it a wedding party thing?”
“No, it’s just immediate family . . . but I did tell Piper and Calvin about us.” I can hear the smile in his voice.
“You did?” I ask, excitement bubbling out of every pore.
“I did.”
“And?”
“Well, it took me the whole drive to work up the courage to do it. Every time I opened my mouth to tell them, I had this vision of Calvin getting so pissed, he wrecked the car and the bride and groom died in a fiery crash.”
I can’t hold back my laugh.
“I asked if it would be cool if you were my date.”
“And?” The fact that he’s only giving me one detail at a time is driving me crazy.
“And Piper seemed upset at first, but then she made some crack about me finding a way to sleep with the godmother after all.”
I laugh and roll my eyes. “You didn’t tell her that we haven’t slept together?”
“Nope. Seemed funnier this way.”
“So she was really upset?” I ask, confused, because she always seemed to be on our side.
“Well, I don’t think she was upset. I think she was just giving me shit because we’re her best friends and we didn’t tell her. I’m sure she’ll do the same to you when you see her.”
I nod. “Great.”
He chuckles. “So, with that being said, will you be my date to the wedding tomorrow?”
I smile at his words. “I would love to, Preston.”
“Good. I guess I’ll see you at the wedding then.”
“See you tomorrow,” I agree.
Instead of drinking and spending the night with the sexiest guy on the planet, I order some room service and eat dinner in bed. After dinner, I sink into a deep tub full of bubbles and let the jets massage the sore spots on my back. I grab a drink from the hotel bar and call it a night. I sink into the most comfortable bed in the world and crash.
My wake-up call comes bright and early. I eat room service breakfast in bed then pull on my wedding-day sweats before taking everything out to my car to make the drive over to Piper’s parents’ house.
As soon as I arrive, the two of us load up and drive to the church together, where the hair and makeup team will be getting us ready for her special day.
We hang our dresses in her private room and take a seat on the sofa as we wait for the team to arrive.
“So, you wouldn’t believe what Preston asked us yesterday,” she starts.
I scrunch up my face. “I wouldn’t?”
She shakes her head. “He asked if it would be okay if you were his date to the wedding. You know anything about that?”
I let out a long breath. “I’m sorry for lying, Piper. We just didn’t want to jump the gun. We wanted to make sure everything worked out before we brought everyone into it.”
She nods. “So this amazing secret guy was Preston all along?”
I offer up a small smile and nod. “It was Preston. All of it. The baseball game, the ziplining, the dinners and walks, and the cuddles on the couch that only ended with a happy ending for me. It was all Preston.”
Her mouth drops open. “So you’ve been dating Preston for months and you two haven’t slept together yet?”
I nod.
Her eyes nearly bug out of her head. “How is that possible?”
/>
I shrug. “He’s been really great—mature even. I think you guys don’t give him enough credit.”
Her eyes roll. “Clearly. I never thought I’d see the day when Preston would get into a relationship—and a sexless relationship at that!”
I laugh. “Well, hopefully it won’t be sexless for too much longer now that everyone knows and is cool with it. He said you gave him shit yesterday over it.”
She laughs. “Maybe a little. I was just tired and hormonal. And surprised. Calvin was actually the one who pointed out that I was overreacting a little.”
“Calvin?” I ask, confused. “And here we were thinking Calvin would be the problem. He told Preston to stay away from me.”
She nods. “I know, and at the time, we both thought it was for the best. But the two of you hit it off so well that the more I thought about it, the more sense it made.”
Someone knocks on the door and we’re instantly overtaken by a team of people carrying bags and cases of God-knows-what in their hands and under their arms.
“Time to get prettied up,” the first man says, quickly getting to work on setting up his equipment.
After the cake is cut, the party goes into full swing. We’re drinking and dancing and the bride and groom seem to be kept pretty busy. Preston grabs my hand and pulls me onto the dance floor. My chest bumps against his and his lips find mine. He kisses me deeply. It’s a slow, building kiss that reaches my toes and makes my stomach muscles tighten with excitement. His hand on the small of my back dips lower and he squeezes my ass.
He slows the kiss and pulls back slightly. “So, I told them. Are you going to hold up your end of the bargain?”
I smile and giggle as I nod my head. “Yes. You think I could date you for months and not want to get you in the sack?”
He smirks. “Come on.” He pulls away but catches my hand in his as he leads me off the dance floor and out the door.
“Where are we going?”
“To find a closet,” he responds.
I laugh. “A closet? You do realize I have a hotel room, right?”
He doesn’t reply as he leads me down the hallway, trying to open every door.
“They’re going to notice we’re gone, Preston.”
The last door he tries opens easily and I’m pulled inside and spun around so my back is pressed against it. In an instant, his mouth is on mine. It feels different now that we’re free to go as far as we want. There’s an urgency about this kiss. It’s like we’re both starved for air and the other person is our lifeline. Even though I don’t want to leave the wedding or have our first time be in a closet, it’s something we both desperately need. His hands start on my hips and they squeeze as they move along my sides, pulling my dress up as they go.
He hooks my left thigh with his hand and yanks it up over his hip. He presses against me and I can feel how turned on he is. This only makes me want him more. His mouth breaks away from mine and he kisses his way down to my neck as his hand makes its way up under my dress. His fingers brush against my core and a gasp escapes. He pushes my panties to the side and runs his fingers between my folds before pushing them up into me. I let out a sigh of relief. My body has craved his touch for so long. I’m so tightly wound that I know it’ll take more than tonight to get him out of my system.
He works his finger in and out of me as his lips come back up to mine. He’s taking it slow and wanting this to last, but I’m in too much of a hurry. I need him now. I reach out and run my hand up his length. He lets out a quiet moan when I wrap my hand around it. Even though the closet is dark and his pants are still on, I can feel how big and hard he is.
He breaks our kiss and removes his hand from me. He lowers my foot to the floor.
“What are you doing?” I pant out.
He wets his lips and cocks his jaw. “You deserve better than this, Riley.”
“Wha . . . ?”
“I’ve waited this long. I can wait a few more hours. I don’t want our first time to be a quickie in a closet. I want you buck naked in a bed where I can praise your glorious body all night long. I want to take my time with you.” He runs his finger along my jaw and kisses my lips softly.
I kiss him back slowly. As let down as I feel, I push my need away. I know he’s right. I don’t want our first time to be rushed. I want it to last forever. But I don’t have much time to think about it, because the door is pushing into me. Someone is trying to enter the closet and it’s shoving me into Preston.
“Why are you pushing me?” he asks, breaking our kiss.
“I’m not. Someone is trying to come in.” Another push.
“Oh.” He takes my hand and steps back so I’m no longer against the door. As soon as I step away, the door swings open, slamming against the wall. A young kid in a uniform is standing on the other side. His face suddenly grows red and he averts his eyes, staring at the wall on the other side of the closet.
“Oh, uh . . . sorry. I just thought something fell and wedged against the door,” he says nervously.
“Don’t worry about it, man. We’re all done anyway,” Preston says, walking out and pulling me along behind him.
We quickly walk down the hall, both of us giggling and laughing at the awkwardness of being caught in a closet.
We rejoin the wedding party and take part in all the normal festivities. Calvin throws the garter and Preston knocks over some old man to catch it. Then he finds out what it means and nearly breaks his neck trying to get rid of it. Piper throws the bouquet and Preston’s mom catches it. There’s already talk about another wedding in the family so his parents can renew their vows. Preston introduces me to his parents and the rest of his family and we dance and eat and drink champagne. The night winds down and finally, the bride and groom are ready to leave.
Preston grabs my hand and pulls me out of the country club to the front parking lot, where Calvin and Piper are already waiting.
“Riley is riding with me to keep me company on the way home. You guys got everything?” Preston asks them as he’s walking to his car in the parking lot. I can tell he’s in a bit of a hurry to end this wedding so we can resume our own special evening.
Everyone piles inside and we make the drive over to the airport. I have Piper’s wedding dress in a big wad on my lap—ruffles and tulle flying in every direction. I promise to hang it up as soon as I can and give her a kiss on the cheek and a hug just as they’re about to enter the airport. The moment Preston and I are alone in the car, I stuff the dress into the back seat and take his hand in mine.
“I’m staying at the Hilton,” I tell him as he pulls out of the parking lot.
He squeezes my hand as he steps on the gas a little bit harder.
“Hey, do you think my car will be okay at the country club all night?”
He lets out a chuckle. “It’s a small town. It’ll be fine,” he promises as he turns into the hotel parking lot.
He parks and we both get out to go inside. I grab Piper’s dress and throw it over my shoulder while holding the train in my arms so it doesn’t drag on the ground. The moment we’re in my room, he starts kicking off his shoes and yanking off his tie and jacket. I hang up Piper’s dress then gently remove mine to hang it up as well. I slip off my shoes and put them back in the box. Given how much I paid for these heels, there’s no way I’m leaving them lying around. When I turn around, I find Preston already stripped down to his boxers and sitting on the foot of the bed, watching me.
“Should I order some room service?” I ask, walking closer. “I can order some champagne and strawberries.”
He reaches out, his arms wrapping around my waist as he pulls me closer to him. His lips land on my rib cage, slowly kissing their way up to my breasts. He unfastens my bra and I allow it to fall down my shoulders and over my arms. When my chest is bare, his hands move to cup my breasts, massaging them as he sucks a hard nipple into his mouth.
My head falls back and my eyes flutter closed as a soft moan escapes my lips.
&
nbsp; “Oh, Preston,” I breathe out.
He pulls away with a smirk. “You ain’t seen nothing yet.” The next thing I know, I’m no longer standing in front of him. Now, I’m lying on the bed with him on top of me. His hips are between my thighs as he kisses me hard and fast. His hands seem to touch every inch of my body all at once, and they cause a tingle to form in my lower belly. It feels like I’ve been set on fire, but instead of pain, there’s intense pleasure that makes me want to explode.
His hips begin moving back and forth against my core as he kisses his way down my neck and chest. He pulls back so he’s sitting on his knees between my legs. His eyes lock on mine as his fingers hook around my panties.
“Are you sure?” he asks, pausing. “Am I the one you want?”
I offer up a shy smile as I nod my head. “I’m sure.”
With those words, he rips them down my legs and tosses them on the floor. His mouth is on me in a second—licking, flicking, and sucking my clit into his mouth. A loud moan escapes as every muscle hardens. He slides two fingers deep inside me, only pushing me closer to the edge as his mouth continues its assault. My muscles tighten and tingle, raising me up higher and higher until my body is flooded with passion and excitement. My release shatters and breaks, falling down on me. I ride out every last wave of my orgasm, and when my body stops shaking and my moans become quieter, he pulls away with a grin.
He leans forward, kissing one hip then moving to the other one. “You’re so fucking sexy, Riley.” He kisses my belly button and I’m prepared for him to kiss his way up my body. To my surprise, he pulls away completely.
“Where you going?” I ask, my voice sounding more like a whine that I’d like.
