“This is why I’m so fearful. Don’t you see what if she were to catch you again? Or me? I’m not as strong as you. Half of that would surely have killed me.” She sobs into her hands. “I- I’m sorry. I’m not a stoic soldier like Zane or a strong Queen like you. I’m just a lowly Mechkan that fell in love with you.”
A knock comes to the outer chamber door.
“Five minutes,” I call to the door as I’m stepping toward Val. “My love, you’re so much stronger than you give yourself credit. My love for the two of you and those two precious boys is exactly what kept me going. So, see you have strength in spades. You have so much love in you that nobody could take it. Even if they try to break your spirit, you remember that love and let it carry you through the day even when you just want to die.” I wipe her tears from her face before kissing her.
She nods from between my palms. “I don’t want to lose you two, not to some war that we could just avoid.”
Zane’s arms wrap around us both. “War is something that has to happen every so often. It weeds out the riff-raff and frankly helps thin the herds of the populace to manageable levels. It’s messy and sucks, but in the end, serves to alleviate disputes. Just make sure you’re on the right side of wrong. We are the lesser of the evils that are done, and that is all we can hope for in the end.”
“I can’t stand here and promise we won’t lose loved ones because we will. Val, I’d love to tell you I was that same girl from all those years ago, but I’ve grown up. I’m not a child. We’re not children. It’s time we take our rightful place. The three of us together as one. Help me unite our worlds. Help me show everyone what we can be. No more being the daughter of Usar. Become a partner as we’re already mated. No more Queens or Kings. No more of me ruling alone. We should be known as one. We are we and not I furthermore. We will not make decisions alone. From here forward, we will discuss any and all, then decide together the best form of action.”
Zane smiles and shakes his head. “You’re talking about a complete reform of our realms, that is going to take a lot of talks. You’re gonna need to show a whole lot more tit.” He wipes his face with his hand. “Maya, this is about the moment when they start to spin the epic playlist reel.” He opens the tall double doors letting myself and Val walk through. It is time we address those that may listen and who have pledged allegiance. It is time to plan a war and get me back my crown so I can smash the fucker once and for all.
